Book should have a hay day against this secondary. They rank last in the ACC for passing yards against. They give up 304 yards against in the air.

For that Duke game, it's important to consider that Duke's QB (Daniel Jones) was 3-weeks removed from having surgery to insert a steel plate into his clavicle. That almost certainly affected his throwing, but it also limited their playcalling because he was essentially relegated to the pocket, even though he's more of a dual-threat QB. They weren't a strong passing team to begin with.

Tech shut down the run against Duke, but Duke's run game kind of sucks. They put up good rushing numbers vs. Baylor and NCC, but Baylor's defense is a dumpster fire and NCC is a crappy FCS team. Northwestern completely shut down their run game as well.

The gameplan of using 3 to hold the line will not work against ND. If it's used, ND will just pick up 7-10 yard runs left and right.

Definitely a surprise as Ruhland played well. Banks is a load and a half and will cause some spacing problems for the VT D-line.

I defiantly honk ruhland can come in and handle the load. He’s not going to be close to bars level but can he just give us enough to win. I think he will.

And banks is one big boy. I can see him pushing some defenders 10 yards down the feild with one push

I think we will be ok with ruhland and banks the rest of season. If we make the playoffs and have to play the elite teams then I’ll be more worried but then also they will have some starts under their belts and should be ready

By all accounts both are going to play with TR starting. I could see this shaping up like the QB situation, TR gets starts until Banks gets the practice and game reps needed to mature and take over the position later in the season.

Same here. I'm really excited and hope this turns out even better than the Oklahoma game. It's so much fun to beat a good team in their house.

Really need a highlight video. Surprised more people aren't producing them, this is the year to be doing it. We have tons of highlight worthy clips - defensively and offensively

I'm not sure how it could. ND won't be able to beat a Top 10 team on the road by 3 possessions this Saturday because this Va Tech team isn't anywhere near that level. Lane Stadium is hard to play, but there's a reason that win is #1 on BK's list of best wins.

But yeah, dominating a decent Va Tech team in one of the hardest road environments would be a very solid addition to this team's resume.

Ruhland plays well in space/pulling/flexibility where Bars/Banks are superior on the necessity of push inside at that position. If Banks plays well there, it could set up nicely for looking ahead to next year when Ruhland slides to Center and takes over for Mustipher and Banks stays at LG. (Patterson, Lugg and others will of course want to have a say in the best "5" 2019)

VT has the 8th worst pass defense. if VT has trouble defending the pass then they wont be able to fill the box to defend the run and with the balance and efficiency that NDs offense has been playing with under book it could be another big night for NDs offense.
