To be fair, in terms of talent relative to their respective positions, Finke >>>>> Schmidt -- and it's not really close

Respectfully disagree.

Schmidt worked his tail off to become an uber productive Mike. He was outstanding in every game he played his jr year until the injury.

But post injury he was a full step slower and struggled to keep up. But despite his struggles, he still posted strong stats.

I am a huge Schmidt fan, because of the work he put in to become the defensive MVP on a team with Jaylon.

Finke in all likelyhood will be a productive bit player in the offence, not its MVP.

Hope you're right. I don't have the energy for a street fight today.

This is a classic rout IMO. Tough loss against a pretty good opponent. We are clearly the better team with a much improved defense since last we saw them.

I'll be seriously disappointed if we don't take them to the woodshed.

And this is why ND will continue to be a slightly above average team that gets trounced by USC 4 out of every 5 years.

"What famous line did Lou Holtz say when asked in 1978 if recent losses in injuries to the team would cause him to make adjustments?"

This game will tell us a lot about who this team is. The Temple game was not a good measuring stick and we do not know who Georgia is yet. Now we will see if this team has improved and how much they have improve over last year.

That's not talent though. Schmidt was a productive LB in 2014 because he was instinctual and a quality leader. He made up for his lack of talent and size with great fundamentals and intangibles.

In 2015, he became a step slower, and he wasn't overly fast to begin with.

Finke has the kind of talent you want as a slot receiver. Fast, plays great in space and catches the ball well. He may not be a Percy Harvin, but he can get the job done.

Calling Finke a much superior talent to Schmidt is similar to saying Denison is a far better option than Kelly.

There is just no basis for that comment.

14-9 all time in the series... crazy when you figure how often ND is favored.

Yes there is. Schmidt for being as well equipped mentally, didn't possess the physical traits or the talent of a major college LB. The guy was about 5'11 225 as a MLB and wasn't going to blow people away with his speed or strength.

Finke possesses the physical traits for the slot position. Yes, it's apples to oranges, but Finke has what you need from a talent perspective to be a good slot receiver. Schmidt didn't have that, but he made up for it by being as fundamentally sound as remotely possible, while also being a great leader.

Is my TV audio ahead a bit or have there been a lot of early whistles? That Okwara whistle especially.

Lol, of course ESPN shows the press conference. People freak out over anything BK does.
