I mean, I love you guys, but The Rock? Again, we are a country of 300ish million people. There’s gotta be someone that’s charismatic and has actual experience in government.

This is just crazy haha

The Jabroni beating, pie eating, trailblazing, eyebrow raising, the BEST in the present, future and past, and if you don't like him…. you can kiss The People's ass! Who, in the rudy poo are you? The Rock is gonna go thru Donald Trump like Ex Lax goes thru his fat ass mama!

Money and power are two sides of the same coin, so you can't just "get the money out". That's no more realistic than advocating for anarchy. We have to find a way to subordinate the market to higher goods. Right now there's not much that binds us aside from the market, which is why our capitalist overlords can openly buy and sell American politicians and nothing that would negatively impact their interests is ever on the table.

I'm not sure what a real fix would look like. Maybe monarchy, or a confessional state? Regardless, without an institution that can legitimately call someone like Jeff Bezos to heel, we're in for more of the same.

We're moving left culturally and right economically at a rapid rate. History may be able to predict what the reaction will be.

My general solution in a time like this would be heavy national decentralization. If you give the looney states on both ends of the spectrum more authority to control their own spheres, hypothetically they'll be less interested in subjugating their neighbors via national politics.

But since that's not how people roll, breaking the country up wouldn't be terrible if it could be done peacefully but then those folks would probably all start fighting amongst themselves anyway too. Not sure what the solution is, but surrendering to some weird post-modern left culture nonsense doesn't appeal to me.

It's designed to do that. Elections legitimate the system while ensuring nothing meaningful ever changes. If you're in the tank or either mainstream party, you're part of the problem.

What are your thoughts on systems with several parties and coalition attributes.

A little surprised to hear you say monarchy. Most didn't work out well lol. Is there a current day example of success? I'd be down with a confessional state, with some specific caveats/conditions. It would take something catastrophic to enable that though.

The "antifa" are so loosely knit, it's hard to even term them an ideology. In Oregon they are just young anarchists. Soon after the wildfires started, there were rumors of the Antifa starting them from otherwise reasonable people. All the county sheriffs and law enforcement followed up on reports and have consistently denied "antifa" had anything to do with arson. However, they have arrested eight arsonists who have no relationship to either the left or the right wing groups.

However, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force has been working with Portland law enforcement for months on the far right hate groups in the area. I would expect those group's activity to increase should it appear that Trump is losing and continues to reject honoring the results of the election.

Perhaps they increase because Michael Forest Reinoehl, a self described Antifa follower killed a Patriot Prayer member in Portland. Loved his "self defense" crap. Literally ambushed him. Pretty safe to say based on Wray's statement about ongoing investigations into Antifa, it includes Portland... I'd guess they're investigating all the nuts on both sides. But only one side has killed someone from the other side thus far.

I love how you twist this back to Trump. And as far as honoring election results, the left, and HRC have been saying "don't ever concede" for a while now. The constant fear mongering about Trump not leaving is pretty silly and has been a song the left has been singing for a long time.

Given all the voting goofs we've already seen, I can see both parties taking shit to court. 100K ballots screwed up in NY, recorded ballot counts in 72% of Detroit's absentee voting precincts didn't match the number of ballots cast, ballots in ditches. That's on just the early stuff, and in the last week. It's been a shit show so far.

We've posted on Reinoehl before in the Police State thread, his background and his disjointed life that led him around eastern Oregon and Washington. I've also posted on the white supremacist, Jeremy Christian, who stabbed three people on the light rail train (the Max) to the Airport, killing two. Just over thirty years ago Mulugeta Seraw, a 28-year-old Ethiopian immigrant, was surrounded and bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by three skinheads in Southeast Portland.

Pretty simple to come out against white supremacy. After Charlottesville when Congress unanimously passed a resolution condemning white supremacy and hate groups like the Proud Boys, Tim Scott met with Trump who had not indicated yet he would sign it. Scott said he was very clear that taking a stance against racism and violent hate groups was needed.

Scott on Face the Nation:
“It’s going to be very difficult for this president to lead if, in fact, his moral authority remains compromised.”

Trump's statement on signing:
"No matter the color of our skin or our ethnic heritage, we all live under the same laws, we all salute the same great flag, and we are all made by the same almighty God. We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. As one people, let us move forward to rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans."

I would have liked to hear that from him at the debate and condemn racism and hate, or evidence that sentiment with leadership over the three years since. Not his style. His moral authority remains compromised and that will probably be his legacy.

So you're going back 30 years ago lol. We're talking about Antifa and Proudboys, relative to the current tensions and situation.

I love you're use of adjectives, calling Reinoehl's life disjointed, in a passive means of to suggest empathy, or an excuse. I'm sure all crazies on both the left and right are disjointed.

For the record, I'd be happy to take all the extremes and drop them off on an island and let them have fun with each other.

Yes, it's pretty simple. How many times does he have to come out and say it??? Do you want him to start saying it before every presser? He's done it many times. Outside of today's denouncing...

March 2016
Clearly denounces white supremacy and the KKK specifically. He spends 2+ minutes talking about denouncing white supremacy and not wanting their support.
https://youtu.be/WLukCE3vwwA

I love you're convenient use of quotes.

Here's what he said Aug 2017
"Racism is evil. Those who cause violence in it's name are criminals and thugs. Including the KKK, neo Nazis, white supremacist, and other hate groups. They are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans "
https://youtu.be/wRkq3_DYj_o?t=107

Pretty specific, wasn't he.

But you know this already. You want MSM to ask him every day.

Anyone else think the 2 minute segments aren't anywhere near enough time? Regardless of who the candidates are, there should be more time allotted to lay out your plan on policy rather than trying to memorize a scripted response to fit a 2 minute time window.

They didn't announce the specific changes, but the commission has stated there will be some changes. One has to be muting the mics, right?

Audience gets to ask questions in the next debate.

I hope so. In sales presentations I get 30-60 minutes to present the plan and take questions most of the time, and it's nowhere near as complex as the stuff presidential candidates have to tackle.

I'm still not really sure where you get the assumption it energized his base relative to Biden. Biden literally set an hourly donation record during the debate which is a pretty strong indicator that what his supporters saw was more motivating to get out and vote not less. And then there are things like this:<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">This is kinda interesting, aside from just who "won" debate<br><br>Slightly more watchers say debate made them think better of Biden (38%) than worse of him (32%): nets to +6<br><br>When it comes to Trump, more watchers say it made them think worse (42%) than better of him (24%): nets to -18 <a href="https://t.co/0tVuOg1h3K">pic.twitter.com/0tVuOg1h3K</a></p>— Kabir K. (@kabir_here) <a href="https://twitter.com/kabir_here/status/1311148351811915778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 30, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Biden +14 versus Trump in people leaving with a positive impression, and +6 favorability. Trump -14 relative Biden, and -18 favorability. This would suggest if people watched that and now want to stay home they're likely on the right not left.

To your larger point though, only 6% of people who tuned in said they were doing so to help decide who to vote for.
This tracks with the ~7% "undecided" voters we've been seeing in polls for awhile. So you're correct that there is a relatively low vote share of undecideds.

I thought better of Joe b/c I expected him to literally drool on himself at some point - he fell over a very low hurdle. Trump disappointed b/c he wouldn't give Joe more rope to hang himself when he had him cornered on a good point.

Chris Wallace was the worst - how do you accusatorily ask Trump to denounce some obscure group and not press Joe to denounce riots and looting (idea or org - needs to be clearly denounced right)? How do you attack Trump on Climate Change and not press Joe on Green New Deal? Biden contradicted his own website on Green New Deal - total free pass. And that is the skew on Fox - imagine what the next two will be like!

I am obviously voting for Trump for same primary reason I did four years ago - SCOTUS, and he delivered bigly. Plus, everyone in DC hates him so must be doing something right.

So this is page 666 of this thread.

Appropriate perhaps for me, a science guy and an environmental guy and supposedly an objective analyst, to just throw all of that good intention out the window and just sit back and look at these two people.

I've put myself through a few footages of film --- often painful. I just can't find anything that I instinctively like about the current office holder. I'd never choose him as a friend. I wouldn't walk across the street to say hello. I'd never know what he would do on ... anything.

The other guy? Sorry to the "half" of the IE folks on the other side of this thing we're experiencing, but I just like him. He comes across to me as an old jock who played ball, and we could bullsh!t about things like that "over the fence." He's a "Man." Not a wuss like the crowd of dorks you see in front of microphones in politics.

I'm perfectly aware of how un-academic this is for me, but that doesn't mean it's not real.

Something very unlike this happened "last time" in this election. I was pretty much immediately put off by both candidates. That's not at all the case this time for me. I'd be delighted to have one of them for a neighbor. That's just one way a vote is determined, but I wonder if it will be just me who thinks/feels this way?

I get this. Often, I think, we choose a candidate for these sorts of reasons, especially in the primaries. One candidate just seems like a better person or more likeable or more relatable. I doubt if many of us who'll vote for Trump find him likeable or would want to be besties with him. We simply find his policies more in line with our own and want a president who'll appoint conservative justices and judges who'll follow the Constitution. Biden is more of a regular guy and more likeable, but I can't agree with most of his policies and he's sort of the poster child for what's wrong with DC. He's been there most of his adult life and has little in the way of actual accomplishments to show for it. If he's elected, maybe he'll do great things and solve big problems and steer us onto a better path, but nothing in his history as a senator or VP suggests that, though.

We might have even been able to co-exist across the aisle in that sh!thole we call our current Congress.

As HR McMaster said, “Condemning white supremacy should be a layup”. Whatever the reason, he’s left enough doubt to allow the MSM & his political foes to continue to pounce on this topic. That’s on Trump & his team for not being more clear/concise knowing that any misspeak or vagueness will be considered complicit.

On the other side, the MSM continues to keep their finger on the scales of fair reporting when they continue to report this:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Why am I left having to do this? <br><br>Will tag <a href="https://twitter.com/jaketapper?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@jaketapper</a> for explanation as he’s the only one left at CNN with a tiny shred of dignity. Maybe he can enlighten me.<a href="https://t.co/jnpxw1cVOC">pic.twitter.com/jnpxw1cVOC</a></p>— Dave Rubin (@RubinReport) <a href="https://twitter.com/RubinReport/status/1311663600138768387?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 1, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And moving forward, that will be on the American public to do their own research b/c, sadly; there is not a new outlet that truly tells it like it is and let’s the viewer/listener discern their own opinion.

I totally get what you are saying as well (Bishop stated it better than I could). Biden does a good job playing the “Everyman”. If i was a member of the Dem Party I would be wondering “what’s all the fuss about? You can’t get more moderate than this guy”.

Sadly, you have a hard time convincing folks on the fence that he’s not a Trojan Horse for the Left. Sanders has bragged that Biden will adopt a lot of his policies & proclaimed him as the most Progressive POTUS ever when he’s elected. Biden also had a chance to firmly state that he would NOT stack the SCOTUS nor support the end of the filibuster if elected. That’s worrisome for folks who support the Republic. And to Bishop’s point, the guy has spent 47 years on Capitol Hill and has very little to show for it.

Again, were I a Democrat; this would be a no-brainer in the same way it was a no-brainer for Reps who voted Trump over Hillary last time around. Much like 2016, I refuse to accept the two choices laid before me. I will vote again for POTUS but it won’t be for Trump nor Biden. We get the gov’t we deserve. I pray this year is a referendum on the choices we’ve been dealt in 2016 & 2020 but I suspect the powers that be prefer it this way.

Wallace asked the same damn question 4 years ago yet did not ask Biden to denounce the violence, looting, destruction and general civil disorder that is clearly on his side of the aisle and enabled by predominantly Democrat run cities and states. Biden wouldn't say the words Law and Order but the take away is Trump is a white supremacist. Glad my 16 year old son could watch that live and see the primary reaction from his age group post debate.

I'm sorry but that's just a total lie. Trump tweets stuff like this and people gobble it up:<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Biden REFUSED to use the term, LAW & ORDER! But everyone who watched the debate should know that's completely false:<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Trump says Biden "can't say the words" law and order, saying "you saw" this at the debate...<br><br>...the debate at which Biden said, "Yes, I'm in favor of it. Everybody's in favor of law and order" and continued, "Law and order with justice, where people get treated fairly."</p>— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) <a href="https://twitter.com/ddale8/status/1311381791010414592?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 30, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Mike:
I respect your opinion and always appreciate your insightful posts, but I feel the opposite. We now have records for both. Trump was definitely not my first choice four years ago, but have been presently surprised (that is if people actually listened) that he has done everything in his power he said he would. He is the one who laid out his Supreme Court picks....Biden has not. Biden would not even answer the question of whether he would pack the courts or not. Biden reminds me of the typical politician (both side of the aisle) who either won't take a stance on the record or changes his mind with the winds of politics. Like his policies or not, Trump has done what he said he would set out to do with very little help I feel from either side.

Biden seems very likeable, but I have come across many like him in my 30+ of business. Nice to your face and then stabs you in the back on the way out. He literally was part of the outgoing administration who spied on the incoming administration's staff. Lied about any knowledge yet because of the FOIA and testimony we now know he was in most of the key meetings involving the spying. I would have more trust in Trump with a family member in their care any day of the week over Biden.

Yes, money has been a little bit tight lately. But, at the end of my life, when I'm sitting on my yacht, am I going to be thinking about much money I have? No. I'm going to be thinking about, how many friends I have. And my children. And my comedy albums. I mean, I have a yacht so I obviously did pretty well money wise.

What are your thoughts on systems with several parties and coalition attributes.

It's unavoidable and present in Congress (our coalition building occurs intra-party instead of inter-party as it does in parliamentary systems). Every nation has an aristocracy that jockeys for advantage; but you also need a powerful executive who can keep them in line, and at least one other non-state institution with the power to delineate boundaries and keep them all working toward the common good. We don't have either of those things, so our aristocracy runs amok. Nothing improves until we figure out how to make them behave again.

A little surprised to hear you say monarchy. Most didn't work out well lol. Is there a current day example of success? I'd be down with a confessional state, with some specific caveats/conditions. It would take something catastrophic to enable that though.

As I said, I don't see an easy fix here. One of our problems is that our current system makes it very easy to obscure who's actually responsible the shitty status quo. You can always blame an obstructionist minority party, the Supreme Court, a biased media, etc. In a monarchy (preferably not an absolute one!), you at least know where the buck stops. If the aristocrats are selling you out to a geo-political rival for their own private advantage, or are engrossed in their own petty squabbles while the lower classes come apart at the seams, then it's the king's job to put them in their place. Who's job is that in modern America?

But more importantly, we need something to bind us together. The market can't do it. But embracing our imperial status and connecting that with the history of Christendom might.

Another thing that I cannot seem to understand is people, who rightfully question Trump's finances/wealth, yet look the other way as to our politicians who went into "public service" wealth and finances. It amazes me how many of our politicians have enriched their own and families finances in a life of "public service." Trump even mentioned when asked about his taxes during the debate that it shows his family is losing millions because of his presidency.

I recall a stat I heard during the '09 recession that 7 of the 10 wealthiest counties at the time were in the DC area. There is nothing being produced in those counties...ponder that. At the time, I said Boehner and Pelosi were smoking their cigarettes and drinking martinis together on the taxpayer's dime while laughing at all of us.

I'm sorry but that's just a total lie. Trump tweets stuff like this and people gobble it up:<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Biden REFUSED to use the term, LAW & ORDER! There go the Suburbs.</p>— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) <a href="https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1311310383781679107?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 30, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So cut the propaganda.

That was the recovery which also places an obvious qualifier on it implying there is not currently equal justice under the law thus continuing to fan the flames. His knee jerk reaction and body language were - "OH CRAP - um, ahhh.... how do I answer this" which is far more indicative of reality to me than whatever BS floats out of the politicians mouth afterward.
