Definitely seems like no one got cleared. Absolutely pathetic job by this group of clowns running the show. Inexcusable.

I'm truly hoping they aren't suddenly cleared or suddenly have their hearings on Monday. To me, that would be terrible. Even if the process truly worked out that way I almost hope they wait until mid week.

That DD tweet, in connection with the two very positive ones last night, makes that think that no one got cleared?

DD was not tweeting casually or positively, and now he is. Unless there are other indications I'm missing, I'd assume that they did receive positive news last night, but for whatever reason, they won't be playing against Michigan.

Interesting. Nice logic. Hmm.

Very well could be the case.

If true, though, what a kick to the balls. "Hey guys-- great news! You're cleared! But you're still not playing against michigan."

I don't follow your logic. The tweet may have well been that he was excited to go joy to a club (which he apparently did) and was happy to get away from campus.

There is no scenario where I feel that if any of these guys could play they wouldn't. A more likely scenario is they never had a hearing and this continues into next week.

What's the worst part of all of this is I know for (as close as you can get to) a fact that at the end of last week it was strongly implied if not outright stated that the players would have their situations resolved this week.

To go a whole week with no movement on the situation is completely inexplicable and unjust to everyone involved.

Stop acting like you're waiting on a blood test (you know what I'm taking about) and you'll be okay.

the system is bloated and ineffective, it cannot get business of the day done in a timely matter. time to clean house, and get updated to the 21st century. Ultimately, this inefficiency translates to student achievement, its time for new leadership.

Didn't want press of clearing them before Michigan?

I suspect their could be some credence to this and if that's the case it's a complete injustice to these players. It's either they are guilty or not, and if not, they are taking a spotlight game away from these players for appearance reasons only and for that they should be ashamed. They are putting their reputation for upholding standard and accountability over that of their student athletes, even if they are in the wrong. If this is the case (I suspect we will never know), it's a BS move by the administration that should be questioned/investigated regardless of whether we win or lose on Saturday.

Maybe they found out when their hearings are taking place.

Doubt it. DD's tweets last night were very positive. Having a date certain for his hearing might inspire relief that the process is at least moving forward, but not the sort of excitement he communicated. Wouldn't make sense if his status was still unresolved.

DD went from not tweeting at all right after the investigation went public, to tweeting ellipses earlier this week, to finally tweeting openly and positively as of last night. IIRC, he was also spotted at Fever prior to last night, so that wouldn't really explain his excitement or positivity.

There is no scenario where I feel that if any of these guys could play they wouldn't. A more likely scenario is they never had a hearing and this continues into next week.

I can think of several. For example, let's say some are going to be cleared to rejoin the team (and have been told as much), but they're also not innocent. By having knowledge of academic fraud and failing to come forward, they're guilty of "silence"; so they fell into a gray area, and the committee has chosen to show mercy. In that situation, I could definitely see the administration making its mercy contingent on the players sitting out the Michigan game in order to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

See my answer to CarrollVermin. The sort of "black and white" thinking exemplified by the bolded above is where so many IE posters are going wrong, and it's causing many of us to condemn the University we love and support. There are a lot of scenarios that fall into a gray area.

Isn't there punishment getting an F in the course? What punishment will the non-athletes get if the athletes have to sit out games?

Could be, but might also be suspension or expulsion. And depending on an athlete's GPA, taking an F in a course could easily make him ineligible (it most likely would in DD's case, given his recent academic struggles).

The athletes being pulled out of competition is purely due to NCAA rules, and not wanting to have to vacate wins. That's an entirely separate issue, at least to date, from any discipline that's handed down. I'm just speculating that: (1) if some are getting cleared, but none are truly "innocent"; (2) then the admin could post-date their clearance beyond the UM game to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

Maybe there was movement that predicated no announcement this week. They may have been told that their punishment is time missed through this week and they will be reinstated Sunday or Monday.

I'm fine with nothing really getting out and reported. If stuff was being leaked, misinformation, rumors and speculation would be everywhere and the media would have a field day hammering us.

I see where you are coming from in that scenario, but are they really going to hold these innocent kid's out longer for potentially not playing "whistle blower" on a teammate? They have already missed the opener and if this is the case, holding them out any longer is excessive. I mean Tommy Rees missed less time assaulting a cop on a drunken bender. It's a travesty these kid's are not playing against Michigan if this is indeed the case.
