Barrett's position is very clear-- if a Catholic judge cannot rule on a certain case without violating his or her conscience, then that judge should recuse himself; which most liberals should applaud. Durbin and Feinstein are implying that, as an orthodox Catholic, Barrett cannot be trusted to enforce laws as written. It's the same smear that was aimed at Kennedy and many other American Catholics before him.

Imagine a Republican congressman implying that a Muslim cannot be trusted to impartially uphold our laws simply because of his faith.
I want to echo Redbar's sentiments as I am trying to reintegrate myself in the church but we have seen this before as you say Whiskeyjack:

Do illegal hombres even hit up Mass?

But on a serious note... why the hell would any political figure go after Catholics? Do you want a quarter(or whatever percent) of Americans to hate you or?

Goodness gracious.

Absolutely, and they make the kids go to Church events too. The Americanized kids tend to lapse as frequently as the other (native) demographics. Source: my parish

Also: my parish. In central freaking Connecticut. We just got a new Colombian pastor so he could handle the English and Language Masses at the same time. We used to have an English-speaking pastor and a separate parochial vicar for the Spanish Mass, but the new guy does both. He's amazing but it takes me five minutes every Sunday to tune my ear to his accent.

Learn their language, ingratiate yourself to them and maybe, just maybe, you'll learn how awesome migas and chilaquiles are
La Misa en Espanol is at noon. Eff that noise.

I wasn't complaining by the way. Though I'm on the fence whether Spanish language Mass is good for community building. Church could be a valuable social tool to integrate immigrants into the broader society. We have other churches in the area that have Mass in Polish, Italian, and French as well.

You don't have to go to a Spanish Mass to connect with them, just welcome them into other ministries, have playdates with your kiddo etc. I didn't think you were complaining, but you don't know how good migas is. Your life will change

I've been to many an English Mass where it might as well be in Spanish or some other language I hardly understand...

Latino Catholics do tend to be more devout Catholics when compared to American Catholics as a whole. However, among the small number of legal Catholic Latino immigrants that I know, they're Conservative. The Pro-Life stance may be the reason why, but I've never asked. It's a small sample size though, and I don't know any illegals.

Needless to say, Bannon is an ass either way.

My concern is not where a judges religious convictions violate their conscience, in that case I would applaud their recusal. My concern is more where they feel their religious convictions give them an additional standing or moral authority to "judge" from their position of power.

How is that any different from an atheist that thinks their unbelief makes them smarter than all of the "idiots" that believe in god? And has that strong unbelief color all of their decisions?

The whole idea of a religious litmus test is illegal per the constitution. And it's illegal for precisely the reasons you're trying to argue. Saying -- "but if any judge's religious convictions color their opinions, writings, and legal interpretations, where someone would say "The dogma lives loudly in you"(mind you I am not saying hers do, I honestly don't know). I would hope they were given a good hard look." -- is literally illegal.

Well, that dude was an idiot...so that's a low bar....but the application of logic....nay, the beating about head and shoulders with logic, is a powerful tool. We need more people willing to just stand up and debate their ideas.

The problem is the 'so-convinced-their-position-is-right-they-just-scream-out-the-dissenting-opinion' folks.....they are the death of reason. Left to the true Darwinian forces of nature....I really hope they die out soon.

Yeah that's an unfortunate reality of a lot of these podcast philosophers. They know how to destroy college freshmen who have thought about their position for an hour in class, but rarely substantively push debate any further because they are usually just parroting what smarter people have previously argued. Arguing abortion against a political science major with a 3.0 GPA from Berkley is well rehearsed parlor trick for Shapiro. Not that it's not valuable for at least exposing a different view, but it should be the beginning of people's reading, not a persuasive argument to settle the matter.

As to the remainder of your post, that's why free speech is so important, and why I've never been particularly worried by political correctness as a real movement. When your argument is so clearly and easily destroyed by any semblance of introspection, it can't last. Good ideas last, bad ones are either forgotten or serve as future warnings.
