13th game - play the Big 12 conference champion.
Love it. It would probably have to be a home-and-home since NFL stadiums won't be available in December, but nobody on the playoff committee could object to the "Big 12 - ND Classic." The NCAA would never allow it though.

Is Notre Dame gaming the system with no 13th game? | News OK

Best quote:

If we’re going to start counting games — and I think we should start counting games — then let’s count games. Let’s put mandatory requirements on scheduling. Limit the number of I-AA opponents. Limit the number of opponents outside the Power 5 conferences. If I was on the committee, I wouldn’t sit there and say Alabama is 12-1. I would say Alabama is 9-1. Games that are automatic victories don’t count. A 13-game schedule with three rumdums is not better than a 12-game schedule with one rumdum.

Rather lose to Texas 35-31 than Beat Eastern Michigan 77-3....

I could less about being in the playoff if the entire season I was bored

Who is scheduling Eastern Michigan? Our schedule would be pretty much the same , ND won't schedule FCS games.

Of course, it is simply a suggestion for a 13th game but, sounds somewhat reasonable. Fart in the wind though.....

I agree. If the NCAA won't sanction it as a 13th game, call it an "exhibition," hire some officials, and put it on NBC. Talking heads will love it.

David Byrne's on his way right now.

Great schedule if you want to lose 5 games a year...Sure way to lose a giant fan-base is continue to go 8-5... But oh boy watching us lose close games will be fun.

(k) Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico. [FBS/FCS]
Any football games played in Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico, respectively, either against or under the sponsorship of an active member institution located in Hawaii, Alaska or Puerto Rico, by a Division I member institution located outside the area in question.

Since we're throwing out pie-in-the-sky suggestions, we get Navy to open a satellite campus at the Pearl Harbor base and play them in Hawai'i every year.

Now that is a good idea! Even if they don't want to play there every year, we could play a home/home with Hawaii with an alternating game with Navy in Pearl Harbor.

boner.

In our current situation I'd be happy with something like this:

Navy (I'd open with them every year if possible)
Extreme Cupcake (Yes, less than Temple level, give me directional schools or give me death)
Interchangeable Traditional Powerhouse
ACC game
ACC game
ACC game
Extreme cupcake
USC (in years we play out there move this game to the back end and move the extreme cupcake with it)
ACC game
ACC game
Stanford
Insert game of varying difficulty
Hawaii (when possible)

With that you still have games against the UGAs, USCs, FSUs, Stanfords and Clemson's of the world to sell the resume but don't have to grind out six-seven straight weeks against above average teams... as you can see I love how the SEC schedules...

Basically - Screw a 13th game. ND does not need to schedule a 13th game. When Missouri and all the other coaches that are getting their flowery panties in wads because ND is not in a conference; when these same coaches do not have a FCS team on their schedule, then they can start the crying and b-itching about being in a conference.

Holy $hit - Where's the Tylenol !!!!

Coaches complaining about Notre Dame's schedule should look at their own

Among the recent powers whose coaches have complained about Notre Dame, here are some regular-season opponents either from the last five years or on upcoming schedules, via FBSchedules.com. You'll spot a lot of FCS teams, former FCS teams and lower mid-majors! I didn't include anywhere near all the mid-majors! Some even get to play Syracuse!

No, Notre Dame does not have to join a conference because of the Playoff

Notre Dame don't have a special arrangement with the College Football Playoff like it did with the BCS. If Notre Dame ends the season ranked fourth or higher, it makes the field, just like any other team. If it is fifth or lower, it's out, just like any other team...There are more than enough problems to go around in college football. We don't need to invent new ones to keep us busy.

Big Deal.

All this will do is force conferences like the Missouri Valley and Big Sky to go FBS or there will be an exodus from those conferences into the non Power 5 FBS conferences.

Schools like Indiana State, Illinois St, Youngstown St all need that one or two big paydays a year from the Power 5 schools. They will find a way to continue to get those funds and the Illinois' of the FBS will help them.

I guess as a fan, I like ND's tough schedule, yeah it might mean we only make the playoffs 1 out of 6 years instead of 1 out of 3, but If my choice was playing Stanford, USC, MSU, or Woffard, Tenn St and Eastern Michigan, I choose the Gauntlet

I've said this till I'm blue in the face to my southern football fanatic friends -if any sec school played Notre Dame's schedule they would understand they have it easier in the sec. Also know there is a reason after Spurrier tried those Marines on for size a few years ago that no other sec team has scheduled them. Navy almost gutted them.

This week's Shamrock Series game has me thinking about future Series games. 2016 is announced, in San Antonio against Army, but what about 2017?

Here's the unofficial 2017 schedule...where is the Shamrock game?

Sep 02 | vs Temple
Sep 09 | vs Georgia
Sep 16 | at Boston College
Sep 23 | at Michigan State
Sep 30 | vs Miami (OH)
Oct 07 | at North Carolina
Oct 14 | TBD
Oct 21 | TBD
Oct 28 | vs North Carolina State
Nov 04 | vs Wake Forest
Nov 11 | at Miami
Nov 18 | vs Navy
Nov 25 | at Stanford

Southern Cal gets one of the TBD, the BYE gets the other. We can assume that Georgia and Southern Cal will not be the Shamrock game on account of it being a premier matchup. Temple and Miami are too small. I seriously doubt they move the Navy game due to tradition. So will the 2017 Shamrock game really be against North Carolina State or Wake Forest? Kinda weak.

I really like this schedule. Lot of "what ifs" with it being 2 years away and all, such as some teams, especially Miami and BC, being a lot better. Also didn't realize how quickly the Georgia games are approaching.

Personally, I think the Shamrock series will either be Miami (OH) or Wake.

I think they should schedule a game in Texas every year for recruiting.
Either a Texas school or a shamrock game in Dallas. Most years it would appear they are doing this.
I know Texas and Texas A&M are in the future.

Id like to see a shamrock game at the Georgia dome. We recruit Georgia hard and usually don't have success, but come close. Finally starting to get serious with some guys in Robertson and Beal.

Isn't the Shamrock vs Navy in Jacksonville?
