Thus beginneth the NDNation meltdown...

"Informational boards "

These fools are so worried about keeping to a 1920s style field, that they have forgotten the tradition that is MOST important at ND; fielding a very good football team, while still maintaining academic integrity. A grass field is nothing, if we end up with a bunch of Johnny Douchebags, and Famous Jameises, on campus. However, keeping the tradition of being a STUDENT-athlete, and a moderately good citizen, will more than overshadow a few relatively minor changes to the gameday experience inside of the stadium.

You have to keep your priorities in line with what is most important. And a block ND at midfield should be pretty far down the list. But, I guess some people just have to have SOMETHING to complain about.

This just gives us another reason to be very excited about the 2014 football season. Only 3 and a half months away :/

Its absolutely bananas to think about all the changes Jack Swarbrick has brought into ND, BK deserves some credit as well. Swarbrick is the reason Notre Dame athletics have joined the 21st century

Personally, I credit Kelly almost more than Swarbrick. It seems that Swarbrick, though he clearly gets the main kudos for hiring Kelly, got behind Kelly's doctrine of updating the ND O.S. to 2014. It seems like Kelly wants it, convinces Swarbrick why its needed and then they go ahead and submit it to congress...or Pope Francis... or whoever.

You don't know Swarbrick very well then. Give Kelly plenty of credit as well, but go back to when Swarbrick was helping Indy put together bids for major athletic events, building Bankers Life and LOS among other things. He's got vision far beyond hiring BK.

Swarbrick and Kelly are the perfect combination.

As for the traditionalists, how do they feel about what Jerome Bettis said recently?

I've said for a long time, you have to keep up or you'll get left behind. Even a superpower name like Notre Dame will get left in the past. JS has been playing catch up and has done a masterful job.

What's funny is that this isn't really even ND stadium grass. Sure, it comes from the stadium, but the stadium had to be resodded 3 times this year alone! So it's not like your getting historic grass from ND stadium... Just the last version of grass. Which, I guess is still pretty cool.

It's been in the stadium longer a hell of a lot longer than anyone on here's front lawns...

FIFY

So ND is gonna get around $900k? Not bad.

That included shipping, which is a lot for that heavy of a load. Also, they have to pay people to tear it up and put it on skids. I would be suprised if there is a lot of money in it for the university.

Didn't someone say in one of the threads that they wouldn't sell the old turf to the public?

ND Field Site - Home

$150 a piece  I find it a bit amusing they're saying you can own a piece of history, and yet the grass was installed in 2013. It's not like it was the original grass they transplanted from Cartier field or anything. The website even says this grass was installed in 2013.

I love history and tradition like the next Subway Alum but you must keep up with the world we live in today. It's a brilliant move and JS continues to push ND to the forefront of college athletics again.

Is it me or have we seen BK do more interviews, podcasts, etc then Weis?

Grass is actually very easy to grow in a climate like South Bend, sod on a football field in South Bend is what is difficult.

My lawn is immaculate... please stay the hell off of it!

My wife and I were discussing this yesterday. What exactly do you DO with a gift like this? I mean, the logical conclusion is to pull up some of your own grass and replant it, but that seems like a bit of work for some grass that may or may not have seen an entire football season. It's not like you can put this stuff in your den or on the mantle...maybe if you cut off a chunk and put it in a pot I guess.
