So something interesting to pay attention to but after Texas' loss today Charlie Strong might seriously be out in Austin at end of the year. He's certainly on the hot seat, and 7-5 probably gets him fired. This could be a really bad year to make a change if LSU, Texas, and USC are all looking for guys.

Alternatively, given his track record, does anyone think he'd be a really interesting re-tread option for ND?

I just hope Texas completely tanks so they can win the Tom Herman loto... If not them I'm betting we have to face a Herman led Trojan squad for the next decade.... F. That. Noise.

The Longhorns would be a much more ideal spot for TH.

You think Herman fits what USC has always been? A pro style team. I'm not sure if they are a good fit.

It would work, and tO$U, scUM, SCum, and the HGH lab in Tuscaloosa, would all be rolling with superstar coaches....

No thanks.

I think at this point Trojan would wear a Durex if it meant winning.

ie I don't think change of "Brand" scares Swanny...I think he'll go get Herman if he can. I'd guess he is already working multiple deals heavily through intermediaries. I think between Petersen and Herman, whoever signs first gets the USC job.

The days of disarray in Condom land are nearing an end ... Me thinks.

Oregon might also be in the market for a new coach. Unless we completely collapse I don't think this is a good year to be in the new HC sweepstakes.

Expect people to forget how much better they thought Dantonio was as a hire... Same for Shaw.

I don't see Charlie Strong taking a Coordinator position after Being HC at one of the top tier programs.

I think an intriguing DC option might be Tom Allen at IU. I've followed him since his days at Ben Davis HS and if his defense at IU!?! can continue to progress, he might be able to do wonders with some legit talent. For now I'd put him in the "wait and see" category, but the guy has been successful at every one of his coaching stops.

Can't imagine any currently good head coach coming to ND. Can't recruit crazy-good defensive players (yeah I know we got Jaylon), can't show emotion on the sidelines, has to put up with the fossils in administration. We are damn lucky to have Kelly. He has occasionally given the blue-hairs in the stands something to cheer about. I see all the names being mentioned and can't see one of them agreeing to come here (HC or DC).

Agree with Dantonio for sure. Not sure Shaw could do what he does outside of Stanford though.

Won't get another big time job right away. Would have to take lower level Power 5 job where it may be easy to fail. Better to be successful DC at power school to rebuild the resume.

It's your opinion that it is better but outside of a couple of coaches like Kiffin, most head coaches prefer to stay head coaches. Strong could easily do what Muschamp has done go somewhere for one year but it is much more likely he takes a lower tier HC position IMO. There will be several Power 5 openings this year and I could easily see Strong going to Vandy or such much more likely than him accepting a DC position. But that is my opinion.

I think Herman would make them want they want to be: a top 5-10 football program. And he is from California. So is his wife.

If we are competing with not just LSU but also Texas and USC for Herman's services, there is no doubt we don't get him. John Harbaugh, though...call him...

Huh? John hasn't worked in college since 1997 and makes $7 million a year. Am I missing something?

Does BK entertain leaving to one of these other programs with big money, better facilities, and easier academics if they come calling?

Could we get Paul Chryst? Do we want him?

He went to Wisconsin so I guess he wouldn't even leave them.

He's so average man, he was born and raised in Madison and also played at Madison. That's his home

I don't like the culture that Kelly era seems like it has brought here. With that said with Texas,LSU, maybe USC,Oklahoma possibly looking other place s this might not be the year to replace the head guy. We will be competing with to many schools for "our" guy.

And if Kelly can show change and improve i will gladly say i am wrong!!!!!!

I am going to keep a close eye on Fedora and UNC the rest of the year. Going to make an effort to watch all their games. If they finish 10-2 or better I think he could be a strong candidate. He is young and I think his offense would translate well with the players on our roster.

UNC's defense is obviously a problem but I don't know enough about their situation yet to determine what might be the cause.

Edit: not as young as I thought. Same age as BK. So probably not the right guy.

Is Fedora in any danger or being implicated in the UNC academic scandal?

I'm legitimately curious what you mean by this? Because to my eyes the culture of the football program has far improved from under his predecessor. He may have plateaued, and I agree there are some things he could do better, but he has built a resilient football program here.

It shouldn't matter what his predecessors did. If he's falling short that's unacceptable. You don't stay in an abusive relationship because it's less abusive than previous ones.

His record at UNC is 32-19. BK has a 39-13 record in the same time span and against a much more difficult schedule (avg SOS in that span was 48 and 19 respectively).

Even if UNC has a 10-2 year and ND has a 6-6 year, it's 42-21 vs 45-19 records. Basically, a lateral move imo. Maybe even a downgrade.

Why the love for Fedora?

My understanding is no... Most, if not all of that happened prior to his watch... unless there is something new to it all that I totally missed.

I'm obviously not sold on Fedora which is why I said I was going to watch them going forward. But the question is whether he could do better at ND with ND's resources and prestige than BK. It's not a straight comparison. It's embarrassing that their overall numbers are that close given Fedora coaches UNC.

Like I said though, they are the same age which would pretty much eliminate him in my book anyway.
