I am now firmly convinced this guy is fully entrenched within the ND Adminstration Power Circle:

Are honor committee hearings/meetings open to the public? Are the accused present or does the committee consider the evidence privately?

I'm pretty sure they are private at every university. They are far different from a civil proceeding in that and many other ways.

It was beautiful out today and I went to the beach with my wife. We're going to Yosemite in 2 weeks.
I doubt that is relevant to the OP but this thread seems to be a free form stream of consciousness group therapy so I thought I'd inject some positivity into the thread.

What is your argument? The students are being subjected to policies that they agreed would govern this aspect of their lives when they became students. If everything is applied in the way it was agreed upon---even-handedly---I'm not sure what the case would be for the injustice dealt.

I'd like to see the process be made quicker too, but in an institutional, policy-based way that makes sure this limbo is minimized for everyone---fairly. I can imagine that this process is painful and involves a great deal of heartache, but that's no different from anyone else going before a jury/panel/judges, etc.

Since you like to use the term student....
Honest questions:

How many of these 5 young men would be students at ND if they weren't playing football? (I don't follow recruiting very much, so I don't know their individual academic situations)

How many students that don't play football would have their pictures posted on TV, newspapers and the internet under headlines that said "Academic Improprieties" for 25 + days?

My argument would be that they are brought here under special circumstances, everything they do is subject to special circumstances, not only university or family scrutiny, but public scrutiny far beyond the normal student. No matter how much Notre Dame kool-aid we drink, they are not normal students.

The university and the NCAA should not be allowed to use special circumstances only when it benefits them in obtaining players. If they are going to hold players accountable in such a public way, they need to do it expeditiously.

If they haven't done anything wrong, they are owed a huge apology.

Love Yosemite. It's a great time of year to go too. There shouldn't be as many idiots there as usual.

You're right that football players - even at Notre Dame - get all sorts of privileges not afforded normal students, including in many cases admission and a full scholarship to a university they otherwise wouldn't be in position to attend. The flip side of those privileges is that they're subjected to a higher level of publicity and public scrutiny than most, too. That's the nature of the beast. No one's forcing them to play big-time college football.

Notre Dame probably made a mistake in naming the players - though they only did so in response to reports that were already public.
But the players did a lot more harm to themselves by getting involved in this situation than Notre Dame is doing them by treating them just as it would any other student, i.e. letting the normal disciplinary process run its course instead of expediting it just because it's football season and these are football players (nine months of the year no one would even notice if they were suspended). At some level this is about the integrity of the university, which is a much bigger deal that Davaris Daniels missing the Michigan game.

So is the investigation over for all the students or just the players? Honestly, I'm in the group that believes they should expedite the process for the players. There's no reason to keep them in limbo any longer if all information has been gathered on them, be it incriminating or not.

Honestly, this administration is trying my patience. Begin the hearings or pack your sh*t and leave.

I live near Yosemite, currently another big fire. Could be closed in two weeks. Keep a check on it.
