I'm not claiming it got worse, I said I didn't buy that it improved.

Book's QBR went up marginally.

YPA went down marginally.

As Lax already said in post 668, Book's QBR went up significantly.

Yeah, BeauBenken was listing quarterback rating NOT QBR in his post. Which is confusing, because he said QBR. But I know he meant rating because QBR only goes to 100 lol

So to clarify -- in the last 5 games where Rees had input in the passing game Ian Book had a QBR average of 84.8... this would've put him 7th in the country, just behind Trevor Lawrence.

Over his first 8 games, he had a QBR of average of 66.9... which would've put him 47th in the country. So he was borderline elite with Rees coordinating the passing game, and he was a low-end P5 caliber player operating under Long's guidance.

I can't believe we still have some people truthering this.

Let the record show this is your response to my statement above:

"I'm not posting this at you specifically, but for everyone who bought into the "Rees was calling plays, I heard it from someone" madness. That caught way more momentum than it should have. I challenged it, shot it down, and got everyone off of that mess."

Who would like to report the murder about to happen below?

Post #43: “I heard that Rees called the last four games. I think that's especially interesting because that's when the offense really took off again.”

Irishlax Post #111: “And despite what has been leaked/publicly stated, this was effectively the 5th game in Rees' audition. They've all been impressive, but what was most impressive to me here was a glimpse towards a better blocking scheme.”

Post #122: “Those 5 games that Rees supposedly called plays for are should've been win games. How do we know that Alford hasn't had a hand in calling plays at OSU? If not Alford OK, but bring in new blood!”

Post #522: “Same dudes DON'T want Rees as OC, because we don't know enough about him, and there is a more experienced OC to be had. Conveniently, they ignore the fact that there is five games worth of evidence at the end of the season that prove that the dude can get it done.

Post #527: “This is incorrect. Lax was the first to come out and say right after the Navy game that he was told from a source Rees was in charge.

Post #541: “To make Koon's original point look even more foolish:

Passing average in first 7 games (Long): 215
Passing average in last 6 games (Rees): 257”

Irish Lion Post #553: “we have two mods and two other posters with sources saying Rees was at least in charge of the passing game after scUM.

FYI - I don't care...I just thought the back to back posts were funny...

You make make what should be an enjoyable escape from reality a GD chore. Hope you're proud. Who am I kidding, we know you're proud.

So mods can introduce untrue things for the board to eat up, but calling them out and question that needs to be hidden?

I'll likely be banned in the AM so you won't have to worry about it. But I hope others grow some healthy skepticism going forward. I hope others can get to a point where they're not too proud to say "my bad", rather than result to moving the goal post or insulting as their only tool in the box.

Adios.

I'm not claiming it got worse, I said I didn't buy that it improved.

Book's QBR went up marginally.

YPA went down marginally.

Book's QBR for each game was as follows (https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr/_/view/weekly/group/18) :

Louisville - 76.8
New Mexico - 85.5
UGA - 41.7
UVA - 51.6
Bowling Green - 98.4
USC - 57.1
Michigan - 12.6
VT - 65.4

Duke - 87.5
Navy - 98.8
BC - 72.2
Stanford - 80.1
ISU - 94.4

So yes, his QBR did improve significantly the last 5 games of the season. And QBR is a much better stat than passer rating to evaluate a QB's entire performance because it accounts for rushing, ability to avoid sacks, and adjusts for opponent.

Edit: here's the link with every week

As Lax already said in post 668, Book's QBR went up significantly.

And just to be clear, Book's YPA went up in the last 5 games as well. 7.36 to 8.04 is quite the jump.

Rees isn't getting interview at Oregon, whether he was going to get the job or not, if he wasn't doing something right. Cristobal isn't wasting time with an in-person interview for no reason other than for Tommy to get experience.

Welp. Feels like a consolation prize with Moorhead still out there but we'll see I guess.

The bowl game (against the 22nd ranked D per S&P+) marked ND's highest YPP and Book's highest YPA against a P5 opponent on the season.

https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/11524/breaking-notre-dame-promotes-tom-rees-to-oc

It was a great game but the challenge of formulating an offense vs. tweaking the existing one to account for Chip Long's blind spots are different tasks. Given that ND is returning the whole OL and a third year QB expectations for the offense should be high.

I'll wait and see but I'd be lying if I said my first reaction was very different from this...

It'll be interesting to get the background details on this. I'm fine with Tommy as OC if Monken and Morehead didn't pan out, but if we went with him instead of one of those two, there better be some rock solid logic behind it.

What a joke. I remember running into this guy in a bar in Chicago the Thursday night before a game his first season as a QB coach. My interactions with him at ND also gave me a negative opinion, so I'll admit I'll always be biased.

That's good that you do. But as you can see based on the steam this got, that's not true for the majority.

People listen to the mods and so there's a certain level of accountability that should come with that respect.

I think I'm smart enough to decipher info from the mods and make my opinion. You make it like they are the Pied Pipers and we blindly and merrilly skip along behind them.

That’s kind of where I’m at. Especially Moorhead. Will be curious to read the inevitable back stories.

Rees probably knows BK's offensive philosophy as good as anyone. He may also be the best suited to handle the rigors of calling plays for him. Dude has always been unflappable. I'm hoping for some real synergy to develop in this relationship.

I also really like the idea of Lance Taylor as run game coord. Hopefully his coaching talents and ND putting him in a quasi coord position really appeals to some high level backs going forward. (calling Will Shipley)

This is kind of the problem I have with this. What are we really getting that is new, innovative, better? I'm hoping Rees comes in with his own playbook, but if it is just another rehash of the same playbook and philosophy since 2010, it doesn't feel like an upgrade.

I don't give af as long as Tommy calls BK approved plays that stretch the field. That means Tommy gets in Book's face and tells him with a purple face... "We gave up 2 years of pinpoint bombs for one year of you so nut up and the throw the ball waaaaay downfield to Lenzy, Austin, Johnson, Mayer and if you chicken out & dup it off, you better hope Tyree bails you out with consistent 30 yac's.

Enough chit chat. TTDB

Tommy Rees just got promoted lol.

Fuck me.

Ban only has 3 letters...

Seriously Koon - you're right sometimes, wrong sometimes, and entertaining sometimes.

But in this particular case, I think you're on an island - at least when it comes to refuting Lax and others who clearly have strong, personal ties to people currently in the Gug.

And you drove Woolly away... so why wait for a ban? Just stop.
