As a conservative, this is disgusting and does not represent 99.9% of the conservative population. Everyone who ever trespassed into the Capitol should be held to the maximum penalty. Just like everyone who burned and pillaged all summer, or broke into the Oregon court rooms should be sentenced to the fullest.

This isn't about politics, you engage in this crap and you should be thrown away regardless of your purpose or affiliation.

I'd anticipate that it was a strategic move made by the police to attempt to avoid a large riot or violence. There's a limit to how much you can do as a group of three cops with barricades against a large crowd. It's also hard to tell how important that post was for defending the capitol building. The fact that the crowd actually reached the capitol building and made it inside is troubling.

It's been a bad day for America.
