1. Wimbush looked solid in his first start. Personally, he performed pretty much how I hoped he'd perform for a first time starter. 106 yards rushing was great and so far hasn't show any serious areas of concern that can't be cleaned up.

2. Defense appears to be on the right track. Armstead got some yards on us but I think he's much better than most people realize. Overall good game but next week will be a better gauge on where we're at, I think.

3. Yoon missed a few fg's but I'm not worried about him at all.

4. Tackling looked much better.

5. Overall great team opener. I'm certainly happy with the performance but don't want to over analyze after only one game.

6. Kmoose is better at this than me.

Lots of good things from Wimbush...but he got hit too much. Some of it his fault (get down son), some of it not (Blitz pickup and Pass Pro). Running backs looked nice. Receivers did ok...would have liked to see more separation...seemed like Wimbush had some tight windows, some likely his fault too...O line did fine run blocking...not tickled about how many times Wimbush got whacked. Offense gets a B+ I think.

D-line looked about like I thought...better, more athletic. Line backers looked pretty good. Dbacks tackled better, but pass coverage made me scratch my head...still. If the Temple QB was better this is a much closer game. Did not like the separation Temple receivers were getting...D did get some pressure, qb hits, sacks, TFLs, and a turnover. Defense gets a B+ I think.

I saw a kick returner dance and duck his head again...and it was directly after Temple had some success. That moment either seizes mo back or gives away more...need someone back there with talent and the killer instinct. Kick coverage was nice. Punt returns didn't cause any pain. Kick offs were ...meh. Place kicking was a fail. Special teams gets a C+ I think.

Oh yea...and what had Heistand all pissed off in the timeout after Smyth got popped in the first half??? Dude looked really pissed.

I am. He was only ~75% last year, is coming off an injury, missed both today neither looked like they had much umph behind them. I don't have a ton of confidence in him.

Penetrating analysis.

negged.

This is spot on.

Other thoughts:

-Pressure on the QB was so refreshing to see

- I still don't have much confidence in Coleman

- This offense is going to be goooooooooood

Thank you for the kind words sir.

Watching Bama FSU while flipping back n forth with the Halo game...

It saddens me. I remember when ND had defenses that could fly at the ball like these two instead of just hoping a quality team won't embarrass NDs D...

Think Hayes is about the only guy on D right now that could play at Bama.

Just 7 catches today from what the Box Score is showing, but you're right. I had to look it up, but we only had 12 TE catches all of last season. Giving Booker the boot and bringing in Long looks like it will really let our TEs shine again.

And if Alize could catch, we'd have hit double digits for TEs. I remember at least three distinct drops from him.

One thing no one has mentioned is how clean we played. Only what 3 or 4 penalties? Did we even have one in the first half? No dumb timeouts before the first play of a drive. No delay of games.

Seemed the most locked in I remember a Kelly team being this early in the season.

This is very true. Penalties can really eat away at momentum. Let's hope we stay this clean all season.

Went to the game with my 2 sons, first ND game for my youngest, so good to see a solid win. New stadium setup is good, should have done this 10+ years ago. Contrary to what others have said here, I thought the crowd was pretty dead, especially when ND was on D. Not what I was expecting from a first game atmosphere enthusiasm-wise. I imagine it will be at a different level for Georgia though.

I felt like Wimbush played OK, but not great. He had a tendency to stare down his receivers at times, especially on that INT. He did a great job escaping pressure, but I am also concerned that he won't last the season taking that many hits, as he's not that big. His read option handoff seemed a little slow at times also, but that can be easily corrected.

I thought defense played decent. The secondary left guys open on several plays, but we're lucky receivers couldn't make some more catches. That's going to be bad news if that happens next week. Still saw a lot of missed tackles that could've been made near the line that would've really limited some bigger plays. I thought Jay Hayes and Dealin played solid. LOVED the Jaylon Smith celebrations by Daelin and Tevon.

Need to figure out what is wrong with Yoon or get someone else who can make FGs, he has been regressing since his freshman year.

Cautiously optimistic for the rest of the season if some mistakes can be corrected. At this point I still see 9 wins as a max until things improve in these areas.

Wasn't one of his misses from 51 and had an extra 10 yards to spare? Not sure what you mean by umph.

QB- B
OL- A
TE- A-
WR-B-
RB-A+

D Overall B+

K-D

Kicking was a D- at best .. 0-2 FG is unacceptable! Though I do believe that Yoon will be fine overall. He sucked all day ... FG attempts and kickoffs aren't consistently deep enough.

Stadium looked great. Outside and in.

Wimbush is the most all around talented QB Kelly has had. Still has some holes in his game but hard to not be excited about this kids future.

RB's are really good. Would be hard to imagine many teams with 3 better. Dex deserves more carries but this was a great game to get Jones acclimated to big time ball. Kid has some good feet too!

I didn't mind Cam Smith. Outside him and EQ not much to write home about with WR play.

Overall - Offense was holding plays back for sure. A lot of runs to the right. I believe BK said after game Temple dictates that, and Q and MMcG weren't happy after game. Good to show ND can run your ass off the field with their "weak side".

I will admit I don't know all the jersey numbers on D as good as O so being in person I wasn't taking much time to look up as I would at home. However, Watkins, D. Hayes and Tranquill performed the best IMO.

Coleman and Studstill played most game at safety? 24/14 respectively? Both had some questionable plays (i.e. what were you doing/thinking) but seemed better than last year. I'll take improvement.

Great to see some actual pressure on QB for a whole game. Will be keeping watch as we play better OL/QB.

Defense - while the numbers say we played well. A higher quality opponent is going to shed light on the issues. Run defense could be interesting next week. There were some poorly designed/timed blitzes. Safety play.

D. Hayes - please don't try and hurdle anymore standing blockers.

Yoon's misses - mixed feelings. BK said he wasn't concerned. Seemed sincere about it. One upright shot on a 41 harder? The other one was complete opposite end. Was it just barely short? If so from 47. His ball does seem to "float". But, I'm good with Yoon. If we need 40 yard FG's to stay in games we might be in trouble any how. I'd put him out there from those distances for the win in a heart beat.

Wanted to see Wimbush have a solid game, and I feel he did. Hoped to see no glaring weaknesses that made me feel deeply worried, and I did not. This was a very solid start to the season, and I am not disappointed at all.

OL was not championship caliber
Could not get 1-2 yards when we needed to
Too many dropped balls
Special teams are still a work in progress
Miles Morgan did he make a tackle
Tillery still is hot and cold
Winbush will be ok. Kid has an arm
Mack needs to get his head in the game
We will win some games this year.
Who's Miles Morgan?

So no positives in the 49-16 win? Smh.. some people.
Who's Winbush?

I'll take this game 100/100 times. Plenty of room for improvement, but they went out and clobbered an inferior team right off the bat. Bring on next week.

Agree what I saw gives me confidence ND will beat the teams they are supposed to. Doesn't tell me anything about playing high level competition though.

Daelin Hayes is going to be amazing. When I look at a player and think "that kid would play for Bama or OSU" it's pretty awesome that ND has him. Only feel that way about a few players, he's the first that comes to mind. Josh is the 2nd.

Also, I want to give massive kudos to Coach Heistand. I'm not sure if anyone saw it on tv or if anyone else saw it in the stadium, but I don't think this guy ever stops coaching/teaching. The starting o-line and reserves are ALWAYS in a huddle on the sideline with Heistand talking to them with a white board. It doesn't matter if they score a touchdown or go 3 and out; this guy is always looking for more and is never complacent. I definitely see why guys love playing for him.

Think ND cracks top 25?

Wouldn't be shocked if they did, but there's not much room to get in right now. You got Texas, Florida, and VT-WVU loser moving out, and that's it.

*Possibly Tennessee, but they would certainly be replaced by GT if they lost

Surprisingly, at least to me, Martini really struggled. Coney looked much better when given the chance. I'll be interested to see if/when he passes him up. It was pretty obvious yesterday.

We beat Temple by more than other teams beat some cupcakes. So I'll take that. USC's defense got roasted, for example.

Defense started fast, which I kind of thought. Played a deep rotation, which is good long term. Overall I thought the D played well, but probably not good enough, yet. I believe they'll get there.

I may have to re-watch the game but I thought the DL was good and the LB's missed their fits. Which was also surprising, as I thought they'd be much better. Martini had a rough game.

Wimbush was good, great running the ball. Though he cant take those hits against UGA, or even MSU, as those guys will bring a lot more pain.

It was tough watching Alize. He looked rusty. For a kid who used to have exceptional ball skills, that was difficult to watch.

Everything pretty much covered.

Dex needs to be the compliment to Adams and Coney needs to play more than Martini.

One thing I'd like to ask the board...

If Temple played Western Michigan next week on a neutral field, what's the score?

Really excited that SC struggled yesterday against a team that just lost their coach and best players to the NFL. Something ND did not.

I thought the same as the bolded. On plenty of occasions the DL looked to clog the LOS forcing the running back from Temple to hesitate or bounce to a new hole, yet the LBs did not clean up in time and Temple got 3, 4, 5, 6 yards.

34-31. Something in that range.

The Western Michigan-SC game told us more about the SC defense than the offense. They will obviously face much better offensive talent in the near future. What will they do to stop those offenses? If it wasn't for a 4th quarter explosion, their offense was pretty unimpressive considering who they have at qb. It'll be interesting to see what they do against defenses with legit NFL talent.

Will be interesting to watch the tape to see who Coney is making the plays in place of.

Both Coney and Martini had 6 tkl but Coney's were more more impactful, to my eye at least.

Overall, i agree. Martini did have the big stop on 4th down that forced the fumble. Coney looked great from my eyes

A couple of my thoughts from the game. They need to do a better job with the sound system / music selection. ND did not play any music in between plays or even series. you play the right music the crowd would have gotten more fired up. 2nd thought the Defense stepped up in key series and forced either lose downs or field tries. Last years defense would have let them walk it in. The offense was impressive in spurts the dive was play was getting crushed because Temple kept crashing the middle with blitz a few times if they would have pitched it out instead of the dive it would have been huge plays. But overall the team play outstanding and for once they finished the game

I have no clue why Tony Jones would get a single rep over Dexter. FEED JUICE

Other reactions:
-Alize underwhelming
-ESB usual self
-D Hayes, and D Line in general surprisingly good.
-Nyles meh, but OLB's played well
-Secondary mixed bag but overall solid

Only thing i can think of is that hes a better pass catcher. Dexter made a huge statement. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Sound system? They literally just installed a brand new sound system/speakers this past offseason; the music is much louder now and the bass is much more noticeable IMO. The music choice was fine to me. I don't think they'll really ever play that much music during breaks because they'd rather have the band play or they are paying tribute to a professor, former player, or something.

And two were false starts by a true freshman RT who could still be in HS.
