I have a switch, I'll go that route... those throwback graphics... you can change back and forth at will?? If so, hype.

I wasn't sure if you can switch back and forth once you've started the game since I don't have a Switch, but the Kotaku review says you can switch to 2D mode and back by talking to a Priest (Where you go to usually Save game). There's a caveat though, it seems the game keeps separate save files for each, and if you're switching mid game it makes you start from the beginning of a selected story chapter (Basically anytime a major story arc is completed, not an Act). You can also switch between the Orchestral music and the Synthesized music (Midi version, which is what we PS4 users got) at any time. You guys also get extra quests it looks like.

The 2D sprites will certainly be fun, but make sure you play the game in 3D mode too. It's a beautiful world filled with Akira Toriyama based characters and art. Don't forget that Jade is best girl and she can't be appreciated in 2D form

Speaking of which, apparently the Switch version also has extra outfits for each character and the ability to select which outfit a character is wearing while still allowing you to wear stronger armor underneath. I'm jelly.

Later today in the ACamp household I'll be shredding what's left of my pride begging my wife to get it this weekend... (We just got hit with a massive vet bill so we are trying to tighten up a bit).

I get your dislike for most of the series. But God of War (2018) is a top-10 game for the current generation. You're missing out.

as someone who never played any of the previous GoW games nor any real sci-fi/fantasy games (i typically stuck to madden, ncca, and nba 2k) the GoW 2018 game is amazing.

If you're looking for some amusing exposure to the game before you play it, check out Tim Rogers' break down of the game from Kotaku:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4iTbUGItU0s" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

He's a hardcore Dragon Warrior/Quest fan, so he's probably a little biased, but his reviews are top notch and funny. He also does a review of the Switch version, but it's less about the game itself and more about the differences between the original version and the special edition.

One last thing I didn't touch on. There are a number of extra challenges called "Draconian Quests" you can turn on at the start of the game. These will make the game more difficult if you're looking for a challenge and I think the Switch version has a couple extras included. The first time I played the game I had "Shypox" turned on. That's a relatively harmless challenge as sometimes the main character will try to talk to an NPC and then he gets immediately embarrassed and can't talk, like he crapped his pants or something (It varies, but it's usually some humorous situation). If you try to talk to the NPC again immediately after you're fine. This can occasionally happen in battle too, causing the main character to miss a turn. It's not terribly crippling, and it can lead to some funny interactions.

There are other far more disabling Draconian Quest challenges though, like being unable to purchase items from any shopkeeper, or being unable to wear any armor, or to a lesser extent Super Powered Monsters (They mostly just hit harder). Any one of these can make the game a bit more difficult on it's own, but if you turn them all on at the same time? Brutal! I played DQ11 a 2nd time on PS4 with all Draconian Quests turned on and it kicked my ass. The final boss fight took an hour and a half. I don't recommend doing that, but it is possible if you're looking for an extreme challenge on a later play through. Super Powered Monsters + No Armor is probably the worst combo. The nice thing is once you're in the game if you find you don't enjoy playing with a certain Draconian Quest turned on you can always remove it, but once it's removed you can't reactivate it. To get credit for completing the game with a certain Draconian Quest you have to play through Act 2's final boss with it on.

For the dads with little kids, Kirby Star Allies is a fantastic first video game. My oldest is five and we've been playing one level per night before bed for a couple of months and she had an absolute blast with it. We just finished Story Mode with all switches and rare puzzle pieces (the two main collectibles).

Player 1 controls Kirby and Player 2 controls one of his friends, and only Kirby can die. That makes it extremely forgiving for younger players just by having Dad play as Player 1. Even then, my daughter controlled Kirby the entire time and we finished the story with something like 120 lives.

Don't trust the mixed reviews, it's just a bunch of tryhards crying that the game is too easy.

Oh my goodness I forgot I had this game! I played it myself and I liked it enough for the simple playthrough that it was.

But, I have a nephew who is 6 and I think this game would be perfect for he and I to play together. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just fired up a new play through of BOTW. I think I want to try something crazy like, only upgrade a certain amount of hearts and then use all stamina. Or only use bow and arrow and then sheikah abilities. Has anyone tried anything like that?

Been playing Witcher 3 again,.. trying to get my Aard build back up in my second play through. I remember in my first I had it so that often times I'd just Aard enemies to death, human enemies would literally blow apart. I'm level 102 now and I can't seem to find that again..... I've tried both Sensibilities and Piercing Cold and I can't quite rediscover what I know I had at one point.... maybe the fact that I haven't leveled up to grandmaster armor yet is the problem???

??? Whiskey???

Anyway, I'm making some game purchases for the first time in about a year this week, MLB THE Show obviously when it comes out and I'm torn between Modern Warfare and Dragon Quest. I can't justify all three and I'm thinking Dragon Quest will be there while CoD might be better NOW (to play online with friends and my brother in law and such).

Anyone play both and have opinions??

Max stamina is the way to play. Combined with the climbing speed armor, traversing the map is a pleasure.

Enemies on NG+ are very resistant to Aard. If you want to do a Signs build, I'd go with this one.

They're enchantments from the Runewright that appears in Upper Mill once the Hearts of Stone expansion is installed. They require a sword or chest armor piece with three open slots. For Sujiren's Signs build, he puts Preservation on his steel sword and Eruption on his chest.

I downloaded and played CoD: Warzone last night.

It was my first experience with a FPS in probably three years. I've been curious about the battle royale fad, so I decided CoD would be a good one to try since I played those religiously back in college.

I am not good.

My reflexes for not just shooting, but even spotting and turning to look at enemies is absolute horse poo right now.

I was in the match with a random teammate for like 10 minutes total, fired my gun four times, got one (1) hit on an enemy, died, went to the Gulag, died again in a one-on-one battle to see who got to return to the game, then listened to my teammate tell me how bad I was even though he died before I did.

Damn kids these days.

Well with the upcoming lockdown of our country i'll need some games to play. Guess I will play Dragon Quest, been eyeing it for awhile. I have high hopes for it, as I do almost any JRPG. It'll be my first Dragon Quest game though, so I'm intrigued if I'll end up liking it or if I think it's too dated for me.

I really wish that FFVII had come out on the 3rd like it was planned to. Would have been perfect.

This is incredibly lame btw.... first they make the crossbow and sniping basically useless, then they nerf the best combat sign in NG+?? Freakin commies man....

Stick with it. I am addicted to the game. I don't mind going into hot areas because the Gulag is working out a lot better than I expected when I heard about it. Honestly might be my favorite game mode of all time.

I assume you can make closed party matches so if you want to play with select friends you don't have to deal with a couple random 12 year olds with the mouth's of sailors crashing your game???

I've been playing a lot of Dying Light after taking a looooong hiatus and have really been enjoying it. You start off very weak and remain that way for a long time, but I think I've finally turned the corner where I'm more than a match for most situations, and the game is incredibly fun on a second to second level.

yeah, it's trios. It's way more fun when you have two people you know on your team. Only time you hear someone not on your team is if you kill them which is satisfying.

Lmao I played some fortnite when the moms at my old job said it was big with kids. I figured since I have always been pretty solid at shooters I'd do well.

I was trash. Just humiliating overall. Cant tell you how not good i felt. When APEX came out, I got into that a bit. I was respectable, not great, not bad.

Wait, can you explain this... you can only play in trios?? So you can't set up a 5 v 5 capture the flag for example using only approved players?

Each Aard knockdown sets up a potential insta-kill. They've gotta do something to make Death March and NG+ more challenging, so they opted to nerf that mechanic. Getting to double cast Igni and make everyone explode via Eruption is a pretty solid consolation prize for Sign builds.

My exposure to BRs is almost entirely limited to Twitch, but I never see anyone streaming alternative play modes like 5 v. 5 Capture the Flag. It's all 3-man squads in a last-man-standing FFA.

I'm too cold for Igni...

This COD has traditional multiplayer modes like that. They added this mode Warzone that is 150 battle royale and only trios at the moment.
