When a manufacturing company gives a list of local service companies that are approved to work on their equipment. But the service techs don't know what the hell they are doing. The default answer is always "You're not using it right. Here's a bill."

The guy on my Facebook feed that plays "competitive" slow-pitch softball, and posts about it every day.

The slow-motion videos of slow-pitch batting practice at the batting cages especially grind my gears.

I know I don't need to watch it. I know I can unfollow or unfriend him. But I love to hate.

BRO. It's slow-pitch softball at a facility sponsored by the local landfill. You're not an Olympic athlete.

Also, the guy that is shouting thinly-veiled racism on social media about Colin Kapernick and how he needs to respect the flag, and how the rest of the un-oppressed black athletes and the white lesbian athlete also need to respect the flag of this great country...

And also continuously posts about how he's preparing to battle the government, because the government is evil and how he will have his guns removed from his cold, dead hands when the government and the people with the flags come for them.

Ha, now I must share:

My father was in a local legendary slow pitch team in the 80s (I still have people stop me who recognize me, and then talk to me about how good that team was,... I'm totally serious)... He was the pitcher and could loft the ball 30 feet in the air and have that thing land on the plate for a strike (different type of strike zone for slow pitch back then) 9/10... I remember traveling all over so cal for major tournaments and my father's team won quite a few, when he passed in Feb we found a shit ton of trophies (remember in the early to mid 80s you only got them for winning) stored in the garage.

Great memories.

I do think the rules for competitive slow pitch has changed though now, I don't think you can loft the ball over the head of the batter or some such... that totally changed everything. Just in case anyone here has the same experience in So Cal from that era, the name of the team was 'Stranded'...

Computer issues when you are giving a presentation to a group of investors who total over 500 million dollars.

At least it's enough to buy a new computer.

Dads who are so into peewee football that all they can do is talk about their kids team play and show videos on their phone. Like it was a big time game or something. And know stats on the game like the kids are fantasy football as in # carries, ypg, etc.

When I coached Pop Warner football I would have been thrilled to involvement from any dad. My dad coached me so after he died I coached my little brother. I coached him in baseball as an 8 year old and in football as a 12 year. I was a freshman in college commuting an hour each way 5 days a weeks. After three days of practice when I said I would show up 5 days a week no dad show up for practice OR games. Four years later, I was a young graduate engineer working for a consulting firm in the next town. Again I committed to showing up for practices every night. Again the dads dropped like Bill for a bimbo. This time they showed up on game day and demanded their kid play more and at a different position. Both times our teams went undefeated. The kids were excited while the weekday no show dads complained on the sideline while I'm calling plays for both offense and defense. I'll take the dad that participates with the phone videos over those that were too busy for their kid except to show up to whine over their expectations.

Also true with baseball. I was playing competitive slow pitch kickball against a team with teenagers on it (long story short it was co-ed, but teenagers could take the place of women) and one of the fathers was ridiculous. Yelling at the kids on base, telling them "YOU CAN NOT GET OUT. YOU BETTER NOT GET OUT." Crazy parents. I already know I will be the parent sitting by themselves when watching my boys play sports, so I don't get riled up from other parents.

On sports parents:

My father was also the president of our local Little League... I was one of the star players... I went two years (the two years during which the 11-12 year olds compete in the Little League WS tourney) without committing a single error and had a batting average over .500 (yes, over .500) one year,... yet when I made city All Star team to play in that tourney a number of parents of kids who didn't make the team had a shit fit bc the Pres' son made it. The following year was a nightmare. One of the worst moments was before a big game I had the parent of the opposing pitcher corner me by myself (he's like 30, I'm 12 mind you) and tell me his son was gonna knock my stupid f'in head off today... and,... yeah, first time up... fastball to the head. This stuff went on like all year... and my dad was kind of powerless because anything he could potentially do would have come off as favoritism.

little league dads and soccer moms can be absolutely sub human.

"Weekday no show dads"? Wat?

This is what's wrong with youth sports nowadays. Coaches acting like parents that don't show up to every practice somehow don't care about their kids. It's 8 year old football, dude. Maybe they have more important things like workimg to put food on the table or watching their other kids than to hawk the sidelines of a pee wee football practice and going over X's and O's with their coach. Guess what? Those parents didn't give a shit that you went undefeated. They were simply wanting their kids to learn the game and have fun. People have turned youth sports into a way to live vicariously through little kids and belittle other parents.

I applaud you for being so diligent with your little brother. I'm sure it meant the world to him. But save us the looking down your nose at any parent that doesn't choose to focus their entire life on the pee wee practices of their 8 year old.

Sports parents suck for real.

My little brother is currently playing high school football at my alma mater. It's been a bit since I played/graduated, but many of the same families are there with their own younger generations now on the team. And I've been back to games since my time at school, but I usually stood on the sidelines with other alumni.

But, with my brother on the varsity team now, I've been in the crowd with the common folk this year... And I am legitimately embarrassed at like 50% of the parents and others that are in the stands, and sometimes the percentage is higher than that.

People are out of control.

Completely agree. I'm incredibly close with my parents -- and wasn't really offended if they didn't show up to stuff. There were a bunch of HS basketball games that they didn't make it to. It's not indicative of how much they care or whatever.

Also, I've never been a big fan of "Coach Your Kid."

When I played peewee football and high school football, the coaches didn't change. You got older, you moved on to new coaches that had been in place.

Now, having watched my brother and his classmates grow up from 1st grade all the way to freshmen ball, there is this pervasive occurrence where the coaches change every year and every time a group moves up, and it's always so one of the dads can coach their kid.

It ruins the experience and development for some kids, and it's a shame. Thankfully it stopped with varsity ball, but I was still extremely disappointed when my alma mater allowed a group of parents to take over the freshman team when my brother's class arrived.

Little Johnny was a stud... when he was in third grade. So, Little Johnny's dad fought to become head coach for the 3rd grade team to make sure Little Johnny was the focus of the team. From there, a core group of family-friends formed, and the kids in those families were the ones that were the "stars"... when in truth, some of those kids are no longer "stars," while some kids that used to ride the bench have grown up and turned into actual high school football players.

It just kills me that 5/6 years of development were ruined for some of these kids that are making names for themselves on the varsity squad, just because Little Johnny's dad got put in charge when he had no business coaching other peoples' kids.

You might be missing the point. If a parent commits to assisting then doesn't show up, then BGIF has a right to vent. If the parents have other obligations, don't coach or at least let your coach know that it will be on a limited basis. Coach can then decide if he needs you.

My friends from highschool vape WAY more than they used to smoke. It's disconcerting. And gross... even though it smells like mangoes.

Driving on rural roads and the car in front of you slows all the way down to 5 mph while their turtle of a car makes a left. If there is no one coming from the left lane, move your ass over.

When professional athletes, superstars particularly, complain they don't get the calls they deserve. Shouldn't a penalty be a penalty or a foul be a foul. Why should they change depending on the player?

In relation to this, I hate it when announcers make the comment that a ref can't make a foul or penalty call in the last seconds of a game and "determine the outcome". Do the rules of the game suddenly change in the last few seconds? Maybe the player shouldn't foul/commit the penalty and cost their team the game.

When you make a reservation with UHAUL and they call you to tell you your truck won't be available at the time you reserved it and they ask you if it would be okay to pick it up six hours later than you had planned at a lot ten miles out of your way. No it would not be okay to go ten miles and six hours out of my way, that's why I made a fucking reservation.

I worked at Budget rent a car/truck while working through college and you'd be shocked how paper thin the average lot's room for error is... they reserve exactly what they have coming in, especially with the trucks. If one truck breaks, blows a tire or is due for an engine service when it arrives,.. oops... have to adjust and or cancel a reservation... it always drove me crazy.

People who make a restaurant reservation and come breezing in 20-30 minutes late without calling to let the restaurant know. But those same people will blow a gasket if they made a 7:00 reservation and they aren't sitting down by 7:01.
