When I say ma'am or sir to a younger person and they take offense to. I say out of respect and habit, not because I think you're old.

Would have been better if Sergio won on the 72nd. A little anti-climatic winning in the playoff after Rose's tee shot (IMO). All in all, I'm happy for Sergio and I'm someone who rooted against him every tournament (including this one).

Agreed. I posted that before the playoff.

Grinds me bc I missed it, happy that it happned:

Getting talked out of watching the last third of the Angels game by friends bc 'they're getting killed, let's just go,' (down 8-1)... then getting home to find the Angels pulled off some amazing ninth inning comeback to win 10-9....

Happened to me a few years ago at a Reds game, but we were actually at the ballpark and left. Walking to the car after there are two outs in the 8th inning of a huge deficit, with nobody on base, and we hear the homerun fireworks go off twice before we're even in the car. Turn the game on the radio leaving the parking garage, and listen to the game-winning call before we're home. Missed a huge comeback.

Bunch of losers, leaving early.

Could be worse. My parents left my house halfway through the third quarter of the Super Bowl. Driving through rural northeastern Connecticut, they didn't even have a steady radio signal for the comeback.

Airlines have overbooked for ages and still do. Their reasoning for doing this is stupid. How can an airline overbook a flight then "volunteer" passengers to get off the flight so they can put their own staff on the flight? I hope this guy gets a couple of million from these idiots.

Agreed, but it's technically totally legal. It's in the fine print when you buy your ticket.

I honestly feel bad for the guys who had to take him off the plane too. They look like total jerks as well, when they're just doing the job they have to. Totally wrong way to do this though.

Fo sho.

I get it, that they're just following their policy that everyone agrees to when they purchase.

But if that's your policy in action, then you need a new policy.

What grinds my gears, businesses that have ultra left wing social policies.

We just got an email bragging that Goliath Regional Bank's daddy, Goliath Global Bank is selling its chunk of financing for an oil pipeline.

It'd be chill if they said "it's too controversial" or some other BS. But they are being tools about it. Typical lefty bullshit.

Fine, but then don't complain when they gouge people when they need to reschedule their flight for whatever reason. Consumers can't have it both ways.........

No, the reasoning is totally legit. People miss flights all the time. Booking a few extra seats so that the plane is full even if people don't show up is perfectly fine.

Not saying that THIS particular situation was handled properly though. The correct way to do it is to keep upping the incentive for volunteers until someone finally takes it. Delta would routinely overbook connecting flights from Detroit to South Bend during Notre Dame breaks and I flew for free a bunch of times because I'd always volunteer for the bump.

overly broad simplification IMO. No show rates vary -- not public info, but 10% seems to be the norm -- and the number of oversold seats have declined quite a bit over the last 15 years with software advancements. Depending on the type of customer who no shows, the company may get only a fraction of the revenue expected for the open seat or maybe nothing at all. In such a price sensitive environment, where many consumers only have loyalty to price, airlines are being incentivized by consumers to do exactly this. Airlines across the world average a 4% profit margin and generally can't afford to have empty seats.

Not sure about the specific scenario, but I believe the law is that the company must offer compensation for involuntary bumps, but it is capped a 4X the fare -- fare, not total price paid with taxes. So the airline will only increase to that point.

As Wiz said above, it doesn't need to be an either/or.

Their policy should be "keep upping the voucher like every other airline does"

True story. I took a voucher for $1,400 and a hotel a few months ago. Was pretty pumped because it also gave me a chance to catch up with an old bud that moved to the city I was stuck in. I made plans and they ended up not needing the seat and put me on the plane. It was a bummer. No monies. No hanging out with buds.

Carry on.

Legit per the airlines. I used to work for American Trans Air. People miss flights, but the rate is very low and if the cancellation isn't given with enough notice, the airline doesn't give a refund, so the seat is still paid for. Fill rates to make a flight profitable is pretty high (it all depends on the size of the jet), but one or two missed flights even with a refund won't cause a flight to occur a loss.

Airlines can legally pull anyone off a flight even for no reason, but this situation definitely wasn't handled properly. Not sure how they determined this guy should get pulled. "customers to pull.

In a related story, yesterday on the news they interviewed a lady who got $11K out of Delta over the course of a couple of days. They kept asking for volunteers and she kept volunteering her family.

My dad used to fly my little brother to Florida every few months. He voluntarily took bumps on two return trips.

With the second bump, they heard that he had volunteered before, so they didn't just give him a voucher... they gave him car service to Miami, and put him up in a top-floor, ocean-view VIP suite in some hotel, and then flew him back from Miami the next day.

Sometimes it pays more than just a voucher to be flexible lol.

Ha, I volunteered to start flying with my brother, but he always said "no, don't worry about it."

He just wanted to keep trying to reap the benefits of upgrade-via-delay.

Then my bro's mom moved to Alabama, and flights turned into 14-hour day trips to Birmingham that he GLADLY recruited me for.
