I'm sorry but if you guys don't think Swarbrick, the BoT, etc. have been discussing replacing Kelly for weeks now that's incredibly naive. Doesn't mean it will happen, but it's been discussed and they've been making some preliminary moves behind the scenes "just in case" since at least Navy... maybe earlier.

I've always been operating under the assumption Kelly would be back because why wouldn't you? But if it was a done deal that Kelly was coming back you wouldn't get total radio silence from the administration, you would've gotten at least a perfunctory statement from Swarbrick or Jenkins affirming the comments made mid-season and putting this whole thing to bed. It's now Tuesday and we have heard nary a peep. These people aren't stupid and aren't going to leave people twisting in the wind if they have a decision made one way or another. There will be another announcement from someone. And until that happens, nothing is set in stone.

And let's be very clear... you sure as hell don't "only hear it on message boards" when most Notre Dame alums, students, etc. I know don't even use message boards and are all talking about it. The ND newspaper has op-eds about firing Kelly... that's not "message board chatter"... recruits' parents calling people asking about the future of the coaches is not "message board chatter"... the uncertainty is very real, and exists for a reason.

I've never been a Kelly detractor, but I can't take a wasted year full of moaning and second-guessing every decision while the program stalls out.

It's not just to wait until Wednesday, Kelly is out for his in-home visits. Jack allowing the meeting to take place after that leads credence to the thought that Kelly is coming back.

Well, they were ranked pretty high by the AP/Coaches at the start of the year...so it wasn't just the message board. On paper there's no reason this team shouldn't have won 10 games given the talent and how much they achieved despite injuries last season. Given that all of the losses except for one were decided by one score, it's easy to see why people thought that way.

But yes, to play devil's advocate, the board is delusional at times. People here still thought we could/would bring in Herman to replace Kelly, like there weren't bigger fish than ND...not to mention some people still throwing around names like Urban and Saban. We'd have better luck trying to resurrect the corpse of Rockne to coach the team next year.
