Also, I've never been a big fan of "Coach Your Kid."
When I played peewee football and high school football, the coaches didn't change. You got older, you moved on to new coaches that had been in place.
Now, having watched my brother and his classmates grow up from 1st grade all the way to freshmen ball, there is this pervasive occurrence where the coaches change every year and every time a group moves up, and it's always so one of the dads can coach their kid.
It ruins the experience and development for some kids, and it's a shame. Thankfully it stopped with varsity ball, but I was still extremely disappointed when my alma mater allowed a group of parents to take over the freshman team when my brother's class arrived.
Little Johnny was a stud... when he was in third grade. So, Little Johnny's dad fought to become head coach for the 3rd grade team to make sure Little Johnny was the focus of the team. From there, a core group of family-friends formed, and the kids in those families were the ones that were the "stars"... when in truth, some of those kids are no longer "stars," while some kids that used to ride the bench have grown up and turned into actual high school football players.
It just kills me that 5/6 years of development were ruined for some of these kids that are making names for themselves on the varsity squad, just because Little Johnny's dad got put in charge when he had no business coaching other peoples' kids.
