Also, rumors starting to pick up that 2017 CoD will be a WWII game...

CoD is getting my loyalties back if true, even though they got beat to the punch by Battlefield.

Battlefield is WW1. I'm going to remain skeptical of CoD. We shall see.

Yeah, I meant simply in terms of going back to "historical" warfare, and not that running-on-walls-trying-to-be-Titanfall shit

About to finish up the main campaign in my 2nd playthrough of Witcher III (New Game +, Death March). Have nearly mastered the game mechanics/ perfected my build.

Have any of you seen anything about For Honor? Currently streaming on Twitch. This game looks incredible.

I'm very interested in "For Honor."

On the surface, it looks great, and it's nice to have a game that is dedicated to getting legitimate and differing styles of sword combat right. Usually, every game with sword combat just comes down to learning the proper hack-and-slash, even when the game supposedly touts "realistic fighting styles." The best I've seen, personally, are the Assassin's Creed games that give you the option of a "Heavy Weapon." Fighting with an axe or a two-handed bastard sword actually look and feel unique... you can't just mash buttons.

Anywho, I worry that FH won't actually follow through on the surface visuals, and it won't be as strategic or important to learn how to properly fight with differing styles as the trailers make it seem.

The visuals themselves look incredible, and it's nice to get a melee-based multi-player finally. I'll pretend every battle is somewhere in Seven Kingdoms while 13-year-olds scream into their mics about whatever is cool now. But I worry that the game may get stale quickly.

Speaking of Battlefield 1, I do have a complaint...from everything I've ever noticed on the History Channel, WW1 was basically bolt action rifles with limited use of other more advanced weaponry. Battlefield 1 does not limit teams to X number of each class. This would vastly improve the WW1 theme I think.

Red Orchestra used this model to prevent games from turning into a mess where everyone is using the best weapons. Really incorporated a "realistic" feel.

Yeah, I meant simply in terms of going back to "historical" warfare, and not that running-on-walls-trying-to-be-Titanfall shit

I feel ya.

will be all the experimental NazI crazy syfi stuff, CoD advance ww2 warfare

That would make for a fun expansion pack.

How is Battlefield??? My wife asked me if I wanted it for Christmas, and I said no, because I don't play all that much anymore, but now, I'm playing Battlefront ALL the time now, lol

been playing BF1 since christmas on ps4 and i love it. I play it every day and have ignored so many other games i bought because of it. When you get a squad together and all communicate on mic's its an amazing experience.

Can you make voice chat only available to friends? Thinking about it from a nine year olds perspective, I'd bet he has real life friends he wants to talk to while he plays online with them.

I'm not sure, but I'd also not trust him to stick to just friends, lol. For being 9, he's awfully damned good at figuring out shit he's not supposed to, lol

Kids at that age normally say awful things about my mother. Not sure I'd hook this kid up.

Haha......my biggest fear of him being Mic'd up!!! He doesn't talk down to me whatsoever, but my wife, who bends over backwards to make sure he's got what he needs in life, he'll walk all over her. Pisses me off to no end how disrespectful he can get. I've got to jump in his ass with both feet from time to time, but I can't always be the bad guy. My wife has learned she's got to be tougher on him at times and not be soo damned scared of hurting his feelings.

Guess nobody else got Nioh :(. It's fucking amazing though. Like they put Dark Souls, Ninja Gaiden and Diablo in a blender.

FWIW, that doesn't seem to be an issue from the streams I've watched. Popular streamers, who get early access to every game under the sun and tend to be very critical as a result, have been raving about it's mechanical depth. With all the different classes, directional parries, guard breaks, dodges, rolls, etc., it's closer to a technical fighting game than a hack n' slash.

The visuals themselves look incredible, and it's nice to get a melee-based multi-player finally. I'll pretend every battle is somewhere in Seven Kingdoms while 13-year-olds scream into their mics about whatever is cool now. But I worry that the game may get stale quickly.

Maybe. But being able to play 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3, or in giant battles that seem like a Dark Souls/ MOBA mashup, I'm not very worried about that either.

Don't have the scratch atm but can't wait. Watched ENB play the first two hours last night and will definitely be getting it.

the combat in For Honor looks very rock paper scissors to me, very shallow. Basically you can attack left, right, high or low and your opponent can parry and counter in each of these directions. Seems like that would get so stale very fast. The Knights vs Vikings vs Samurai is kinda dumb to me too, better if it was a more historically accurate game

Compared to what? It obviously doesn't have the tactical depth of something like Street Fighter V, but it's not trying to be that. It looks to be a mix between Dark Souls PvP and MOBA-style team fights, but with a higher skill factor.

No argument there, though it seems unavoidable these days. Every new release is required to give you the option of battling as a hawt female warrior, lest the basement dwelling neckbeards that obsess over these games be reminded of their inferiority.

My issue is that it appears to be pretty similar to Dark Souls PvP but Dark Souls isn't worth it as a PvP game alone.

Agreed, but For Honor looks to have a more complex combat system. I think 3rd person melee combat (like in the Witcher 3, Dark Souls, etc.) has a lot going for it, and I'm cautiously optimistic that For Honor can pull it off in a PvP-focused game.

You know, I've given it some thought, and it's weird to say this considering that I try to stay away from hyperbole when it comes to video games but I sincerely think that a case could be made that the Witcher 3 is the best game ever made.

Co-sign. Without hesitation. Can't think of another title that even comes close.

Lots of similarities between TW3 and RDR. Incredible story, high quality voice acting, a huge/ open/ meticulously created world, and well-designed 3rd person combat mechanics that still don't feel stale after hundreds of hours of gameplay.
