Then you've fallen for the same false propaganda of all those fans/talking heads and USC's bullshit reasoning. The MoU was a known agreement with the CFP since at least this past spring. A deal that was signed in 2024. Don't hold water for those pussies.
You are missing the point. It was all but confirmed that our side was the one that put that out again after the playoff snub to reassure our fans. He chose to try to show how good he was to our fans and, in doing so, massively hurt our public perception and negotiating leverage.

So we lost negotiating leverage by a public detail of the leverage we already negotiated re-appearing publicly?

This is one of those things where what you see on Twitter from Joe Nobody really does not matter, and never has or will.

At a time when the national narrative has turned against us because the media organization that essentially controls sports in this country needed to turn us from a victim of their actions to an unlikable and arrogant aggressor, he decided the best idea was put bring up more fuel for the fire. If people cannot see how this was almost exactly the wrong move, then I really need to stop reading this thread because we have fundamentally different understandings of the world.

Edit for Dale's edit:

Its already being cited as a reason the USC negotiations turned in the last few weeks.

So you believe USC blew up the deal because they believe a situation will play out where USC and ND finish EXACTLY 11 and 12 in the rankings and that H2H game being played in Week 0 versus Week 14 will somehow change that?

Oh and a Big Ten AD and President was not aware of the details the Big Ten Commissioner signed till Ross Dellenger tweeted it? You do know who the Commissioner answers to right?

Does that make any sense at all to you?

When we've been good, we've always been portrayed as arrogant aggressors by people like USC beat writers following the party line, room-temperature IQ Miami podcasters with backwards caps, and college football redditors (which are at the tail end of the sports media human centipede). It's a sign that we're back to where we should be as legitimate contenders.

Playing the ND/USC game at USC in November is a "compromise"? You know, the way it's been done since 1926? Either they want to keep the rivalry going, or they don't. They don't. It is what it is.

The MOU is meaningless, though, and if ND/Bevacqua think it's significant and will "reassure" fans, they are mistaken. Expansion to 16 is more security than the MOU.

If you're buying USC's excuses and believe you could do better than Pete. Good luck in Life. And I'll be looking for you to solve World Peace, World Hunger, and all the problems we face. Rock on, Ace.

I’ll reserve judgement on the last few weeks, but I need to see actual results from the ACC whining to justify all the negative PR we’ve received bc of it. I trust him bc he seems like a very competent guy, but he’s gotta show something was accomplished there.

I will say having BYU in the back pocket for SC dropping out was very well done. We could have been absolutely screwed and managed to get at the very least an equal caliber team on the schedule.

I think by this you must be saying an 11-1 ND is always in the play offs but a 10-2 ND is never in the play offs ?

Ryan Kartje seems like a moron. He actually thinks USC just found out about the MOU last week?

It's just that the MOU says ND is in if ranked high enough by the committee. But it still depends on the committee ranking.

And I don't think it even comes into force if the CFP moves to 16 teams (only 12 or 14), which seems likely now.

All of you mental midgets shitting on Pete are out over your skis. He’s literally trying to thread a needle in terms of ensuring our playoff viability and allowing us to maintain some semblance of independence—which based on the current landscape is looking to be nearly impossible.

The most asinine posts are ones that somehow allude to ND having some sort of sympathy based on not making the playoffs? What in the legacy media or on social media would give you any sort of basis for that conclusion? Personally I’ve never seen a more vitriolic loathing for ND in my lifetime. Even with today’s SC series announcement the entire media is being intentionally obtuse and blaming ND for the postponement…except Keyshawn Johnson.

Some of you just set yourselves up to be absolutely miserable 24/7.

Last response, here is the black and white ink evidence, dated 11/27/2024:

“This past spring, CFP leaders — the 10 conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director — re-evaluated the format when they agreed on a new six-year extension that begins with the 2026 playoff. They didn’t settle on a format, instead only agreeing to protections that guarantee (1) the five highest-ranked champions an automatic berth, (2) the field to be 12 or 14 teams in size and (3) Notre Dame to receive an at-large bid if it is ranked inside the top 12 or 14, depending on the field size.”

They are lying to you. They knew about this agreement well before a few weeks ago. They think you, and the USC fanbase and the masses are dumb enough to eat it up.

Most of these A.D.‘s are lawyers so they’re used to lying.

Yep. This should not have been news to anyone who was paying attention. I'm pretty sure we all discussed this at the time on this very board. I will gladly offer my legal and strategic advisory services to the University of Southern California. $500 an hour seems fair.

He has done a poor job as AD this month, aside from getting Freeman extended again.

I don't want to hear about his prior experience; he has not shown to be adept at all at working deals to keep ND's standing healthy, and he's shown to be poor at hiring/extending coaches.

Who else, besides extending Freeman, has he hired or extended? The sample size there seems to be…1.

Again, we don’t get the privilege of seeing how the sausage is made in terms of “making deals to keep ND’s standing healthy.” There was a conspiratorial effort to keep ND out of the playoffs this year. What would you have liked him to do? I think there’s an immediacy that a lot of our fanbase expected that just isn’t practical in this modern landscape of college athletics.

B/c most of us don't give a hoot about Notre Dame Mens Basketball, I'd imagine.
Is that what this is about? There is a basketball thread for that. What people are pissed because we lost at 2 in the morning playing an away against a good Cal team? The crap people make up reasons to get angry and pissed about.
