I'd say this staff is a pretty average group of recruiters. Every coach who gave a shit has been able to recruit top 10-15 classes at ND. School sells itself to a certain extent.

How do you not lock up a top devensive line target in im your own state? out worked/lazy. It shouldn't happen.

For the record I think the staff as a whole should be given more time but I'm personally done with the "let's give them the benefit of the doubt" approach. What they are doing, regardless of circumstances, isn't working as well as it should. Now is the time to make some changes, it doesn't have to be on the staff it could be in the approach to things like recruiting but it's now or never, IMO.

They recruited HARD for the '11 and '12 classes. In '13 they signed a really solid class and put in decent leg work but this was the first year that effort started dropping off. And then in '14 and '15 the effort has been below average at best at the top.

Kids want to talk to the head coach and the coordinators. If one kid gets daily calls from Saban and Meyer but from ND he only receives contact from Bob Elliot... where do you think he's going? Hint: it's not Notre Dame.

I'd love to get a hungry staff in place, even if it meant hiring a dog like Mora. We'll see what happens, but the way I see it Kelly (assuming something weird doesn't happen this season where he ends up leaving this year) is going to have a watershed year in 2015. He's either going to win 10 or 11 games... or he's going to have a mediocre season and be out.

Let me finish with this. I think the biggest differentiator in recruiting is effort. As we've seen with PSU, it isn't a one time sale like selling cars would be. It's constant and consistent effort and I honestly am not seeing that. We have a solid class right now and I'm a huge fan of it but in order for this next class to be what it could, we better hit the ground running and do it now.

Side note: I think it's a joke tht BK was at his lake house the night he was rumored to be watching Mack and Robertson play each other.

I think the staff needs changes. Its pretty obvious our staff can't develop talent they way we thought they coukd. With the recruiting classes we have had there is no reason we are having some of the problems we have had.

Or worse, we win 9 games and keep him for another year.

Wrong thread for all of this but I'd be fine if we were forced "to keep" the 2012 coach of the year in college football.

Personally I think it starts with BK. He doesn't seem to place the same urgency on recruiting as other big time coaches do. Sincerely, I read more about Saban skyping with recruits or communicating with them than BK. Difference is Saban has won multiple NC's.

Lol there is no "we"... I have no idea how I ended up a part of that Twitter string...

That account has like 10 total tweets and only follows you and Hopkins. What if Hopkins got drunk and made that troll account to come at you?

Last thing I'll say on Kelly...

There are tons of ways to win in CFB, but to put it the simplest way you either have to have an incredible identity or you have to out-program the competition. You either recruit to your identity and then execute to a high level (see: Oregon, Baylor, Harbaugh's Stanford, etc.) OR you recruit the best players out there and try to out-talent people (see: Carroll at USC, Saban at Bama, "The U" back in the day, etc.).

No one has ever won being lazy in CFB. No one has ever won with mediocre talent unless they have a great identity and can out-scheme/out-execute the opponent.

So if Kelly is going to try to run a straight forward spread offense with no tempo and no deception, and a straight forward 4-3 man-concept defense, he better have NFL quality talent across the board. I'm not convinced his current effort or recruiting strategy is capable of giving us 44 NFL caliber players on our roster at a given time.

Alternatively, he's burnt out on this season of BS and injuries and is just refueling to make a serious run next year. I hope it's the latter.

How do we not have an identity?

We're the bubble screen on the goal line team!

I don't know why you aren't backing me up. Well seeing how you and I drove Justin Hopkins nuts to the point where he had to act unprofessional and got bitched at by his bosses so maybe he does have it out for us. If it is him, it wouldn't surprise me dude is bat shit crazy. Thought brothers ride and die together?

I thought about jumping in and then I saw that the dude sent some gay porn pics in one of the tweets at you... and I asked myself "is this worth it?" And the answer was no. So I blocked and reported.

Ya, see I should have done the same but instead I got into it with him and became stupider. See I am now making up words

This guy looks so unimpressive to me in pictures. Looks small of frame, has not put on any muscle through the arms and shoulders. even thin hipped. He's listed at 6-5 and 230 but if he is 230, it's all head and hair.

I thought it looked like he had a real thin frame too, but I figured my eyes might just be playing tricks on me since he is 6'5" and 230.

I was 6-5, 225 at his age with no upper body weight training so I know this frame size. He's thin through the shoulders and hips. I think what concerns me is he hasn't put on much size in the past year since he first came on the scene. You would think he'd be eating weights right now. That doesn't appear to be the case. If he isn't working hard there, where else is he slacking? Of course, I'm speculating from a set of 25 photos and videos...and don't know his family genetics but it isn't adding up for me right now.

I would love to know his shoe size, sleeve length and hand measurement. Also seeing him on the basketball court would tell me what kind of athlete he really is.

I'm getting a Jashon Cornell vibe with him and that is definitely no bueno.
