My Chipotles are usually filled with dudes in gym shorts and hoodies with chin-strap beards, texting on their cell phones and holding the line up as they Tweet about the workout they just finished and the burrito they're about to destroy.

Also, all the female customers are in yoga pants.

Serious question, have you ever been to a Chipotle?

Yes, maybe ten times roughly... felt jipped by the food and annoyed by the hipsters every time.

Lol... I'm telling you I'm convinced this is a region thing and mid west hipsters are just more adventurous.... but to this point, finding a seven dollar carne asada burrito is hard to do round here, and most all five dollar ones are bigger and better than Chiptole, they're just not prentious enough for our local coffee shop set to pay attention to.
Bigger than a Chipotle burrito? I don't think you've ever been to a Chipotle. I'm an extra large gentleman and if I eat a Chipotle burrito at 2:30 I'm good for lunch and dinner that day. "Bigger" than Chipotle isn't a good thing.

Nobody is arguing that Chipotle is better than local, just that it's good enough if you're somewhere where it's convenient and a local place isn't.

Only a Mexican would know that.

Then you're a hipster.

Anyone who fuqing loves Chipotle is a hipster. Anyone who thinks Chipotle is trash is also a hipster. Chipotle is exactly "pretty good." No more, no less.

All hipsters are pretentious people.

Not all pretentious people are hipsters.

I'm pretentious. I have no problem with it. It's that quality that prevents me from buying ugly shoes.

Burrito bowl*.

Everyone knows that Chipotle bros ain't got time for carbs. They never get the tortilla.

Generally spot on, but you forgot the suburban moms with 2+ kids and the yuppie lunch crowd.

Seconded. I'm a bigger guy, and I can put some food away, but if my wife and I get Chipotle for dinner, and we get chips/guac to share, half of my burrito is getting saved for the next day.

I dated a vegan chick in high school who was eating that shit every single day for like two years. She cried for hours when she found out after the fact that it was made from chicken stock.

But...it was cheese...How could a vegan think that a broccoli cheese soup is vegan friendly?

I'm pretentious too. It's the quality that makes me buy ugly shoes. YMMV.

Vegetarian*. She was back and forth on it because she was an idiot (and a total hypocrite because she had no problem with her leather softball glove). Whatever she was, chicken stock violated her sacred principles.

Or maybe vegan and it was a different soup. I don't remember, damn you.

Yeah, there's always the mom with her kids, looking either disheveled or disinterested while her nightmare children make the place more messy than it usually is.

I actually live in a city that is 45% poverty-stricken shitheads, 45% upper-class families with trophy-wives galore, and a 10% buffer zone of perfectly average, middle-class families.

It's always really fun to see the interactions between the poors/normal folk and the trophy wives. Chipotle is a good spot to see this, as is the grocery store.

The only other eight dollar burrito I can think of near me is a ~7.50 burrito at a local chain called Baja Taco... the thing is almost two feet long, it's a food challenge burrito...

Chipotle isn't small but it's not that big either...

A lot of vegetarians eschew stocks made from meat and tons of soups use chicken stock. It's been difficult to make food for and share recipes with some of my veggie friends, though when done right it can be great. Parm stock, for instance.

Yuppie = today's hipster.

The best way that someone can confirm to me that they are old is when they say this.

A yuppie is the diametric opposite of a hipster. The only key thing they share is their youth.

I picture a yuppie as a rich person who's going to turn their nose up to Chipotle on a normal day and say "I would never eat there." They might still eat there if forced to, like if they are with their less-fortunate family members who vote on Chipotle for a shared meal, but they're going to let you know that they don't usually eat there, and it's going to be uncomfortable.

I picture a hipster as a person who is going to turn their nose up at Chipotle on a normal day and opt for the rustic, Wild-West-Meets-Genius-Bar feel at the new place down the street that doesn't have a sign on the building, and where they can plug in their Apple Macbook Pro with the wood-grain decal and use their iPhone that has a boom-box cover.

Speaking of shitty Mexican food... We had a freak snow storm roll in and we don't have any groceries so we're having Old El Paso taco kit for dinner.

I think the big difference between comes down to money and occupation. Hipsters are wealthy utes that are employed by large corporations or some firm. They thumb their nose at Chipotle because there a cooler, more upscale places to eat that they can afford.

Hipsters have less money and tend to be starving artist types that live in a commune of some type. They thumb their collective nose at Chipotle because there's a cheaper, more authentic place off the beaten path run by some someone from the cuisine of choice's country.

If it isn't from a local farm / cafe coop, you can GTFO.

If I come by and the chickens aren't roaming, you can GTFO.

If I come by and sense pesticides, you can GTFO.

If that coffee isn't fair trade, you can GTFO.

If your looks displease me, you can GTFO.

If you know about the places I am talking about, I am going to GTFO.

Lol

Funny thing about this hipster silliness is there isn't much real disagreement, except with wooly, because fuck that guy, but nothing is mutually exclusive here. LAX and other accurately detail hipsters and I'm pointing out that every grouping, even them, eat at chains from time to time( it's not like they never, ever eat at a chain, unless y'all have a special T2000 breed of hipsters out east) and when a group of hipsters are leaving hot topic or wherever the hell it is where they shop, and decide to eat at a chain for a change what chains are they most likely to pick? Ah ha!
