Deadspin HATES Notre Dame and Duke. Notre Dame is public enemy 1A, Duke is public enemy 1B. They readily acknowledge that. It all stems from their anti-establishment "progressive" shtick. I love the site, with the exception of their baseless ND hate. They are famous for such things as refusing to rank Notre Dame in their college football poll last year and calling anti-Catholic bigoted remarks from Gordon Gee "downright funny."

They did get their just deserts on the whole Lennay Kekua story though. They devote about half their energy to ragging on other media outlets for poor journalism, yet decided to publish a bunch of unfounded/barely sourced/easily disprovable extraneous bullsh*t in the Kekua story to paint Manti as the mastermind. They then tried to defend this crap to the death as the tide turned on them... and looked more and more desperate/foolish/incompetent as time went on. They've never officially retracted any of their crap... because it's all about saving face... but you'll now notice that they acknowledge/allude to the fact that he "likely" wasn't behind it when they talk about it.

From the blowback, they've slowly started changing the way they operate. A great example is Matt Hinton being contracted to do their poll for this year and write college football pieces for them.

Did anyone else just see the guy on Gameday absolutely rip into Lane Kiffin?? I was shocked how direct it was.

They only took 56 players to Arizona state on Saturday. Kiffin did such a horrific job managing this roster. What is the number of schollies they have?

A coach from University of Houston tweeted that he saw Jack Del Rio at the LAX airport last night after the Jags game. Apparently swears it's 100% accurate and it was no question him.

He also, allegedly, saw Elvis. Frankly its a good hire, for us. Jack won't have the swag that Sneaky Pete had.

I heard somewhere that Del Rio is interested, but said under no circumstances would he bail on the Broncos before their season is wrapped up (Including Super Bowl, if they make it that far).

I was really hoping that Kiffin would have managed about 9 wins this season and USC would retain him a bit longer. While part of me was happy, I'm mostly sad that USC could emerge as a real power again. Haden was smart to axe Kiffin now as Texas will be looking for a new coach sometime during or after this season as well. By axing Kiffin now they've ensured they have a head start in picking their candidate before Texa$ gets rolling.

Pat Haden just denied on colin cowerd that he met with Jack Del Rio or anyone else for that matter.

Did pat Haden just give Lane another vote of confidence? You can't trust anything he says between now and the day he announces a hire.

Pretty simply it's going to be Del Rio or Sark. I've heard strong rumors for both. Franklin and Fitzgerald and others are dark horses but I don't think they're currently on the front burner.

FWIW, Colin said he won't reveal why, but he doubts it will be Del Rio. He seems pretty well connected to the USC program for an analyst.

My best friend from high school is the president of the USC alumni club in San Francisco. From sources I've heard it's already a done deal for Sark. But others STRONGLY imply Del Rio, and as we all know these coaching search things are filled with all kinds of ridiculous rumors and fallacies. If I had to bet I'd bet on Sark, but with so much time left in the season who knows what happens.

I'm praying for Del Rio, but it will likely be Sark. I just hope he doesn't bring Tosh Lupoi with him.

Curtis Conway just said on the Colin Cowherd show that he would love Mike Riley. It would be harder to hate USC.

Watch Chip Kelly go 5-11 and takes the USC job.

Can't this year really. Chip has an 18-month show-cause from the NCAA that makes him basically unhireable until the start of the 2015 calendar year.

What's going to be interesting is what happens after NEXT season if Chip Kelly continues to lose in Philly and wants to pull a Petrino/Saban. ND could conceivably be in the market for him then too........ but there would be a LOT of dominos that would need to fall for that.

USC - hire Tressel today, have him sit his 5 games this year, start fresh next year?

Apparently Kelly wouldn't even be considered by Haden anyways because of his previous NCAA troubles. Haden wants someone that hasn't been in any kind of trouble before.

Hmmmm, interesting theory. If they're throwing in the towel on the season, and Tressel has to sit 5 games...that would be a sneaky way to get him back in the game since no other program is probably going to touch him during that 5 year show clause. I don't think USC would do it personally. Not that you need a great recruiter at USC, but Tressel is a guy that does better picking up local talent mostly. He was known for locking down all the good talent in Ohio and not a whole lot outside it. Tressel doesn't run a sexy offensive program either. I'm not sure USC alums would like "Tressel ball."
