Debatable.

What's the point of playing him, so he can learn how to hand the ball off properly? He will certainly get a chance to sling it a little bit if they put him in there.

They won't air it out, but they'll allow him to get some looks at a collegiate defense, IMO

I think they would let him sling it a bit

having a bunch of starters on kickoff was probably the reason they didnt rep it in practice

I actually don't care if Phil gets in. I want Book to get as many looks as possible, because he'll be needed this year.

Ideally, BW is out at halftime and Book gets 3rd and Phil gets 4th, but this could be a playoff year and we have a QB that is going to take at minimum 12 hits a game. Book needs to be ready to rock and not skip a beat.

If we see Phil it'd because we're up big, which means you won't see him throwing much.

Debatable.

I didn't say he wouldn't throw it. I just said you won't see him throw it much which is basically what you said. lol

Agree with this. Book needs the reps so he can help this team if Wimbush goes down against Stanford. Phil can get them next year if he earns them. Best case scenario is a bunch of drives with Book, and a few near the end for Phil just to get a feel.

Someone else said it, but really hope to see C'Bo in this one.

Very curious to see his running style in action.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised if theres more Ball State fans this week than Michigan fans last week. A lot of BSU alumni in the area and Indiana in general.

Surprised Bracy cracked the two deep. I would let Griffith play wherever in the secondary.

As bad as BSU was last season...and they were putrid, they really can attribute much of their failures to injuries. The QB led them to 2-1 record before going down for the season...they never won another game. They have three solid to really good RBs.

Factor in human nature of a bunch of 18-22 year olds & it’s predictable that Ball State plays out of their mind while ND works thru a Michigan hangover before pulling away in the 2nd half. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if Wimbush doesn’t start the 3rd quarter.

This game scares me more than last week. I’ve been on this board for 9 years and I dread these games more than any other. Not because I think we will lose but because there’s so little to gain. We beat Ball State...ehhh who cares we allow Ball State to do what Tulsa, USF, and Navy have done and it’s brings upon the worst we can possibly imagine. I just want a win and a healthy game and I hope our boys aren’t overlooking them after a big win over a rival.

Insane stuff can happen see: App. State, but you shouldn't dread a game against Ball State. There are lots of things to gain. Rest for our starters, experience for backups, time to work on small details that will be needed in bigger games.

The games you should hate are games against teams like Northwestern. Why are we scheduling these? What do they do for us? Just let us play a cupcake.

My key-don't have those back to back poor no drives and get up early and stay with it. This is probably a typical mac team well coached game and looking for an opening to stay close and see what happens. Should be able to run the ball after getting up early so just do it--dangerous game.

Sept 8 | Ball State

My day:

1. Feel program is turning a corner and forging ahead

2. Develop sense of belief and confidence in team

3. See Ball State on schedule

4. Wet pants

Some clarification:

-Ball State hasnt had a winning season in like 5 years. They are EASILY the least scary opponent ND has had in DECADES. The only one I can think of that comes close is Rutgers back in the late 90s. They were awful too.

-Appy State is the kind of program that has a smattering of SEC level players from big football cities and big football states.
Ball State is the kind of program that has a smattering of MAC level players from cities that look like the one in the movie Footloose.

-Injuries can happen ANY game. Why would the BALL STATE game be the one you circle and start doing a rosary for safe player passage?

I feel like this is a game where BK will take pity and ease up after being up 49-7. Then we'll give up two garbage TDs and the rest of the country will talk shit about how we only won by 28.

I would imagine Long will start pounding the ball a little, then go for the jugular. Get up big and then work on BW's passing with backs coming out of the backfield.

Look, I'll be the first one to eat crow if this game is somehow close, but anyone who is actually typing/saying the words "Ball State makes me nervous" needs to take a lap.

I don't see how this is anything other than what we did to Miami OH last year.

FEI predicts a 47-7 Irish victory with 99% certainty of at least winning outright.

Now now now...If Lorena Bobbit was in the room you too might be nervous about your Ball State
