Book needs to open up the run by using the whole field early and the defense needs to slow the run down enough that they get in to 3rd and long with some regularity. Defense can give up some yards but needs to stuff them enough to stall out drives and force passing. I have a hard time believing we won't run straight in to a loaded box to start the game with a couple of 3&outs. Only saving grace is UGA is highly likely to do the same thing.

We really need to win this game for the good of all college football. The SEC is insufferable and we can come close to hamstringing damn near the entire conference with a win.

This is going to happen.

Just in case anyone was wondering, I am NOT going to this game. So it won't be a gut-wrenching loss. You're welcome.

If Long installs the "Book Dart-Thrower" offense as we have seen Ian can do, and if Lea adjusts well enough to limit their running, we win. I call BS on our team automatically being intimidated by the away stadium. Teams are vastly different year-to-year on that. My brother's old VT team used to love the jacked-up environments. He said: the energy really made me want to clobber someone. "Home stadium advantage" should reduce to only crowd noise when you're trying to snap the ball. ... unless you're weak-minded (his words, and I agree.)

We can beat these guys but we need a keep-it-going style short passing competent offense (which frustrates DLines and basically entire defenses.) TTTommy says you have to bring a QB. I agree. If we run Book's offense then we're bringing one, and he'll be better than theirs. Lea and the Boys have to do their part stopping Swift of course. But we beat Fournette not long ago, when we weren't supposed to (and although this Georgia is (allegedly) better than that LSU, we're better too. (no "allegedly")

You are considering a road win against a 6-7 team as "proof" that ND is capable of winning at UG. At the time, we all thought VA Tech was legit because they beat a fraudulent FSU team a few weeks before. That V Tech game was about as good of a win as the Temple win.

Our QB is better now, sure, but isn't their QB better now too? Wasn't that Fromm's first start? I'm pretty sure he is a much better QB now.

IIRC, they went downhill after our Irish beat them, thus killing their season until they pulled out a couple of wins to close the season.

We can tit for tat all day long. I just think we are better than most think.

If ND somehow pulls the upset I don't see a team on our schedule that should even compete with us besides Michigan.

The only hope I have is that I’m feeling the same way about this game that I did going into Oklahoma in 2012.

“We’re good but they’re better.”

I’ll be thoroughly sauced & amped up for it regardless.

I don't care what sticker is on the side of the helmet. But this I know. If you are going in to a top 5 team's backyard to play them, you HAVE to run the football and you have to have great to elite QB play to have a chance. How you get there is what's important. I would spread them out to start the game and hope Book can make enough throws to keep them honest. Then try to use the gaps created to run the ball when you can. The offensive play calling at that point has to be adjusted as Kirby and crew will adjust to that. If you see ND in 2nd and long too much midway through the second quarter, then the adjustments are coming too late.

On defense, the Irish have to stop the run. Sell out and hope the less experienced Ga WR's can't create enough space one on one to make enough plays. Fromm isn't elite, but he's pretty good. If he gets in a groove, he's good enough to make you pay again and again.

There is a path to victory for the Irish, but it's a small path. Try to keep it close, hope Kirby reverts back to sandbagging his offensive playcalling a bit - he does that in bigger games in which he is leading - and then steal a few possessions with a turnover or two and that path gets a little wider for the Irish. it's a tall order but not impossible.

Agree with all of this. I just think we somehow, miraculously, grow up on national TV.

If ND somehow pulls the upset it will make a ton of shit talk go away. You want to quit hearing the media & the SEC mock ND...beat UGA. I can’t think of a bigger win since beating FSU in 1993 if they can beat UGA this Saturday night.

I'm not trying to say Athens is one of the top hostile environments or anything--it's not. But night games after Gameday tend to be the most rowdy because people are the drunkest they will ever get for a game.

The loudest ND games are at night for the same reason and we don't have a hostile environment either.

It's a huge factor, even if its not Death Valley.

One of the loudest games for ND was the Stanford 2012 game in the rain and a 3:30 start. It's all about timing and how the officials allow the first 5 series go.
Night or day I think we shall win the hearts of Georgia fans and they all start acting like leprechauns by the 4th quarter. Kinda like Rocky 4

I noticed Griffith didnt get in til like the fourth on Saturday.. He hasn't played much all year. Did I miss something?

He was hurt in fall camp. I bet he is a little behind. The team is pretty banged up at some key spots. I'm not sure if it's bad luck or if they've had a physical camp. All in all, we need everyone locked in on Saturday.

If anyone grew up in the 90s, I kind of envision this game going down like Iceland vs Team USA (first game) in Mighty Ducks 2. Bilal and White trying to shed blocks against this O line will be like 14 year old Averman taking a faceoff against a dude who was about 6'3" 240

I've been growing up since the mid to late 70's and the 90's gave me a loss of innocence... I love the 90's.
I love our last National Championship '93. FSU and Ole Bobby will always know who smacked em' in the mouth.
Mighty Ducks 1 was good from my last memory. Never watched part 2

This (x 1000000). I believe the SEC is a complete joke other than the top few teams. Ridiculously overrated and beat each other “proving how good they are” with quality losses. I’m not saying it’s 100%, but it’s insane to think that Florida team is top 10. Only because of their conference in my view. The SEC east is hot garbage and GA should easily run away with it. The big problem is Bama, GA and the like seem to never leave their part of the country and challenge themselves. They beat up on Savanna St and East Mississippi Tech Western School for Blind Geriatrics, get through their super awesome slate of Vandy, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miss St, etc and act like they’ve beaten the best. Nicky Saban can claim nobody will play them (proven wrong almost immediately by Troy btw), but nobody with any intellectual honesty believes that nonsense. The truth is,it’s a game (the schedule/conference stuff) and it’s a game Bama has been playing expertly for years. They’re gaming the system and GA is learning (although kudos for this current home and home with ND).

I’m not saying Bama hasn’t been the best team many years, because they have been. I’m just saying their path is artificially inflated to be more daunting than it is in reality. All of this will be proven somewhat if ND can win. If ND lays an egg, it’ll stick (fairly or not) for a decade or better. It’s time to prove that the SEC is overrated and there’s good football outside of the south (and OSU).

You'd think so, but they've been doing this to us for awhile now. Not saying we've notched a ton of big wins, but when we do..."Oh, so and so is down this year, they're not the team we thought they were." The alternative is, "This game doesn't mean much for them, they still have {insert conference championship} to play for, or they weren't really invested in this bowl game." Now, if we start winning games like this with some consistency, then the narrative certainly changes.

I must break you. Rocky IV may not be the best, but it's my favorite.
That said, there's no chance we bring down the Iron Curtain in Athens  That crowd will give us hell till the clock says 00:00.

I agree with ya. The SEC schedules easy joker teams in order to stay healthy. Bama Is a joke and Clemson, OSU, Georgia are followers. Nobody wants to admit this fact.

They go to the junior Olympics or something repping team USA. They grab a few kids from around the country to tie up loose ends in their roster.

Iceland is the top dog. Yes, Iceman. The Island country of like 250,000 people. Wolf "The Dentist" Stansen and Gordon Bombay have some beef from their time in minor league hockey. The Dentist ended Bombay's career.

Long story less long. Bombay starts hooking up with the Iceland team doctor, the rough upstarts from the country of 300,000,000 people overcome the odds and defeat the dynasty that is Iceland. The Dentist likely resigns in shame following the film.

The Iceland guys probably skip juniors and go straight to the NHL. Team made the Soviet teams of old look small and slow. This team really had it all. Cant stress enough the size advantage. Notre Dame should hire their strength coach if hes still around.

To be fair, there's a big perception difference between beating 8-4 LSU in the Citrus Bowl and going into a Top 5 SEC team's stadium and taking one from them.
But, yeah, if we do win, it'll be "Well, Georgia's focused on the title that really matters: The SEC." Then, if Georgia loses a second, we'll hear "Them Irish didn't dare play Florida tho."

I see some of us catching on. This Is not a public service announcement, but our recruiting Is affected by these things solely and absolutely. It's a stab at the heart of Good people.

ND can win.

Gonna be an uphill battle. At least ND has played a game against P5 players. And on the road.

We all know Georgia has their own very well documented struggle with performing in big games. It's not like ND is going down to Tuscaloosa.

I think the negativity overrunning the board comes from 3 mindsets, which are not necessarily exclusive:

1) Part fact. We are double digit underdogs. That usually goes poorly.

2) Part guarding hearts against hoping so you can't be hurt. "If I keep reminding myself we are going to lose, this will sting less."

3) Part wanting to gain some perverse enjoyment of the likely loss by being able to claim that at least you were correct in your assessment. The dark side of the ego and the id, but this definitely happens.

Also history. These road matchups rarely go well for us.

If I keep reminding myself that I'm going to die. It still doesn't change that fact; yes I am.. Time to put your big boy pants on.... Just a recommendation from circa.
