I mean, I love you guys, but The Rock? Again, we are a country of 300ish million people. There’s gotta be someone that’s charismatic and has actual experience in government.

This is just crazy haha

well he might be out of a job pretty soon so that might work

Not that Kanye isn’t great and all, but damn I wish we had some actual third party options.

The two party system is an absolute joke. I think most of us on this board actually agree on like 95% of issues but the two party systems forces so much anger and hatred because of the us vs them mentality it creates.

I’ve never registered with any political party and I never will. Unfortunately that just doesn’t matter. You’re either with us or against us one way or the other, which is sad as hell.

Green, Libertarian, etc. don't even get on the ballot in some states. As a voter, why the hell would I vote for someone on my ballot that isn't on the ballot in all fifty states? You can't possibly win.

Get the money out. Simple as that. Campaign Finance Reform > term limits. Dark money everywhere now. Not good for 98% of the population.

Look at Illinois. They just came off the most expensive governor race in the history of the country in 2018. One term incumbent millionaire Repubican lost to a billionaire Democrat, who beat a Kennedy in the primary along with a state senator who had previously served in the state house (actually qualified maybe?).

Get the money out. We're going down a bad road because of Citizens United. It's only going to get worse.

I mean... apparently not. Look who our candidates are. Tulsi probably was a better choice for the left, but she got buried by the media.

Andrew Yang spot on with how to solve this with his "freedom bucks" or whatever he called it. If you gave each American $100 of their taxes back to allocate to political candidates they support you would inject $20B at the grassroots level and make special interest "big money" completely irrelevant.

I was thinking last night about how much I would’ve enjoyed a personality up there like Yang just giving us facts and solutions.

It's designed to do that. Elections legitimate the system while ensuring nothing meaningful ever changes. If you're in the tank or either mainstream party, you're part of the problem.

I'm not so sure about that.
He seems to embody the worst qualities of both candidates.

Here's Kanye on abortion:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5HGkUJyXhR4?start=34" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Here's his platform. And here's the platform for the American Solidarity Party. Both of those are a lot better than what's currently on offer.

If the answer is "a lot" then last night was successful for Trump.

Luntz is a GOP pollster, so TIFWIW, but Frank Luntz thinks it made undecided voters less likely to vote at all.

Green, Libertarian, etc. don't even get on the ballot in some states. As a voter, why the hell would I vote for someone on my ballot that isn't on the ballot in all fifty states? You can't possibly win.

It sends a message, and doesn't make you complicit in the status quo.

Get the money out. Simple as that. Campaign Finance Reform > term limits. Dark money everywhere now. Not good for 98% of the population.

Money and power are two sides of the same coin, so you can't just "get the money out". That's no more realistic than advocating for anarchy. We have to find a way to subordinate the market to higher goods. Right now there's not much that binds us aside from the market, which is why our capitalist overlords can openly buy and sell American politicians and nothing that would negatively impact their interests is ever on the table.

I'm not sure what a real fix would look like. Maybe monarchy, or a confessional state? Regardless, without an institution that can legitimately call someone like Jeff Bezos to heel, we're in for more of the same.

Andrew Yang spot on with how to solve this with his "freedom bucks" or whatever he called it. It's not a bad idea, but that system wouldn't be especially difficult to capture. Monied interests would just rig the game so that it's only convenient to designate your freedom bucks for compromised parties or candidates.

I wouldn't count on that being a solution. Special interest money would go into campaigns geared towards those 200 million citizens to influence which candidates they spent that $20B on. I don't think much would change in the long run.

It’s a bit more complicated. Sorry google.

Some of the biggest craziest fires I’ve ever seen burned in chaparral and it really isn’t clear what Trump even means when he says “forest management”?

The biggest issue by far based on my studies, work and interaction with experts on this stuff is the fire suppression we have engaged in for the last 100+ years.

Bad logging practices and where and how people chose to build would be tied for second.

As to the climate issue. It’s here. Historically high temps and historically low RH have played huge roles in the intensity and rapid spread of the four massive wild land fires I have seen and lived through since 2017.

It's indeed more complicated. Point is, forest management is something widely accepted as something that needs to be done to reduce risk, and there's a ton of other issues that are impacts.

Unrelated but seeing Crenshaw's name reminded of this that I saw a few days ago. I mean, there's some gerrymandered-ass districts out there but this has got to be one of the more unbelievable ones.

Look at Wikipedia's definition of Antifa "array autonomous groups" "highly decentralized movement".

Anyways, not to get distracted here, what is your position on the "stand down and standby" to the Proudboys? They seem to love it.

You don't need a HQ in NYC or have a centralized governing group to be coordinated. Ever heard of Al-Qaeda, or terrorist cells? We had to spend billions to understand their organization structure. Antifa is purposefully modeled the way they are.

As far as the whole racist stuff. Trump asked for a name. They gave him a name. The words he used were Wallace's.

Trump was asked today point blank about White Supremacy and he said "I've always denounced any form of any of that". Doubt CNN or MSNBC played that..

Yeah. But he didn't. He told them to stand by and watch over the polls. In 2020 our president will not condemn white supremacists. Period. How is that possible? My biggest takeaway from the debate.

He did today. You voting for him now? :)

And people got worked up about Billy Carter and his love of beer. times have changed! lol

I still have a can of Billy Beer.

When Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson teased a Presidential run a few ago, I said he should run in earnest. He's used to giving speeches in front of lots of people, he's dripping with charisma, and he's quick on his feet (Figuratively and literally). He would kill the competition if he got through the primaries, and let's be honest...if you go back 30+ years the more charismatic candidate tends to win each time. Obviously smaller legit paychecks in politics...but we could have had our President Camacho.

I can smell what the Rock is cooking. Aside from his Hurricane pedigree, love the guy. If he had a decent platform, I'd vote for him. Just seems like a great person/guy. Need a good platform to go along with that though.

And honestly, I'm really down for electing someone that's not been a politician for xx years.

What did his director of the FBI say about Antifa? "We look at Antifa as more of an ideology or a movement than an organization"

What makes up the largest chunk of domestic terrorism Mr. Wray?? "People ascribing to some white supremacy type of ideology is certainly the largest chunk of that."

Real quotes by a Trump appointee.

Trump asked for a name because he couldn't do a blanket condemnation on white supremacy, simple as that. It was the biggest softball question ever. It's like asking someone if they're against all Cancer, and the person responds "Which cancer! What cancer? Oh, ok um, yeah brain cancer....stand by and stand down"

"I've always denounced it" - Lol that's so laughable, you can support the policies he puts forward (which I vehemently disagree with), but making excuses for his character? Come on.

Once again you're hanging your hat on one of Wray's comments. He later clarified saying Antifa is real, not a fiction, and they've seen organized tactical activity on both a local and regional level. He also talked about how they work in nodes. He added that they don't diminish the threat of how dangerous they are, just because of their organizational structure. And, there's the fact he also admitted they have several ongoing investigations into Antifa groups.

Anyway, pretty sure we've already had that exchange, and I've already provide Wray's clarification. You're tendency to hold on to, and prop up, one element is noted, again...

As far as Trump.... I'm not making excuses for his character at all. I've called him disgusting probably 100s of times. I will however call out BS.

As far as the whole white supremacy stuff, he clearly was asked and answered today (he's done it before). You'll still reflect on some highly debatable spin from last night. As another said earlier on the topic, you hear what you want to hear. And if you're ignoring what he clearly said today, you also don't hear what you don't want to hear either. I'm sure weeks later, you'll again spin what he said last night, and ignore what he said today.

I'm hanging my hat (I'm more of a toque guy, not much of a hat guy) on what Wray is saying because he's a Republican and is the top FBI guy. Is there someone at the FBI more important than him that I should be referencing?

Your notes on Antifa - Yeah they're obviously a destructive bunch? No one is doubting that, I'm not and no one else is.

We have a lot of exchanges and there is a lot of overlap lol.

To the white supremacy stuff - An intelligent guy like Praet has said those comments were bad. Why can't you just say they were bad comments and he should have just straight up said white supremacy is bad? Why does it always have to be some next day word salad at one of his safe spaces? Saying "I always denounced it" is not actually denouncing it. I can say I've always shot in the 70's about my golf game, but if I don't do it, I don't always shot in the 70's.

I haven’t been following the current dialogue and just saw this but yeah I get them being super problematic but I’m still trying to find where they are super racist white supremacists,... I’ve tried. Other than just being labeled as such idk where it really comes from. As far as I can honestly tell they’re just a bullshit answer to Antifa and just as bad,... supremacists though? I’m willing to listen but it comes off as just another in a frankly really long list of lazy leftist name calling,

On Antifa, you're doing a dance here and being disingenuous. You responded to ulukinatme's post about Biden's comment's about it being an ideal, not a group. It is a group, plain and simple. And to take it up to the basic level, the whole issue is about the threats posed by Antifa. The left wants to minimize it, and won't even answer questions on it. You yourself say they are destructive. But you're wrong when you say no one is denying it. The left doesn't even want to acknowledge their existence. Hell, all you have to do is turn on your TV this summer to see they exist. That is, unless you only watch MSNBC and CNN, who simply won't air the vid.

On Trump. What about what he said today is word salad? It was clear. I wish he would have been that clear last night. Had it not been a 3 way brawl of folks over talking each other during the topic, he probably would have been. And safe space? He was being pelted by MSM reporters. Biden is the only one in a safe space teeing off on softballs.

Anyone else think the 2 minute segments aren't anywhere near enough time? Regardless of who the candidates are, there should be more time allotted to lay out your plan on policy rather than trying to memorize a scripted response to fit a 2 minute time window.

This bullshit political discourse we all suffer through serves only to conceal who actually has power in this country. Nobody gives two squirts of piss about so called proud boys and white supremacists are the last thing on anyone's mind. Hard to imagine people being dumb enough to believe this but they do. You win again fbi/Cia.
