Your nephew is a tough SOB.

Yeah, he knew he was hurt, but not how bad. He told us he thought it was a bad jam. As the quarter dragged on, the pain got worse and worse. But it was the 4th quarter, and they won, and he has my tiger blood running through his veins. ;)

Honestly, we weren't real happy with him for playing through it. To the coaches defense though. He looked hurt, not injured.

Wow.

Other than 1 catch, #6 effectively took their best WR out of the game. I think he had 2 catches. They threw away from him all game.

Will Fuller had basically an extra defender on him all game over the top. They weren't going to let him beat them deep.

The ND OL didn't get "Dominated". In pass protection, they were pretty good unless Temple brought 15 (or so it seemed), and they were bound and determined to stop Prosise (which they did).

I know everyone expected to thump Temple because they played bad against ECU last week, and that's the only Temple football they've watched. But that's a really good, really amped up Temple team. Should we/could we have won by more? Sure. But I'd pick that Temple team to beat both Houston and Memphis if they play like that (yea, AAC, but those are some pretty good teams).

We beat a pretty legit T25 team tonight on the road and played pretty bad inside the 20. That's not an awful way to end the weekend. Pretty sure we're the only team that can say that this weekend.

Exactly! KVR's a great player, and I'm not sure what people saw that made it seem any different tonight. It's not like our defense got diced through the air.

I enjoyed seeing, hearing, feeling the air getting sucked out of all the Temple fans.

Refs were pretty bad.

Jaylon Smith just doesn't miss tackles.

Where has Corey Robinson disappeared to? They don't even seem to look his way anymore... maaaybe a couple times a game. If it's not a completion, they never look back to him later???

That Temple defense had some of the best tackling I've seen in a while. So, so disciplined.

I agree, our defense really needs to watch the video of their tackling.

I think Joe needs to watch 30 hours of video on them on how NOT to miss tackles.

Redzone O was awful.

KVR got picked on a lot, but came up big at the end thankfully.

Kizer has ice water in his veins.

We need to find ways to get CJ the ball when the defense is looking to stuff the run. 14 touches isn't enough, we need to work on some pitches or execute the screen better.

We absolutely need to get Nyles/Grace/Martini some snaps in for Joe, if for no other reason Martini and Nyles could use the experience for next year. Put these guys in for a few plays to spell him, I'm pretty sure the front 7 can get lined up with Jaylon, Day, Rochelle, Onwualu, and Romeo on the field.

WRs all came up big tonight with coverage being rolled over to Fuller, and yet Fuller's TD was fantastic at the end.

Why are we always playing so far off opponent's receivers? We complain about our pass rush sucking, but you know a great way to buy time for your DL and prevent teams from gouging you with quick passes? Jam the receivers at the line! It's great for disrupting timing with receivers and it buys your DL a few seconds to get to the QB. It seemed like USC spent a lot of time pressing us iwth Adoree and their other corners, are you telling me we can't do that to Temple's WRs?

If you're going to start a post game thread, the mods have requested(years ago) that you specify the date (year) in the thread title, so that they can distinguish them in the archives.

Thanks....

1. This team is probably a Top Ten team, but they are far from complete.

2. Having said 1.; Of Notre Dame's 460 yards and 3 TDs, ND's stars, Will Fuller and CJ Prosise combined for 107 yards and 1 TD. In other words, when Temple did effectively take ND's stars out of the game, the offense was still able to get work done and make hay with the supporting cast. Perhaps we *should* revisit Brian Kelly's recruiting, player development, and play calling. DeShone Kizer, Torii Hunter, Jr., and Chris Brown were the key contributors for the game.

3. I would hope that Temple's Defense earned some respect tonight. They were very good. They are disciplined, fast, and cover and tackle very well.

4. Kizer had a great game, but still has some glaring weaknesses. He's still too hesitant, too often, in the pocket when no one is open downfield. Quit trying to hit a home run. Tuck it and take off and get the "guaranteed" 6-7 yards, or throw it into the first row of the stands. But quit holding on to it, or trying to dance around looking for a running lane all the way to the end zone.

5. The Defense was shaky at times, but also played very well at times. Overall, I think they were pretty good. Held Temple to <125 yards rushing, <200 yards passing, and got one HUGE turnover. The talent level of the defense has gotten better every year for the last few years, and I think Kelly will have it worked out pretty soon. The D line is solid. Linebacker is getting better, with Coney, Martini, and Morgan about to take over.

6. Tough, hard nosed win. As bad as they are for my blood pressure; I will take winning these games over the losing them during the Weis years. You have to admit; there is no quit in this team, and there appears to actually be confidence that they will find a way to win the game............... unlike in the live chat.

My game ball was going to go to Kizer, but I just can't overlook his mistakes. He still looks unsure of what to do in the pocket too often. The first INT was just a really terrible mistake on his part. The second INT was just bad bad luck. So I am going to give my game ball to........... the Defensive line. They got good pressure all night long, and helped really limit Temple's running game.

I think this is fair (as in even handed). I really thought the refs were BAAAAAD. On the second pick, the ND receiver got popped before the ball got there...which caused the int. Also I saw Crob get popped long before the ball got there in the endzone. The PI on Luke was awful. And the targeting...these are atrocious calls...I see them every week and 8 out of 10 are NOT targeting. Shumate's was NOT targeting. I'm not one to complain real hard, or real frequently about the refs. Also, I did not hear the whistle before Martin launched into the pile, maybe it blew, and I'm off here. But if you are going to allow the scrum, you can't hammer these guys for the manner in which they come into the scrum. This crew needs to be traded in for a horse we could shoot. The worst thing you can say about a crew is they impacted the outcome of a game...thank God not the outcome, but they were way more a part of this game than they should EVER be.

Also, I'd argue that the poor officiating brought Kelly to overreact to Grimes more than just what Grimes did...put it this way, if the Refs weren't seemingly leaning a little toward Temple, I don't think Kelly would have been so sensitive.

I am in the BK skeptic camp, but I think your summary is about right. I think some people are being a overly critical about this because too many people were expecting a blow-out win, when maybe they shouldn't have. Temple looks like a strong defensive team.

If there was anything to add to that list, RZ plays/playcalling continues to be a problem. They stack the box, BK's answer is 5-wide empty backfield. Alabama, Stanford, MState, OSU would probably all go jumbo package with 7 lineman. If OL is our strength, why not use it? Or how about line up with what looks like a jumbo package with 3 TEs and your tallest receiver, then audible them out wide. Seems like you should be able to find a mismatch. I mean, there has to be an answer here.

Something else that I think BK does poorly is move his weapons around. For example, Fuller always plays on the outside. If he's being double covered, why not line him up in the slot or send him in motion inside, to get a mismatch. USC does this very well. Getting Fuller covered by a safety alone or LB could result in big plays.

Another thing I dont understand is why every WR route seems to be 10 yards straight downfield then there's movement. It doesn't seem like the route trees include quick slants or crossing routes inside the LBs. Other teams have used them often and we see one of our LB's chasing the TE or RB all the way across the field and cant keep up. Quick slants also work in the RZ.

1. Russell has morphed into some combination of Gary Gray, Clifford Jefferson, and Ambrose Wooden.
2. Nick Baratti, slap yourself HARD for that attempt.
3. Joe Schmidt, are you hurt?
4. David Grimes, best of luck.
5. Torii, impressive after the USC fumble.
6. Kizer, gamer and leader, gets better with each game. What a great run also.
7. Nick Martin, shameful lack of leadership for a captain.
8. Tough Temple team playing a Super Bowl. Great to find a way to win.

Temple Post Game

1. Team is mentally tough
2. Team is physically soft, especially on the lines
3. Kizer has done a great job
4. Pitt will do the same thing Temple did, drag ND into the sewer for a s-itfight that will last 60 minutes
5. Playoff talk should cool off, if not completely go away
6. Being 7-1 is remarkable considering how it has happened

I don't think that it is fair to say playoff talk should go away because they won a close game. Lot's of teams win tight games against inferior opponents and they are still under consideration. Temple is quite simply a tougher team than most of us are giving credit for, and they were undefeated until they played ND. Let's see how they do the rest of the way. Maybe they win 10 or more games? In 12' Pitt, BYU, and Purdue were nail biters, and I would take this Temple team over all three of them. There are still 4 very important games remaining in the schedule, and if there is a W next to each of them we are in great shape! If we keep winning, we should very much remain in consideration.

I mostly agree, except I think part of our physical softness is a product of mental softness, specifically early in games. I feel like we never get off the bus ready to dominate against inferior opponents. Then we toughen over the four quarters.

USC is the only game I can recall where that dynamic flipped.

Herbie kept saying how Temple can't go into power formations and expect to run on us because we're physically superior. The exact flipside of that is that WE should be able to get into power formations and push THEM around. Instead everything is on the periphery.

Very respectfully disagree. Our defensive line played lights out.

I expected Day to have a big year but Rochelle has been unreal. Great game by these guys and they've been anything but soft.

Offensive line could've played better obviously but Temple was selling out against the run. Tough to run against the box they had. ND still put up 24 points with two redzone turnovers against a really, really good defense.

Anyone know what happened between Luke and Rhule after KVR's pick? Saw a brief highlight, but wondered if there was a story.

Nah, we've had a couple of fast starts this year and then cooled off only to heat up again in the 4th. Virginia comes to mind.

Robinson plays the same position as Chris Brown.. Brown is playing so well, Robinson isn't on the field as much as last year. They looked for him in the end zone a couple times

Good point, perhaps I should have limited my comment to the offensive line, which really disappointed me last night. Sure they were running into the teeth of a stacked box, but the line just looked rather listless IMO on most plays, hardly in synch.

I digress, and now that an opportunity to lash out all the frustrations of last night have come and gone, onward to Pitt. 7-1 and top ten is a great place to be.

Temple really clutched and grabbed a lot last night, Refs gave them a long leash.

I still think our DBs don't turn their heads around and find the ball fast enough. Not sure if that is coaching or confidence but would like to see that corrected.

Temple's Defense made us one dimensional and kept the ball in front of them so we had to sustain long drives, no big plays. That is tough with a young QB, it was a good game plan and they executed it well.

I know the final score doesn't really reflect it but we dominated them offensively, those turnovers killed us in the Red Zone, convert those into 2 scores and its a different game.

Temple fans, were friendly while tailgating but come game time the ones near me were obnoxious and ignorant in the stands. I had to leave by end of 3rd qtr, I didn't want my kids near those idiots as my blood was boiling. I should have known better though, these are also Eagles Fans as well and as an Eagles Fan I know what to expect in the stadium...
Win is a win, Temple Defense is legit, disappointed we shot ourselves in the foot with turnovers but that Temple Defense is stout.

Move on.....#beatpitt

I was impressed with Temple, especially on D. Looked very athletic and disruptive.

Kizer is a stud.

At this point in BK's tenure, the constant redzone issues must be a schematic issue. I thought this year would be different with a true dual-threat guy at QB (Malik first but now Kizer). The offense has played great all year but something has to change in the redzone or it's going to cost us games.

I know our projected starter at TE is out but the production from that position seems to diminish every year. I'm not sure if it's Booker or other factors but it's not great.

I hope Day is okay, kid is a warrior.

All in all, good win against a good team. Gonna be tough to get up for a noon kickoff on Saturday against Pitt but these guys will find a way.

No way we're not a top 10 team?

We have one loss and that's to an undefeated Clemson team in a hurricane on the road.

We're essentially on our third string QB and RB coming out of spring.

We just beat an undefeated team on the road that was playing in the most important game in their HISTORY.

Bama lost to a bad Ole Miss team.

Stanford lost to a bad Northwestern team and they're currently losing to WSU.

We have the best loss of the one loss teams.

I'm not sure what's more depressing honestly, coming on this site after a loss or a win. You know how many teams show up and play their best game 13 times a year? Zero.

We didn't show up unprepared or not focused. Kizer made some costly mistakes against a really good defense.

Why not enjoy a win? I completely understand that's it's a board for expressing opinions and views but I honestly question how much football some of you watch and understand lol. Every single team in the country has games like this. Therefore, we are absolutely deserving of a top 10 ranking..... in my very humble and drunken opinion.

You aren't kidding. Wow. I usually think we have knowledgeable fans. However, reading the responses to this games makes me really question if some of you know much about football. Went into a hostile environment against a top ten defense, playing the biggest game in their history, didn't play perfectly clean, and still came out with a win. Not many teams would have escaped with a victory. Be proud of the win.

A win is a win great teams know how to win when games are on the line. I have two comments.
1. Joe Schimdt needs to be done, there is no reason why he is playing over Morgan or Martini. Over 20 missed tackles this year says enough.
2. Alize jones gets throw to once every other game. There is no reason why he shouldn't get 5-7 plays ran for him a game it would open up things for Fuller.

I understand what you are saying and the upset is always possible. But knowing that Temple gets the recruits who get NOs from Penn State, Pitt, Maryland, West Virginia, Rutgers and possibly Navy means that ND should not be in a competitive game with them.

Those recruits got "No's" when they were 17-18 year olds. Not this past fall.
