Deadspin HATES Notre Dame and Duke. Notre Dame is public enemy 1A, Duke is public enemy 1B. They readily acknowledge that. It all stems from their anti-establishment "progressive" shtick. I love the site, with the exception of their baseless ND hate. They are famous for such things as refusing to rank Notre Dame in their college football poll last year and calling anti-Catholic bigoted remarks from Gordon Gee "downright funny."
They did get their just deserts on the whole Lennay Kekua story though. They devote about half their energy to ragging on other media outlets for poor journalism, yet decided to publish a bunch of unfounded/barely sourced/easily disprovable extraneous bullsh*t in the Kekua story to paint Manti as the mastermind. They then tried to defend this crap to the death as the tide turned on them... and looked more and more desperate/foolish/incompetent as time went on. They've never officially retracted any of their crap... because it's all about saving face... but you'll now notice that they acknowledge/allude to the fact that he "likely" wasn't behind it when they talk about it.
From the blowback, they've slowly started changing the way they operate. A great example is Matt Hinton being contracted to do their poll for this year and write college football pieces for them.
