Jack said when we were 2-5 that Brian Kelly would be back next year. I assume he meant that and I don't see anything changing that no matter how many people on here post about their dream candidate.

What a S Show this would be if after every loss Jack had to say BK would be back. He said it at 2-5. He knew we weren't going bowling and he said it. I don't think we are going to get a press conference to formally announce it. In Jack's eyes he already did

He may have meant it at the time but 2-5 was a long time ago. Things have not improved since then.

At the very least I hope JS is gauging interest from guys like Ruhl, Chryst, McIntyre, and Fleck.

I'm shocked we haven't heard much information leaked. Is Jack meeting with Kelly today? Have they met? Wasn't Kelly supposed to do a few in home yesterday and did they happen?

I'm not as worried about Kelly getting fired at this point, as I am Kelly leaving and putting us in a spot to find someone else. I don't think we'll hear anything until the NFL season is over (if at all), as that's the route I think he will go if he does leave.

No one wants BK. No school is beating down his door and the pro road has gone cold. BK isnt going anywhere unless Jack grows some sack.

In home with Tey Smith today, I assume the meeting with Swarbrick happened already.

Lots of BK talk - more pertinent seems to be who is on the radar for DC?

Still don't get what the big suspense is all about. Kelly will be ND's HC going forward. End of discussion.

The case against Swarbrick:

(1) Suppose he is going to get rid of Kelly. Because of his decision to extend Kelly, ND will have to unload a mountain of cash. Extending Kelly was a bad decision.

(2) He has let Kelly look around for other jobs, including USC, with no consequences. This is obviously going to be used against us in recruiting, and it is working. Swarbrick clearly wants Kelly more than Kelly wants to be at ND.

(3) He has not been personally responsible for any distinguished coaching hires. (Jim McLaughlin wanted to come here so I don't count him; Swarbrick's other hires have been mediocre.)

(4) He has willingly spread stupid propaganda in defense of ND's lousy football performance ('youngest team since the 70s,' etc).

(5) The Crossroads disgrace.

Number 5. Did something happen?

The fact that they presumably already met and he is out on the road recruiting indicates that he is extremely likely to be back next year.

Is that a faulty assumption?

Mike Frank sold me on this in his podcast:

Hire a young, extremely energetic guy because that's what is needed to build a program (i.e. recruit and coach em up). Then hire him an assistant head coach/consigliere that has been around successful programs and has the experience to deal with many different types of issues.

100% agree.

Damaged goods. Especially after the ranting and raving and blaming his players on TV.

Maybe. Assuming Kelly and the admin are both ready to walk away from each other, then they'll need to negotiate his buyout. While that happens, he can't simply stop recruiting because he doesn't care anymore; that would be a dereliction of duty, which could result in lost leverage during the buyout negotiation.

Nothing. dwshade's post just struck me as textbook "famous last words". How anyone can confidently assert that Kelly will be our HC in 2017 is beyond me.

Yeah, God forbid anyone thinks that they might fire him after going 4-8.

The only talk about a dismissal is coming from message board posters who want Kelly out. The reality is he will be back.

What do you know?

The mods have collectively pooled our annual Christmas bonuses that we get from IE's owners, and rather than buying ourselves all of the things, we are paying a portion of Kelly's buyout.

We're classically conditioned as ND fans to assume the worst, as it usually comes true. Therefore I'm confidently asserting that Kelly is not only coming back for '17, but has negotiated a Bobby Bonilla-esque contract in which he gets paid ~$8 million a year over the next 30 years.
