Much like increases/decreases in discretionary spending usually don't money the needle in federal spending, I'll bet you a dollar the reason "red states" get more than they put it in is the higher federal spending for the millions more people who live in poverty and are on medicaid/welfare.

Fiscal train wrecks with state dollars. Illinois absurd pension positions do not involve federal money, no?

To your point about red states, see my comment on welfare spending. CA, NY, FL, MN, LA, ME, TN, RI, IN are all the big welfare spenders. Mix of both red and blue however of the big spenders, CA, NY, MN, ME, RI are blue, while FL, LA, TN, and IN are red. Obviously CA, NY, and FL are three of the four most populated states.

IL is a fiscal train wreak period. It's not just about the pensions. Certainly pensions are the big hit, and what everyone talks about, but pure and simple poor management is to blame. They have gotten in trouble as well spending federal funds in the wrong place. Bottom line, IL is a wreck regardless. You could also point out corruption. IL always ranks in the tope 5.

The difference is that there is a tax base in blue states to support it, thus the question of which states are moochers or not.

Personally I think the whole discussion is overly simplistic and dumb.

Not sure where to post this but leaving D.C. a few minutes ago there was a massive anti-terrorism protest outside of the Saudi embassy. I looked closer and it was "Muslims against Terrorism"... and their signs were very specific about Wahhabism, etc. Wonder what group organized it.

Meh, TN is pretty close per capita (fed rev collected), and IN and FL not to far from CA either. Very much in the middle.

This. It doesn't really require more than this.

I wonder if it gets any traction...

Nobody gives a shit about North Dakota. You need to deal with it.

Does Arizona contribute anything to the world other than electoral votes? Asking for a friend.

Edit: copper. You guys give us copper. Thank you.

The writing was on the wall years ago. Chicago is currently an unsustainable city and is sucking wealth from its citizens and from IL. That's why I moved out as soon as I finished law school. I have no interest in propping up a bullshit, lazy government with my hard earned money.

Yup. The entire state is such a dumpster fire and has been for years. I knew for years I'd need to leave

Financial disaster aside, Chicago is a wonderful city. I know it's en vogue to dog on it. But me and the ol lady spend time there regularly and it's one of the finest cities in the country, imo.

Cities generally suck but there are a few cities I enjoy... San Diego, El Paso, Austin, parts of LA and Phoenix are nice too if you know where to go.

That's like saying "one of the finest turds in the toilet bowl."

Cities are gross. Cities are where human beings go to live like bees. City parks are sad places for people who don't have any trees of their own. Don't be a poor. Own your own trees.

I could definitely live in New York for a few years tops. How peoole do it long term though is beyond me. Then again, I've only been to Manhattan.

Not my place, I'll met y'all at a brewery instead. Phoenix: Whiskey/pkt's place to taste all their good stuff.

Did you get the salsas? You have to get all the salsas. And use the smoked Tabasco.

I got the mild tomatillo and it was just meh. I didn't know you could get multiple salsas, but honestly I don't want 3 or 4 salsas, just 1. Make it flavorful. The barbacoa was kinda weak too. Not bad in a pinch, but I have much better options around me, and for that I'm thankful.

Edit: smoked tabasco though...now you've got my attention

That's stupid. I'm the last person that would "live" in a big city, but to act like they are epicenters of culture, arts and entertainment is foolish. There is no small town anywhere in America that can compare in those elements. I choose to live in Rural America myself, but I'm quite happy that I am close enough to Chicago to be able to get real culture every once in a while. If someone values those things moreso than having a yard, then by all mean, live in a big city.

Kinda funny that you are calling people that pay up to ten times the price per square footage poors. If anything, they could call you a poor.

You are a poor.

poor...

Lifestyle and wealth are not the same thing, you know better. I have zero respect for the idea of a grown man living with a roommate. It's a half-step above mom's basement.

poor...

There's no reason to bring Dakota into this...

You mean, outside of people intentionally living in community? What's your solution for a "grown man" living with a roommate to save money to buy a house. Or is he not a grown man until he has a house etc?

Repoorted.

Guys, we're getting away from the real discussion here: Chicago is such a mess that soon everyone there will be taxed so much they'll be the poors.
