Tom, the kid who got booed by his own fans, might be facing the same thing the first time his offense stagnates.
Happy for him. Hope he does great.

I guess we're calling it a "search" to be ironic?
This is kind of the problem I have with this. What are we really getting that is new, innovative, better? I'm hoping Rees comes in with his own playbook, but if it is just another rehash of the same playbook and philosophy since 2010, it doesn't feel like an upgrade.
How do I feel about this? Anxious, but only because we are going to have to spend 8-9 months figuring out what this Tom Rees offense is going to look like.
What's the offensive equivalent of a BVG defense? Maybe it'll look like that!

Honest question as I don't follow Moorhead that closely. What is Moorhead doing that is so innovative? What innovations to his offense has he made over the last 7 years while he's been a known commodity? And what part of his playbook would be an upgrade over ours?
It'll be interesting to get the background details on this. I'm fine with Tommy as OC if Monken and Morehead didn't pan out, but if we went with him instead of one of those two, there better be some rock solid logic behind it.
My guess Is they didn't wanna come in and co-coordinate and/or run someone else's offense, which was prolly a stipulation with the offer. I'm fine with that. I would not be fine with them just straight turning the job down. If ND isn't attractive now, it never will be.There's no good answer: either they didn't want to come to ND because they found the program/coach/etc. unattractive or we passed on them.
Ban only has 3 letters...
Seriously Koon - you're right sometimes, wrong sometimes, and entertaining sometimes.
But in this particular case, I think you're on an island - at least when it comes to refuting Lax and others who clearly have strong, personal ties to people currently in the Gug.
And you drove Woolly away... so why wait for a ban? Just stop.
I really don't understand how people could not like this hire. For one, OCs don't stay at ND long, they tend to either flame out or get a better job roughly a year or two on the job. If he's successful he'll get better offers, if he tanks he's going to get heat fast and get ousted. If the end of the season was any indication, he's going to do well.
Rees is a student of the game, that was always his best asset. He's helped turn Book into one of the most efficient and successful QBs in ND's history, an incredible winning record. Tommy is an ND guy with an ND degree, he knows the program better than any other candidate and what it takes to be in South Bend. He's got thicker skin than most, he endured boos and death threats during his playing days and it didn't matter. He's a players coach that the kids get behind. No other candidate would know the BK offense better. I can't imagine a better fit among possible hires.
You may think there are coaches that would have brought a more prolific offense to South Bend, and maybe you're right, or maybe that coach turns out to be another Long that rubs the players the wrong way or he doesn't fit at Notre Dame. This hire just makes sense. If you still have an axe to grind with Rees because he was a three star player that played for our team and managed to beat out other players that didn't live up to their potential, you have some issues.
Well, kinda just sounds like we were spurned.

Loy is saying on the boards that Moorhead didn't even formally interview (for ND that is) and it never got beyond a few phone calls

Lol, of course. I am surprised it took this long to mention this.To add to this, Loy thinks that Moorhead might've had more interest in ND than Kelly had in Moorhead.

I am not happy with the hire. But I want Tom to succeed and to be proven wrong. I believe that we "had" a great chance to be really good next year,. This just seems like an unneeded risk (on the job training) .

Like he thinks every recruit that ND offers will commit and he puts in a CB as soon as the offer goes out. This guy doesn’t know sh*t.

Yes, continuity of BK's grab bag, ineffective offense (unless it is against lower competition) is very important. Hiring a known commodity is dumb and Kelly was wise to not truly entertain it because continuity is key. That was going to happen regardless.
Hiring Moorhead comes with similar risks. With Rees, you fear that his lack of experience gets in the way. With someone like Moorhead, you lack continuity, and there's more question that the players will buy into his offense and more importantly, him as a coach. With Rees, that isn't an issue.
