I'm not sure I like their discrepancy-based coefficient. They're basically saying that Boise State's ranking would be improved if they graduated half as many football players to match the overall student body. That's a pretty big flaw in the ranking.

Someone tell me I'm reading this wrong...

Of the four playoff teams — Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State — the defending champion Seminoles have the lowest GSR, at 65%. “It’s super troubling,” says Holt. “Florida State is a very good football school. But what’s going on here with the other 45% of the players?”

65 + 45 = ??

Color me confused why it says Baylor went 10-3, MSU went 8-4, Oregon 9-3, FSU 8-4, Ole Miss 8-4, Clemson 12-1, etc.

I'm very confused by this graphic. As well, there are some schools further down the list that I'd much rather send my (nonexistent) kid to than Bama or ASU.

I hate to feel bad for USC, but if got acceptance letters from those 25 schools and only those 25 schools, no way I'm not going to USC.

I'd think about it. They've got a decent academic reputation outside of football, though I've never visited. What's your take here?

Yeah, football not part of the equation. Academics, prestige, alumni, location, student profile, etc. It just seems like a much more reputable school than the others on the list. To be fair, I didn't apply to any of them and haven't done an extensive amount of research on it.

Y'all are sleeping on GT. Hotlanta aint a bad place, and the academics tower over most of the others on that list.

Whoops! I missed a "not" in your statement. Definitely read it as "no way I'm going to USC." Hence the confusion.

The reality is that many of these places are very good schools. What degree are you looking to get? In many of them, football players can skate, obviously. But the schools are not bad places. Heck, in some professions, a degree from FSU is much better than from ND (no italics).

Myron Rolle agrees with you.

this academic ranking bs comes up every year, but why does anyone care? No one is doing anything about it, no one is taking tcu and putting them in now because they graduate more players than bama. its a sad truth, but people only care about winning football games, everything else comes in second, and not a close second. wake me up when the ncaa or whatever governing body is left actually puts an emphasis on academics, I'm tired of these articles, they don't mean anything.

Myron Rolle agrees with you.

Myron Rolle has a B.A. in Exercise Science. A degree ND doesn't offer. ND does have a highly regarded premed program but I doubt few students would be able to play football and graduate in premed in 2-1/2 years as Rolle did in Exercise Sciences at FSU.

Rolle also wanted a medical school on campus. ND does not have one, FSU does.

Rolle also wanted a school that would accept all his 21 HS AP classes so he could graduate on an accelerated schedule which he did. A number of ND alumni here have commented that ND does not automatically accept all AP credits.
