Every school has full control over their uniforms... not sure what you're getting at here. Nike doesn't say "you're sponsored by us, you have to wear this."

I had no clue how the uniform stuff works. I'm not exactly sure what the big deal is then if we go to a different company then.

For fans, mostly clothing & the look of the jersey on the pads... and maybe some crazier uniform ideas that ND would allow or shoot down.

I'm with ya old timer. BTW, it was 59,075 before the upgrade.

Rats! I should refrain from posting when I've given my proof reader and fact checker the day off ...

My memory ain't what it used to be. Apparently I've dragged a valuable memory or two to the trash and deleted them in error.

Anybody still complaining about the stadium expansion 15 years after the fact needs a rectal exam to find that pole. Boosting capacity by a third is nothing but a good thing. Do it again, eh?
On Nike vs. Adidas, I vote Champion. We were winners when we wore them.
On field turf, yes, please. Tired of watching receivers slip and fall.
On a jumbotron. OK, fine, but please do it right.

Butts in the seat, primo box or not are what pays the bills. When and if (a BIG if) a guarantee can be made that rabid, yelling, standing blonde hairs (in quantity enough) can afford to pay for tickets, travel and lodging I'll entertain the notions.

I'm 21 and live 560 miles away, and I'm good for a least two games a year. I'm on the list for season tickets, and like a lot of my friends, definitely can afford to pay for this trip at least a couple times a year.

Champion would be awful. Recruits like trendy companies, and Champion is not trendy. I would be all for a switch to Nike.

IMO there's really not a lot of difference. Our SS unis have been pretty nice and I really can't see Nike doing anything that would make everyone go wow! I think the public has been duped by the huge Nike marketing machine into thinking they are better than the rest. Don't get me wrong, they have produced some nice things, but they aren't heads and tails above everyone else.

Example.......New Balance makes a superior shoe to Nike, yet all the kids want to wear Nike. Why? Marketing!

I agree about nike. I personally don't like there shoes. They are comfortable to me and they are way over priced.

A) It is clear from the thread that the young IE whippersnappers get as crazy and vitriolic in their comments as the old ND guard at that other site; you just have to get the right topic. With the old guard it is rather myopic, anything ND. With the crowd here is - - - CLOTHING! (Sitting here enjoying myself.)

B) I have talked with people directly involved in the project. There is a lot of care and consideration going into the stadium plan. I think it will give more of the old-time feel. And of course that thing that will bring everyone on-board is that the seating total will go up, while the seats will still accommodate our fat asses better! And accessibility will be far better.

C) Remember, if the three or four flaws in the business model for ND football are corrected, and the best branded identity is allowed to run, there are people who will lose their whole hold on things. Their power will diminish, and so they have to fight tooth and nail. Look at the number of false rumors that have come out this year. If, Fr. Jenkins, Jack Swarbrick, and Brian Kelly, each succeed, together ND will step forward. This will hurt some parties quite badly.

Odd advertisement I just saw on my Pandora radio. I'm sure its just coincidence, but thought it was funny.

So apparently Champion (remember them?) has a new branding effort with the slogan "Play Like A Champion"...

Workout Clothes, Activewear and Sports Apparel for Men, Women & Kids | Champion

EDIT*** Ironically, this is now my banner ad on IE:

Did these people happen to mention a timeline? Are we talking this offseason? Some distant future? A phased approach?

If quality is equal or very close, "cool" is a perfectly reasonable tiebreaker. You WANT Nike's marketing machine because part of what you're signing up for is marketing your university's brand to 17 and 18 year-olds. There are probably headphones that are just as good as Beats by Dre, but they don't sell nearly as many or for the same price.

I think this thread said that consideration was to be made this winter, and it was a five to six year approach.

Someone else said that something would be done this next season. What is the life of turf? Five or six years? And what is the payback in ND's case? I wonder if this could be an intermediate renovation? Between now and the final stadium, who's planning may require a special surface consideration. And I think someone said that the cost of re-sodding the field to play on again, in season was astronomical.

If they follow the model of the last stadium increase, there will be low interest, tax free bonds issued, sold and repaid over the next thirty years. The positive cash flow projections from this will be out of sight. So this is not an overnight fix.

I don't know if I heard this right, but there may be some interest in opening up the North end of the stadium, to allow Touchdown Jesus to be more visible. So there is a lot to offer many with this project.

I guess if everyone wants to talk about fancy one game uniforms, but the stadium is the inadequate or obsolete in appearance the program isn't going to move forward. ND has the coaches, the Gug, the tradition, the backing, and the players. If football is a religion [sic], it is about the alter. Building a 21st century program, requires keeping up tradition, but accommodating the future.

I have mostly questions. But I listen closely, and at the SC game I was lucky enough to be seated in a very good place to hear.

Off-topic but funny- Wooly- That is not ironic that you see the same banner on ie as pandora. That is called retargeting in advertising terms. Is this the first time you have noticed an ad that was similar to a website you just visited? It gets pretty aggressive at times. Power of internet advertising. lol

On the stadium- It sounds like Nike is the front runner but definitely not a closed deal. Notre Dame is also listening to Under Armor. Not sure how much but they are def listening. Just my opinion but I would be surprised if we signed with UA.

I can't wait to see what a new stadium would look like! Please do not open it, just to see Touchdown Jesus. We need all the help we can get to keep the noise at a high level...especially when only half the stadium is screaming! Another section of box seats on the opposite side would help with keeping some more noise in.

I think they are smart to make the stadium an all purpose building but dont you think it would be wise to put a roof on it in order to use it during the winter? For being all purpose, it would only be used half the year otherwise. Can you imagine the outrage if a roof was added, although probably not feasible from an architecture standpoint.

Could you expound on that at all? You were seated next some NDers in the know?

Awesome info mate. Whats the source on this and the reliability? I would be crazy upset if we went with UA instead of Nike. I very much dislike UA, I think just because they come across as cheap in their ads and marketing.
I don't like the idea of a roof. It takes away the natural element of South Bend. Its cold and snowy in the winter…thats how it should be. But then again, to get the southern recruits, it could be huge to have it climate controlled.

Also whats the source on this? CG image by a fan?

and for the whole Nike marketing thing, reminded me of this song;

My source is a person that handles merchandise buying for the university. Pretty good source. Like I said though, he said they are just listening but it looks like Nike is the front runner.

With the roof, I love the natural elements of the South Bend weather too. Was just thinking that some of the powers to be would say if we are expanding so that we can use the stadium as an all purpose building, how are going to use it in the winter? I think the picture posted of the design answers some of those questions with the buildings that are connected.

This group was not from "ND." Represented a commercial interest. That's about all I want to say. Never saw them before, never will see them again.

Other than supplying the uni's, how much marketing does Nike really do for the schools?

HaHa.....I jokingly mentioned a dome on the stadium in the other thread similar to this one and got lambasted.

Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick Discusses Stadium Enhancements

From the interview:
-Playing surface to be addressed independent of stadium renovation... they're either digging up everything all the way down to the sub-soil and going natural grass, or they're going synthetic. They will not use a combo like Green Bay.
-January meeting with BoT to discuss what they've come up with, after that they will begin fundraising for it.
