Is that what this is about? There is a basketball thread for that. What people are pissed because we lost at 2 in the morning playing an away against a good Cal team? The crap people make up reasons to get angry and pissed about.
Cal is not good and neither is ND this year

That wasn't my message. I am just frustrated at the state of both bball programs. Talent is one thing, consistent coaching deficiencies is another.
Got ya. Misunderstood the message. They lost me after the Purdue Fort Wayne L.

I wonder why Shrewsberry hasn’t been successful? I think he’ll have a better team than the past two seasons, but you can’t be in year 3 losing to Purdue FW…

MF couldn't be doing what he’s doing at the level he is doing it without Pete’s full fledged support and empowerment.

Seriously, just 10 minutes before you posted this, I said almost a carbon copy out loud. (To Oregon fans who are sick of my GOAT'd skill of making every football discussion somehow about Notre Dame)

The power this 8,000 student private Catholic school in northern Indiana holds in college athletics is pretty amazing. Swarbrick and Pete both present, from what I can tell the only school with 2 reps.

I think with college football the power doesn’t necessarily come from “a team” but conferences. Not sure who is all there but probably still outmanned by conference representation. The conferences are going to do what’s best for their conference as a whole.

We seem to be doing ok in a world where bags are supreme and rules don’t matter. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if we keep the status quo lol. Our kids generally stay because they want the degree and we have the money to pay for the transfers We need and recruits we need. We’ve shockingly benefited from the current set up.

Yep. In a sport that has become overwhelmed by short-term, transactional, thinking, Notre Dame promises something more lasting.
There truly are players and coaches who value that (and we have the resources to make it worthwhile for them to choose it). That creates a culture of people who are there for something bigger than themselves. Nurtured by excellent leadership (which we also have the resource to employ).

So, for now anyway, yes I think the current setup oddly works to our advantage.

Not just us, all the big money programs are happy, although they won't admit it. No idea how this is going to play out.

Off topic, but I think Swarbrick deserves a significant building named after him, if not a statue. Obviously was an incredible power broker for us and pushed through meaningful changes across the board at ND (stadium, transfers, hitting on Freeman, etc…)

Very much Brian Kelly esque in doing a lot of good for Notre Dame but being hated by a vocal segment

These conferences all only want rules to stop the other guys. None of them have any plans on following them. As far as individual teams go, there are plenty that ruled the roost when they were one of the few paying, but are now desperately trying to hold on now when everyone can pay.
