I got pummelled for suggesting this move yesterday. Golden to PSU, followed by Franklin to Miami makes a lot of sense to me. I am going to find that thread.
The rule of thumb is that you don't transfer laterally UNLESS there is some big motivating factor. Dead-end, misery, money, or, here, because it is (possibly) your professional goal to coach at your alma mater.
On top of that, Miami is NOT a great job anymore because, despite the past, the school is no longer committed to winning at any cost. There is no doubt that the local talent is there in spades and that the school is in an incredible location (at least outside of the summer), but if you can't get those Miami-Dade kids in your school, you are left fighting for scraps with all the SEC and ACC schools after UF and FSU are done recruiting.
Miami's recent lack of success is a result of the school turning away from football, at least to the degree that it is on par with the rest of the ACC. In that situation, I think I hyper-motivated recruiter like Franklin who really wants to get out of Vanderbilt is just what the doctor ordered.
