I was as frustrated tonight as I've ever been as a ND fan (which is saying a lot), because it wasn't like we came out flat and got punched in the mouth. We were a yard from putting this thing to bed by 8:30 on the east coast and then it all fell apart. Just felt like the ultimate "same old ND" game. Except it wasn't, this group battled back AGAIN and turned in one fun-to-watch second half. It's too bad that the comeback against Clemson fell just short, or we'd really be in excellent position right now. But this is an easy group to root for because they fight their asses off until there are zeroes on the clock, even if they don't always play mistake-free football for the whole sixty minutes.

When SC decided to punt on the 4th and an inch at mid field I felt that might swing it.... And it sure as hell did.

Also shoutout to Devin Butler who has made a couple of big special teams plays the last two weeks. Big fumble recovery last week and tonight he pretty much sealed it by downing the punt at the 1.

We may have given up 590 yards but 158 were on two pass plays and the 55 on the last drive was more of us just playing a pass prevent to not give up the big play and a score. We held them to 377 yards outside of this and held Kessler to a 55.7 QB rating. Miserable 2nd quarter where most of these yards happened and the defense did pretty good the rest of the game.

And if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. Doesn't matter how SC got their yards - the D needs to do better. Period.

I'd be happy if we could play a defensive game that was just an overall "quite good" performance from start to finish. Instead we alternate between the steel curtain and junior pee-wee.

I'm very pleased with the offense last night. Kizer seemed uncomfortable when he had so much time because the defense was dropping 7 or 8, but he didn't try to force anything. He held the ball a bit too long but that's something that he'll get more comfortable with after more and more live reps.

I still hate the play calling. Wholly inappropriate for the down and distance at times.

Yeah, unfortunately this is what happens when you're so susceptible to big plays.

We averaged 7.9 yards per play.
We put up 476 yards and 41 points.
As a TEAM, we averaged 6.1 yards per carry on 35 carries and 16.4 yards per completion. The play calling was not perfect, but there was no reason to "hate" it.

1. We gave them the momentum with the fumble poor job by hunter.

2. Special teams other then the kick offs were very efficient. sanders is electric. Great block by Brown.

3. Kiser has the poise of the best but his play doesn't come close to matching it. He played so awesome in the first quarter and on the read option. But for someone that smart he took to many sacks.

4. I don't want to hear a single word about any other top 25 teams defense. Our defense is awful. If I had a dollar for every missed tackle I could take my I could take my wife to a nice restaurant for dinner. BVG has to go. He needs to leave.

5. Joe Schmidt is just as bad as BVG.

6.Our running game was very effective so we away from it to much. CJ & Adams should have had more carries. Man the were running the ball.

7. All the wide receivers had a good game. Brown with the big catches early. Fuller was burning their best. CRob with the great extended catch in the end zone.

8. The TEs were blocking their asses off. Nice catch bye Jones on the side line.

I agree with kmoose it was the timinf of some of the play calling. A jet sweep inside the 5 is dumb. You have cj who is strong as an ox run the ball up the muddle.

Even though the offense only scored 34 points and started on lime the 41 one from the put return from sanders.

The blocked punt was the craziest and loudest I have ever heard the stadium. It was absolute pandemonium.

Sheldon Day even if he didn't finish a ton of plays last night was so damn disruptive on the line every single play. Too bad our QB contain couldn't reward that disruptiveness.

I really haven't seen a wide receiver better than Fuller.

Kizer= mobile Tommy Rees. Difference is this offense is loaded at every single damn position.

Assuming that you mean at ND?

Michael Floyd
Maurice Stovall
Jeff Samardzija

all come to mind. I realize that they did not light it up like Fuller is doing. But I think we can all agree that Fuller is not a complete receiver; he catches the ball with his body too much, and I think that is going to hurt his draft grade if he doesn't improve it. But those three that I mentioned all were complete receivers: They had great hands, enough speed to break a big one, and they blocked really well. I'm not sure I have seen as productive a receiver as Will Fuller, but I think I have seen guys that were just as good.

I meant this year in college football; I should have clarified. I'm really struggling to name better wide receivers. JuJu last night may be one of them. The other two that come to mind for me are Doctson at TCU and Coleman at Baylor, but those systems are so pass happy that Fuller would put up the same or better numbers.

Despite not being a complete receiver, I would take him over anyone else in college football this year.

What a game! I am so proud of this team! Kelly is now 4-2 against our biggest rival, which is an incredible accomplishment in itself, and has us in the discussion to make the playoffs still, even after that heartbreaking loss to Clemson. Feeling really good about where we are at the moment!

I cannot believe how close this game was to being a complete thrashing though. That fumble on the goal line was crazy, but even with USC comeback, for us to win by 10 and dominate the 4th qtr like that was just unbelievable for me. Again, just so happy about the way the team played!

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like ND beating southern cal returns the universe to a sense of cosmic order.

I told my wife after the game that ND beating SC does something to my soul that nothing else in life outside of my love for her, our family and God can do... It's the only thing that gives my that feeling outside of family... She totally understood, got to love her!!

Thoughts from someone at the game.

1. The O-line did great with pass protection, but DK needs to learn to throw the all away. The sacks looked like a result of solid secondary coverage.
2. Secondary needs to stay with their guys a split second longer to eliminate trick plays.
3. Not sure why we kept trying the jet sweep because their speed shut it down. CJ's runs outside started inside then he bounced it outside.
4. CJ and WF''s speed is a big surprise for the other teams.
5. Hoping the second half was a coming out party for KVR. He took away JuJu in the second half.
6. Glad to see CR make that catch. Crowd was moaning when they saw him come in.
7. Need for the D to figure out the other teams offense before halftime.
8. Team showed again they will play until the end.
9. Great win and four teams in front of us went down.
10. F@ck Michigan and F@ck USC.

Glass half full. Can also look for the positives. Not everything has to be negative.

I think our great start to the game may have caused a little over confidence in the team. I would have loved to be in the locker room at half time.

Baylor's Coleman is the best WR in CFB, hands down.

If our players tackled like men this game would have been a blow out. I felt like bvg actually called a pretty good game. I only recall a handful of plays we got out schemed formationally. Which brings me to point 3.

Can we never call another D play the has Romeo covering a slot WR in man to man.

Finally, there at the end we went 3 deep with Joe S. as deep middle safety (before Schumate hurt himself even). Why wouldn't we go Max, Schu, Farley at that point if BVG wants 3 deep S?

I'm really excited to see the ICON video this week. Should shed some light on that. Overall though, I am just thrilled! Got the W with all those recruits in town! Should be a fun finish this year!

i hear the argument that we should have put the nail in the coffin and embarrassed the trojans, especially when we had the chance to go up 28-10 before the tori hunter jr fumble.

But, I also saw one of the most talented offenses on the other sideline. big plays can and will happen especially playing against top talent.

Not giving anyone a pass, i really wanted a blow out too, but we held them to just 7 second half points. I was very impressed with how our team responded.

I am a big fan of Joe the person, but like everyone else on here, getting very tired of the "Joe has to be on the field" mentality of our coaches. Way too many missed tackles last night. Most of the complaining about BVG's defense may go away if we have a MLB that can tackle. We had them stopped on both of their first quarter scoring drives had Joe made the tackle on third down instead of arm tackling and them breaking through for a first down.
