I think kids are way open to this and as they age they lose this ability. I believe its the Awe and Wonder of a child and obviously as you age the Awe and Wonder turn to reality. Most people lose the ability.
My son was 4 or 5 when my wife and mother in law took him to the cemetary to visit a relative. After being there a few minutes my wife noticed my son standing at a rather elaborate gravesite, almost in a trance. The short of that is he explained to my wife that there was a gate there with stone pillars with writing that was glowing white. A man or presence beyond the gate in the bright light was beckoning him to come into the gate.
Another incident my wife was watching him play in his room, standing at the door way. He didn't notice her there, or she though he didn't. He then told my wife, without looking at her, that she could come in. His friends were watching her. She asked what friends and his reply was that they were all standing behind her.
We've had many encounters in our house. One involved, as noted above, a little one running from one bedroom across the hall to another. Things tossed from closed cupboards. Stuff being shoved off tables or counters. Messing with us in our sleep. Anything thats been too naughty or disruptive has been asked to leave, most have.
