ND by 20. NC State is not good.

I hope you aren't saying these things out loud at work. It's taken 2 years to get your co-workers back on board and you're running around single handedly trying to destroy ND's SOS.

NC State is good. SC is good. Your employer says they are both Top 20.

ND beating both by 20+ doesn't change that.

I worry because NC State doesn't make a lot of mistakes and they are able to sustain long drives. If Elko's defense has a weakness, I'd assume that's it.

Elko's defense limits explosive plays but I don't know how it'll handle methodical offenses.

Offensively, they are built to shut down what we do best. So it's truly about who is better at what they do. Are we better at imposing our will or are they better about stuffing the run?

And if they are better, is Wimbush capable of pushing it downfield repeatedly?

After MSU and SC it's clear to me that ND CREATES TO's and imposes it's will vs good teams.

ND is playing like an Alpha. NC State has simply played at the good to very good level.

Yeah, main reason I'm worried about NC State's offense is that they don't let you create negative plays. They dink and dunk their way down the field. They neutralize pass rush by getting most every pass out in under 2 seconds. You have to press coverage across the board to have a chance of stopping them, and frankly the times we've seen quick passing games this year teams have moved the ball on us until they made a mistake. I truly think this is the most balanced, efficient offense ND has played to date. Their defense? Seems really over-hyped.

Bend Don't Break! Their field goal kicker is not good. ND keeps them out of the endzone and the ND O will take care of business.

Exactly right. While the turnovers help us win games. Ultimately we will win games or lose games by our Red Zone TD Efficiency (both offense and defense). Score TD's when we are in the red zone and make the other team settle for field goals, you will almost always win.

Offensive Red Zone TD Efficiency - #5 in the country
Defensive Red Zone TD Efficiency - #6 in the country

Two of the bigs things I haven't heard much about are how good or bad their o-line is and how penalized they are. If we can draw some penalties on their offense, it will make sustaining long drives more difficult. So hopefully the stadium gets pretty loud, but I'd also bet you see some stunting and slanting from our d-line to try and draw some holding penalties even if they don't get to the QB.

I think the more important of the two is how good their o-line is. If our d-line can shut down the run with just the four down lineman, it could let our LBs and Rover drop into underneath coverage to shut down some of the shorter routes. I bet we'll see a lot of the looks where all the linebackers are at the line before the snap to try to confuse their QB and not let him know how many are dropping into coverage.

Overall I am pretty worried about this game, but I've also been worried about every game this year and our defense has found a way to limit teams, so I'm going to trust that Elko has a good strategy for this game.

Here is why I'm scared of this game...EVERYTHING points to us being able to win this one pretty easily. But I've been betting football for over 20 years now...I'm actually on a 17-3 run my last 20..lol.....Anyway, all of my gambling friends are all over NC St as their game of the week. I'm not sure why except that ND has been covering every week, and they are thinking it can't last all year.

I think Elko will throw some confusing fronts at NC State that they haven't seen this year. I'm predicting at least 1 INT on a deep throw that our defense will get. If we don't turn the ball over I think we will start off passing like against USC then try to run here and there. I think getting Adams involved in the short passing game will work too. I think the game will be close late in the 3rd then we end up winning 35-30

This.

Keep hearing about their dline...My thoughts? Let's just throw a screen over it and let Josh/Tony/Dex run over their LBs and DBs.

I also think this will be a coming out party for Brandon Wimbush in the passing department. This kid can throw the ball, even though at times this year he looks real bad. I'm guessing well over 300 yds and 3 TD's, and the talk all next week is...ND will be unstoppable if he continues to play like that. ND 35 - 23

I can't get past how good the ball looks coming out of his hand. His downfall has been trying to be too perfect with his downfield throws on top of being too quick to tuck and run (at times).

I could totally see this happening. Especially now that Stepherson is back.

I was thinking the same thing, the ball looks so nice coming out of his hand. I think this is the game he will just let it fly, and quit over thinking it. We have been rolling teams with him looking like the least accurate QB at ND in 30 years...lol...Imagine if defenses have to start worrying about his arm. Josh might just win the Heisman if that happens!

I'd like to see our safeties step up this game and create a turnover. Watkins, Crawford, Love -- all have made multiple game changing plays. Safeties haven't done squat in regards to forcing turnovers.

I predict one of them gets over the hump this weekend.

id take no game changing plays for ND if it means not allowing game changes plays for NCSt.

Safety play has been solid and that is a vast improvement from where safety play has been.

We haven’t heard shit about the safety play this year.

Which is a VERY GOOD thing.

I see what you did there! Tony Rice results under Wimbush - I am A-OK with that!

I'm not saying the safeties suck.

I'm saying I want to see them join the disruption party that's happening in waves in isle 1 (DL), isle 2 (LBs), and isle 3 (CBs).

Wimbush has only thrown over 200 yards once this season: Georgia.

I'm not sure we want to see 300 yards passing unless it accompanies at least 180 rushing.

The safeties have improved but are also being shielded from too much exposure by Elko etc. While of course turnovers from that group would be great, the less I hear about the safeties the better, because they are certainly the weakest position group on the team.
