So the Urban Meyer chase is on.

Why anyone thinks UM could actually be a success at ND with players who actually have to take real classes is out of their mind. Our players can't work out, practice, film study, etc, etc like the football factories who just play school.
Urban Meyer is a superior coach to BK so it's assumed he'd at least do marginally better than BK while here. He'd take us over the top at least once.

What if we have aspirations of Notre Dame winning a championship without a dirtbag for a head coach? Like, I’d have no hesitations about hiring Dabo Swinney.

Bruhhh....dont let the accent and "awe shucks" bit fool you.

I'm more worried about Koon's browser history ending up in my helmet and the fuzz eventually showing up and breaking down my door which ends in a gang tackle and I'm doing 30 hard time in Chino.

Whiskey will get that 30 into a 3 with good behavior if you confess to a priest all the crimes you didnt get caught doing.

Clemson stopped being "lolclemson" and became CLEMSON because they brazenly started buying players. This is well known. They even caught multiple kids flashing the cash.

Not to mention PEDs. You know, a quarter of the kids tested when before ND got housed last year. But nothing to see here, only a few blips on the drug screens.

Kelly would have the same results as Dabo or Saban with the same players they get. Dabo and Saban would have the same results as Kelly with the players Kelly gets. It's Jimmies and Joes...ND doesn't get enough of 'em period. A couple guys go down, get suspended, etc and we are screwed.

Yep, teams don't take that type of a leap that fast without some help. You think Bama got so good so fast was just Saban's coaching acumen?

No I don’t buy the “awe shucks” bit. Nor the “all praise goes to Jesus” baloney. I’m sure Dabo can be a stone killer when he needs to. Like all these guys. As for paying players, I assume that goes on at all major Southern programs and football factories.
My beef with Urban is ignoring the player felonies and the wife-beating coach. I don’t think you have to do that to win, and I don’t think Dabo does.
I’d also note Dabo has incredible loyalty among his assistants, and I think that’s a decent barometer of character. If the guy was a total dick, assistants would jump for better jobs. The fact that they don’t says something about the culture Dabo has built there. (Obvs they’re well-compensated, too).

If it was as simple as paying kids, why dont Ole Miss and South Carolina win more? Why aren’t Florida State and A&M better?

So, UC's AD, Mike Bohn, was supposed to be announced as USC's new AD on Monday.

Apparently, he's waffling on taking the job he was offered, because while finalizing a contract, USC's prez told him he couldn't hire Urban Meyer.

So it confirms that (1) USC wants to go in a more pure direction, and (2) apparently that Mike Bohn DOES want to try and make a run at Urban if he gets the job.

That goes against everything I've heard about Bohn. I'm wondering if he doesn't want to go to a place where he is not actually going to be running the athletic department to the full extent that he wants, or if the lack of 'autonomy' is a convenient excuse for "I really wanted to hire Urban Meyer."

I actually read the story a little differently. To me it was saying Bohn was waffling because he learned he wouldn't have free reign to hire a coach of his choosing (not necessarily that it needed to be Meyer).

I HOPE that's what it is, because I have a lot of respect for Mike Bohn and the way he's done things at UC.

But they should have discussed her input on coaching hires prior to their verbal agreement, which they obviously had in place... so either both sides miscommunicated badly, or Bohn REALLY wanted to go after Urban.

And people still want to pretend like USC is going to go all out to hire him, completely ignoring what's right in front of their faces. The president wants nothing to do with Urban Meyer.

That seems obvious but what's not so obvious is what big time boosters want and whether or not the president will capitulate to them. Money talks or something like that.

Some are better than others at playing the game. I'm not saying they aren't good coaches, because you can't win simply on talent. Clemson was a middlin' to decent program prior to Dabo, but they weren't rolling in elite athletes. He arrives and it's like they and Bama are taking turns picking who they want.

It was a slightly less drastic/brazen version of what Ole Miss did.

I used to have a soft spot for Clemson. They were like the Minnesota Twins of the early 2000's. Fun team. Some good players. But they weren't a threat to anything and got scared of their own shadow on the big stage.

Clemson didnt suddenly become the place to be via ethical means at all. When blue bloods get good suddenly, it makes sense. You probably got some high profile kids to want to be a part of bringing that school back to the top. Clemson doesnt have that history. No one wants to go to random school in a hick town in South Carolina.

My dad's cousin is in their football hall of fame. I'd love to sit down with him sometime, get him a bit lit, and ask him exactly what they are doing there.

I posted this before, but USC isn't just a football school. They take their academics seriously thus the changes since the scholarship scandal. USC has some big time athletic boosters, but I'm willing to bet they have some big time donors (think along the lines of Mendoza or DeBartola) on the academic side that probably contribute more than the athletic guys. Hiring UM might alienate some of these donors.

They also have very deep ties to the entertainment industry, where the whole Me Too movement has been kind of a thing, and you can bet some people will make a deal out of the Zach Smith situation. LA is not Columbus.

It took off when Dabo found a very giving church... or at least the church pastor at the time. I highly doubt Clemson is paying players now... they don't have to since they are winning. It will be interesting to see what happens if Clemson slips down a few years.

If Hollywood could deal with Bryan Singer, Harvey Weinstein, and other rapists being inside jokes for decades, I'm reasonably certain the Zack Smith thing wouldn't even register. Heck, Roman Polanski got a standing ovation for his work AFTER his drugging and raping of minors became public knowledge. You're right---LA isn't Columbus at all.

Hashtag Nation flipped your script on its head.

One of my Orange County posse is a Midwest guy whose kid played at SC. He does side work for one of the networks in board moderating. He said as soon as Folt was hired that there went any chance of SC returning to what they were because she had just finished up with the scandal/mess at North Carolina and the last thing she was going to do at SC was invite a walking scandal into the program. On top of that, the MeToo-ers own Hollywood and SC is Hollywood's junior college feeder. The last thing a female Prez an the Hollywood connected board will want is an abuser apologist/enabler/protector. He also added to the vocal alumni's credit... they sound like they are sick of being known as the dumb elite school who put athletics ahead of academics when ND & Stanford do it the right way. And this was all before the Varsity Blues dragnet caught all the SC cheats.

So no big surprise Urban's not the bullseye on SC's board.

Just like Kentucky basketball! Calipari had to get 'creative' his first two years on the job to play a bit of 'catch up,' but since then, he doesn't really need to do any of the old shady stuff.

Once they've got a competent coach and a good pipeline in place, UK sells itself.

Nike might be doing it's thing behind the scenes, but Cal doesn't need to know about it or facilitate it at this point, because he's going to get his guys either way.

ND fans better hope Bohn doesn't go after a disgruntled Brian Kelly. Watching him at a big time school with no recruiting restrictions would be scary, especially if it's a ND rival.
