Then prepare for Duke results. CFB is dirty and cutthroat. Values aren't rewarded today. I might be getting too negative. But college football isn't made for Notre Dame if this is how we want to operate. Kids today, and their parents for that matter, don't give a shit about values. It's all talk.

Well, it sells to a certain set of folks out there and has taken a doormat program to the edge of the top 25, not to mention the exciting Chick-fil-a loss to Johnny Football to end last year. Cutcliffe is a good coach of high character.

If a crap program can use "character" to become competitive, maybe we can rustled up 20-25 high character kids out of the top 300 recruits in the country with some consistency.

I agree with you. But do we really need to be that good, at one spot with three guys almost as good ready to step in, and a coaching staff that can make adjustments for that?

I agree looking back, that Kelly's press conference the other day, with the Golson news is more media management. It has all of the signs. Great news, ND qb announced, big media event. Look at rising underclassmen, especially at the same positions as some of these guys. Kelly was not happy with IWilliams. Kelly hasn't said boo about DD all camp. Made excuses for him not contributing. Of course, not a word about KMoore.

The outlier was that Kelly named KRussel and CRiggs starting cornerbacks!

On your last point...he didn't really have a choice. Russell is too good to not mention and the official decision by the University probably hadn't been made yet. I think he purposely didn't mention the others throughout preseason camp.

On your first point...I don't think any of the others are "almost as good". KVR is a special talent that could change the way BVG called a defense. Of course adjustments will be made and I think Luke/Butler are starting caliber players, but I'm certainly not as confident as I have been leading up to this season. We'll be okay and hopefully this news galvanizes the team.

1. This news should have its own thread. 2. Is it confirmed that a press release is coming at 3pm?

I agree. This all may have been part of the leadership disease last year. With Riggs and all the corner backs play this year we will be okay. Ishaq is replaceable. Getting Fitts would be ironic, and answer the question, "does he Fitts better in Williams spot?" Daniels, all the talent, little of the output. I can live with CBreezy and crew! I don't think they will miss a beat. I bet a dime to a dollar Brent eclipses Daniels overall, college and pro, anyways! Moore is Moore.

May end up being better, because Seriously, I think the board is right, and I think Rochell is rising to the start. Trumbetti moving forward puts Okwara in play for playing where he needs, and we have Jay Hayes for depth.

I gotta say, this kind of post just drives me nuts.

A best case scenario is that the facts aren't right and this turns out to be misinformation. If this happens, things are not better - they are the same.

A likely scenario is that we just lost 2 of our best 3 or 4 players for the year, our lock-down CB combo is over, our defensive scheme has to change, our DL is now even thinner than it was, and our only pass catcher who has actually caught some passes is gone. In no way is it possible to say that the team "may end up being better." The team, under this scenario, is much much worse.

A worst case scenario is that this shit is really bad, in which case the consequences are longer-term, the possibility of Kelly bolting arises, even wins vacated, etc. All blatant and poorly disguised defense mechanisms aside, I've got that familiar sick feeling...

I think the worst case would be that BK knew about it........

Not saying he did or I think he did, but that would be the worst case.

ESPN is going to have a field day with this regardless of the severity of the punishment.

I've brought this up a few times here in discussions about the "Power-5", new post-season, etc... I don't see how ND can both remain competitive with such mercenary programs and retain its integrity in the long-term. We'll either have to sell-out, or resign ourselves to a lower level of competition (hopefully in a conference with like-minded schools).

I agree.

This is basically a Duke type program now. You'll never be elite if you're kicking your best players off the team every year.

Dunbar situation was compounded by her being labeled a "booster" given her $10 donation to the Friday quarterback club lunches (her and her 3000 closest friends of the university). That was the pure BS of that situation and the NCAA should have gotten a flag for targeting.

Other than that, it was a case of someone dating football players and buying them stuff, which was acceptable from a compliance standpoint. Her buying stuff from embezzled company funds is not a good thing but on Dunbar, not the players that knew nothing of the transgression.

All in, that was an f-ed up affair and looks like child's play compared to the screwed up stuff we see today.

Let's be honest. This would be big news if it happened anywhere.

ND is kicking anyone out who wouldn't have gotten kicked out of Alabama.

Honestly only thing that bothers me out of all this is Russel if true. Robinson, Brent, Holmes, Fuller, Brown I think are all better than Daniels and more dangerous, Moore not a loss at all, Ishaq has underperformed now its an opportunity for all the freshman DL and sophmore guys to step up and get playing time. Russell stings more than anything but I don't think we were going to make a serious run at a Championship this year anyways. Next year is the year. Let these freshman and sophmore take their bumps and play and let them turn into men. Riggs, Butler, Luke, and Watkins will all step up and play.

Couldn't make this shit up. It's literally Kim Dunbar 2.0. Almost the exact same scenario, except she was a townie looking to exchange gifts and vacations for sex, instead of a tutor handing out papers for the same.

I disagree.

Dunbar was serial groupie that dated players over a couple of years something like the Susan Sarandon character in Bull Durham. She lavished gifts on several of them and had a baby with one. BUT she was NOT an employee of the university. Holtz had an investigation and found no NCAA violation. BUT the NCAA came to a landmark decision finding her a "booster" because she was a member of the QB Club and paid 10 or 25 bucks to defray the cost of QB Club mailings. The nominal mailing charge was the key factor in declaring her a booster. ND lost two scholarships and went on NCAA probation.

A tutor in the ND tutoring program is an employee and it would be an NCAA Infraction. The actual sex part is a ND parietal/du Lac issue not NCAA. The academic fraud and bartering for such with an employee would raise the dreaded Lack of Institutional Control issue.

Half a dozen of Ara's players were suspended for pulling a train with a consenting coed. NOT an NCAA infraction but Ted/Res Life invited them to spend a semester away from ND.They were readmitted and went on to play football in subsequent years.

Around '98 or '99 backup QB Eric Chappell was found to have had a female tutor write one of more papers for him in exchange for player comp tickets which if I recall correctly he told her she could sell. I've used player comp tickets. There's a detailed I.D./Sign-in Procedure to preclude abuse of those tickets. The players are counseled about the uses and abuse of comp tickets. It was an accident. ND self reported that issue. It was a minor NCAA infraction but if I recall correctly both Chappell and the tutor got to finish their education at a different school at ND's direction.

Elam and 3 others were accused of rape/sexual battery. They claimed it was consensual. She didn't. Only oneperson actually went to trial and was convicted of a lesser charge. The D.A. then dropped the prosecutions of the other 3. Nonetheless, ND expelled all 4. One or two were a couple of weeks from graduation when tossed. There were No NCAA Infractions but expulsions nonetheless.

Considering the UNC fiasco, and ND's own record of dealing with transgressions, I would expect ND to self report and take stiff action IF THE RUMORED papers for sex with a tutor is true. I would expect them all to be out of school and ND offering a scholarship or two reduction. I'd also expect that after a semester they would be eligible to apply for re-admission.

ND has no experience with vacating games. Opponents (USC) has but ND has not. Personally vacating games is B.S. IF you had an ineligible player that you should forfeit the game that was the way in was done in college sports for over 100 years.

I actually Russel stings the least, even though he's the most talented of the group.

We're fucked on DL and have no #1 WR.

Davaris is really good... And he plays so well with Everett...
But I agree we have enough depth at wr.

Ishaq is going to hurt just as much as keivare.
Not that he's anywhere as elite, but we do have some serviceable corners.

Dline is really really beginning to worry me. I just hope the freshmen don't get abused.
