Probably has more to do with the admissions scandal, but damn if that isn't convenient for football.

hmmm, def don't like seeing that. Most likely Helton's last season for sure now and they may possibly throw the bank and Meyer

I think Helton was gone one way or another at year's end, and the only variable is if he was given the boot during the season.

So this is medium news, IMO, because it doesn't change Helton's trajectory.

It’s early & I don’t think SC runs the table but what if they can win the P12 & a Rose Bowl? I just think it’s a fool’s errand to assume he’s gone no matter what b/c they could finish 10-2 or 11-1. Not saying it’s likely but stranger things have happened & it would seem about right since EVERYONE in the media is counting the days before he’s relieved of his duties.

USC president Carol Folt has been systematically cleaning house of upper management - a new provost, a new vice president of student affairs and created the position of vice president of human resources. Now she has gotten around to athletics. Lots of complaints to Folt with calls and emails about Swann. The College Admissions Scandal and the pending NCAA investigation into the basketball program sealed Swann's fate. Dave Roberts, who had been serving as a special adviser to USC President Carol L. Folt, will serve as the interim A.D. Roberts is USC's vice president of athletics compliance and serves as the NCAA’s vice chair of the committee on infractions. USC hired Folt from UNC, where she inherited their academic scandal and brought that to a conclusion.

During her tenure, associate athletic director Donna Heinel was recognized as one of the highest ranking members of the athletic department, working alongside Athletic Director Lynn Swan and COO Steve Lopes. Heinel is alleged to have received more than $1.3 million in bribe money between 2014 and 2018 in the College Admissions Scandal and was fired. Folt passed over Steve Lopes to serve as interim AD and lead the search for the new AD.

The new AD will not be an insider nor a former football player with no AD experience. They will want their own HC.

USC is under a lot of scrutiny right now on the athletic and academia side. I have to believe the new president will tread somewhat lightly. If Swann proposes Meyer he may not pass the interview given his history.

Odd timing?

Not if you're sending a statement, particularly if you want to put athletics on notice. She already made some big changes on the academic side. Smart decision to do those first. Now critics can't say she only cares about academics.

With the amount of money in athletics, look for the new AD to have more of a business background. The good ol' days of AD's being ex-jocks is pretty much over. The new AD may be a former athlete, but I think they will have a lot of experience in business at a fairly high level.

Dave Dombrowski is now available.

After looking decent, BYU beats them in OT. Helton watch back on? Urban have his resume ready to mail?

I honestly don't even think Urban would want to take on that dumpster fire.

Check out their classes over the past 4-5 years. It's a goldmine. I hate USC but they always pull talent. If Dabo went there with his coordinators, he'd win the PAC-12 every year and always be in the playoffs.

I would be surprised if Urban winds up at USC. Given the smoke around his last two jobs can't see the president at USC taking
that on. Suspect the new AD will reveal a lot. Much to every ones glee I think Helton is there thru 2020

I'd argue that Dabo is already getting great talent and in the playoffs every year at Clemson, so no reason to go to USC lol. The ACC isn't exactly known for their football outside of Clemson either. USC averages better classes, but the two aren't far apart. Seems like a lateral move at best.

99% sure he wasn’t saying anything about Dabo going to USC. Just showing how much talent they have and if they had a good coach they’d be rolling through the PAC-12. I also agree. There are quite a few big time talents at QB that come through each class from California and usually there are multiple that dream of going to USC. RB is similar although they haven’t been getting them (Kendall Milton would normally be going to USC if they were a competent program). WR is probably the most talented crop of players that come out of a state each cycle and USC usually gets their pick of the litter. The biggest issue with recruiting is that there aren’t many top rated OL/DL recruits in the last few cycles for whatever reason out west and it makes the top guys super competitive recruitments. The bottom line is USC gets top tier skill position players in every cycle, they get the best QB out west almost every year, and some amazing talent on defense and they still stink. A semi-competent coach with a solid plan, good recruiting efforts, and some sort of emphasis on getting WR’s the ball would do wonders with that program. It is a sleeping giant!

This is true, but with all the talent USC has, and how down the PAC 12 has been, a monkey with an ounce of coaching talent could be very successful at USC right now. They have the most talent in the conference, Stanford is down, and only Washington in the other division has a real pulse. Utah is pretty good too, but doesn't have an ounce of the talent.

A coach that is willing to put a little effort plus the kids that go there anywhere's just need a coach that is competent.

Agree with the first part, not the second. New USC president's mission appears to be to clean things up after various ethical lapses. She will look like quite the hypocrite if she hires Mister Ethical Lapse himself. But if Helton doesn't win this year, they ain't keeping him. In fact, if he loses to Utah and Wash he won't even make the trip to ND.

Or they'll see how Meyer consistently brought the best grad rates and academics in all of college football to a place like Florida and be sold on the spot....

Few people realize that the issues at USC right now are so big right now that football is on the back burner. They have major, systemic issues that are going to cost them insane amounts of $$ to ultimately deal with.

I expect them to target:
1) An NFL cast off with an untarnished record and hope for Pete Carroll 2.0
2) A "good" college coach that does more with less. Matt Campbell, Bronco Mendenhall, Brohm, etc.

If they went for someone like Meyer there might be a revolt from some corners of USC... other parts would be all-in. I don't really see it happening, personally. Most USC donors and alums care a lot more about cleaning up the image of the university and prestige-whoring than they do about football Ws.
