I'm still dumbfounded by some of the expectations for Alize on here.

You're willing to write him off, after his first game in two years?

Maybe he's rusty and anxious? Is it possible that he's emotional right now? Let the game settle and the player take over.

Let's give the kid a larger sample size than 6 targets before we write him off.

I'm going to laugh once he has first break out game lol.

The bottom line is that he has not done what he has supposed to have done up until he was finally cleared. Physically he looks the part, but mentally there is cause for concern. His off- the field problems are clearly ones we all hope he has moved on from... on the field we have one game and he didnt seem to be fully in the game in multiple aspects. Caution is advised. I dont think anyone is going to be mad when they are proven wrong.

This. No one is happy Mack is struggling. But the board is understandably in a "show me" mode after his off the field issues and his lack of production thus far.

The much maligned Paul Finebaum was just on Mike and Mike giving his two cents, and he was in favor of the good guys! Shocker!.... He said something along the lines of...."I guess i'm still old school, but for a true freshman to come in to Notre Dame Stadium, AT NIGHT... I just think that's too much, I like ND in this one"

This is why I don't buy the comparison to Kizer. DK had at least been in stadiums, on the sideline, for big games prior to coming in at VA. This kid has no idea what it's like playing at ND, at prime time, with 80K sets of eyes squarely on him. I like our chances and agree with Paul Finebaum(I just threw up in mouth...)

Finebaum knows the shit out of college football and he's not nearly the SEC homer he's accused of being. Obviously, the SEC is his focus and the conference with which he is most familiar, but his analysis has always struck me as fair.

Georgia by 14 or more unless we force 2 or more turnovers. Bet's closed - already bet with greyhammer.

Damn Koon, has your glass always been half empty?

Give Mack a second game before declaring him a complete failure. I'm guessing if you went without sex for about a year and a half, you wouldn't be hitting on all cylinders the first time back. It'd be over and you'd be laying there thinking to yourself, "Damn why didn't I use my "go to" move? I'll be ready the next time."

Reasons ND can win:
Better O
Improved D
UoG o-line aren't world beaters
UoG QB position in flux.
Renewed focus this year by ND.

Twice in BK's 7 years has ND won as many games as I predicted. So if anything, I overestimate our team on the reg.

I don't think I said anything about Mack? But I always go more than 1.5 years without sex and have yet to develop a go to move other than PIHIB.

Had questions on non-freshman who didn't play this past Saturday...

QB Ian Book RS FR (Wimbush played the whole game)
RB Deon McIntosh RS FR
WR Miles Boykin RS SO
WR Jahvon McKinley SO
WR Kevin Stepherson SO (Suspended)
OL Jimmy Byrne RS JR
OL Trevor Ruhland RS SO
OL Liam Eichenberg RS FR
DL Pete Mokwuah RS JR
DL Elijah Taylor RS SO (Injured)
DL Micah Dew-Treadway RS SO (Injured)
DB Nicco Fertitta JR

Am I missing injured players? If not, What's going with Boykin and McKinley (redshirting?)? Is McKinley just redshirting and Boykin not playing well? And what's the deal with not playing Eichenberg? I thought he was in the running to start and he didn't make the special teams unit? And lastly, Why didn't Fertitta play? He's been on special teams from day one

Last time a SEC team played in South Bend was in 2005 when Tennessee came into town. I'm not sure if it was SEC officials though.

Last I checked, visitors bring the officials, home team picks the replay crew. As for having an SEC crew, they just have to be better than ACC refs, and thats a low bar to clear.

Yeah, it would have been an SEC crew at home in 2005. I was at that game, it was pretty awesome. The officials were pretty fair, but then again we were beating up on the Vols pretty good. Quinn and Samardzija played very well, and Zibby had probably one of his best games returning both a Punt for a TD and an INT:

Fun little fact, Jim Bob Cooter (Can't get a more Tennessee name than that lol), who was referenced twice in the video, is the OC for the Detroit Lions now.

I'm sure everyone here hopes he has a great rest of the season. But he stuck out like a sore thumb.

Here, I'm going to go play by play with him and see what happens.

Notable plays with Time stamps from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8_Iy-varX0

20:30 Deep out, wasn't open, bad throw by Wimbush
21:00 Could have fought harder for the ball, more of a good break by the CB though
26:45 Pulls and throws a good block (+)
29:25 Yikes, plays patty cake instead of blocking someone. (-)
46:30 Poor block, his man makes the tackle (-)
47:10 Solid catch and run for 9 yards (+)
47:35 Soft/Crappy chip on the DE causes Wimbush to be pressured immediately (-)
1:04:00 and :30 Makes 2 decent blocks on DE's
1:15:00 Bad drop on a simple out (-)
1:18:00 Not an easy play, but makeable. Drops a potential TD, didn't elevate to the ball to protect himself, takes a shot for it (-)
1:40:10 decent block
1:45:45 Good block to spring Jones (+)
2:00:50 Looks like he didn't know the playcall, doesn't block anyone (-)
2:01:20 Poor job on the screen (-)
2:05:20 Incomplete, bad throw by Wimbush
2:06:15 Bad block helps Jones to get stuffed on 4th down (-)
2:14:05 Short gain

Total:
Meh plays: 7
Positive plays: 3
Negative plays: 8

Damn, knew he had a bad game, but that's pretty telling. Looks like he didn't have his head in the game and wasn't prepared. Even if you flip a few "Meh" plays to positive, that's not a very consistent performance.

I'm cross posting this from the Temple postgame thread because it gives a good view of what we saw defensively:

A couple things to point out:

D Hayes and Okwara each had a sack, which falls in line with that Kelly was saying about their ability to disrupt the QB. Coney added the other and he looked reborn.

We had 11 tackles for loss, last year we had 61 total over 12 games which comes out to almost exactly 5/game. Major improvement. Coney and Trumbetti tied for the lead with 1.5 each.

Lord Myron, D Hayes, J Hayes and Okwara comprised the other DL players who each had a TFL.

It wasn't perfect and we'll face stiffer competition but most would call that a "good start".

Last year, we only held two teams below 100 yds rushing: MSU and NCSt.

There is vast improvements from last year. That doesn't guarantee a W Saturday but it does give us a reason to hope.

Hearing that song makes me miss the old Rivals message board.

Drive charts for Georgia/App State show:
QBs Other than Fromm Participating in Drive -- 4 punts, 2 interceptions... 74 yards over 6 drives = 12 yards of offense per drive.

Drives with Fromm as sole QB -- 4 TDs, 1 FG, 1 punt... App State only stopped them once with Fromm running the show. Now, Fromm only did the heavy lifting on two of those drives but simply put the offense was immeasurably more efficient with him at the helm.

Yeeeeaaahhh..... but it was App St after the starters started getting worn down. The depth of the two teams isn't comparable and regardless of who was at QB, they were going to lean on the weight of the talent discrepancy into a win here. I think Eason would have done the same thing if he wouldn't have gotten hurt.

Eason has a played a lot of games, so I will take a freshman in his first start in Notre Dame stadium over a former 5 star QB with a year of SEC experience under his belt.

That all being said, the "Eason has played in big games" comments are actually pretty off base. Don't get it twisted, this would be the biggest game of Eason's career too. Here is his game log.

Georgia N North Carolina W

Georgia Nicholls State W

Georgia @ Missouri W

Georgia @ Mississippi L

Georgia Tennessee L

Georgia @ South Carolina W

Vanderbilt L

Georgia N Florida L (neutral site and lost)

Georgia @ Kentucky W

Georgia Auburn W (good win)

Georgia Louisiana-Lafayette W

Georgia Georgia Tech L

Georgia N Texas Christian* W (Bowl game, but TCU finished 6-7 on the season)

Georgia Appalachian State W

I wouldn't say that his experience is filled with much bigger games than what he would be playing next week in South Bend.

I get what you are saying and that the team performed better with him in. That said, we should expect UGA to get better as the game goes on for three reasons....

1) First game, teams either come out smokin or take time. We will never know how the team would have performed with Eason, so this is anecdotal at best.

2) Adjustments. UGA was going to respond one way or the other with scheme.

3) Depth. No way that App state was going to be able to match UGA here and we should expect UGA to dominate as the game went on.

In short, I would expect UGA to get stronger as the game progresses, no matter the QB. We will just have to wait and see how this progresses.

The UT / UGA game was huge, from the standpoint that UGA needed that to remain in SEC east discussion. Big game atmosphere against a team that was top 10 at the time. UGA and UF is always big too no matter the records, like USC ND is big.

I think those two games are immeasurable experience, but neither was a true road game tho.

I can understand how some thing we'd be better off against Eason, but I don't, at all. I think we just got handed a golden ticket that we need to cash.

Even the most talented QBs in the world (outside of Rosen probably), don't light it up their true freshman year. And if they do, it's not against the better opponents.

Not only does he not know the entire playbook, he hasn't been taking the majority of the 1st team snaps with the starters. He has to be in sync with his OL, TEs, RBs, and WRs.

He's never played a good opponent, much less a game outside of his home state.

Even if we don't win this game - there will be times where we slow Georgia's momentum with a sack/TFL/Interception/3 and out/false starts/delays of game/etc. Who do you think responds to those situations better in a huge night game on the road? Eason, who's seen it? Or an 18 year old playing his starting his first game?

Give me Fromm all day, I don't care how many ducks he landed against an inferior team in his home stadium where he faced NO adversity.

I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew, and after thinking about how crazy it is to expect a true freshman to carry the team on the road when he's just found out he's starting, I think the Irish can win.

I regret my bet with greyhammer, but I will follow through with it if Georgia wins by 13 or less.

Go Irish. Fvck Fromm.

Yeah - looking at last year's production by UGA and seeing they have a lesser OL this year..... They topped out at 35 points last year (against a D-II opponent) and went to the wire vs Nicholls in week 2. They lost their homecoming game in Athens to Vanderbilt 16-17. Back out their D-II record and they were 6-5 last year without facing Bama or LSU...

I am marking all this UGA fear up to SEC myth more than reality.

i noticed Bobby Reagan took Nico's spot on the Kickoff team

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Nicco suspended for the first half due to his BS targeting call against USC in the season finale? If you get ejected in the second half of the last game of the season, and you still have eligibility you are automatically suspended for the first half of the season opener.

Total shyt.
