The last episode was a big disappointment, so very predictable and derivative. Case in point , Ray on his way to escape decides I better pull of the highway and go take one last look at my son. My My, that's a story vehicle you see in the worst shlock, I could get away but I better go check this or that one last time, that of course is followed by the predictable run in with the monster , the serial killer , or in this case the corrupt police killers.
And then Frank , it looks like they may leave him out there alive but he can't restrain himself from asking his would be killers for a ride....hmmmm
There was no surprise and no shock to the ending , it was just a dreary ending to a somewhat convoluted story to begin with. The audience invested hours in these characters and this complicated story and instead of rewarding the audience with some kind of payoff beyond the expected, instead, the plot punishes it with a predictable melodramatic B movie type of story wrap.
The tedious array of off screen characters and what their role was in this long overbearing story is mostly explained by Ray and Ani and the surviving child of the robbery, in a LONG BORING explanation of what exactly everyones role was. Just a very lazy way to explain and link the variety of characters together , another tribute to made for TV movies that can join the sudden appearance of the crazed knife wielding orphan and his chained up sister who was all so happy to explain weeks of plot points to us in a couple of quick sentences. This was simply a failure to finish.
From the convenient plot explanations to the last minute diversion to see my son ( a sullen and non responsive little tike) to the over the top Death march by Frank....
This season, to quote Larry Holmes, could not hold the jock strap of season one!!
My concern is this director had one almost masterpiece of TV ( season one) in him and after that may just have nothing left. That happens so often in creative enterprises.
