While not stated, I think he was referring to teams with decent offenses. None of those are that great.

The sentence in question I was specifically talking about bad offenses (where they do very well), and then contrasted that to how they get lit up by good offenses that have play makers specifically because their scheme doesn't translate to beating teams that can win 1v1 matchups. He's the one who quote tweeted me acting like it was some absurd thing to point out that they do very well against bad offenses... which is simply supported by results and facts over the past two years. Why are we still talking about something that can be proven by a simple Google search?

Michigan's defense appears to be good, however they really haven't played very many decent offenses.

Middle Tennessee (94th total off / 114th scoring off)
Army (117th total off / 102nd scoring off)
Wisconsin (29th total off / 11th scoring off)
Rutgers (129th total off / 130th scoring off)
Iowa (56th total off / 81st scoring off)
Illinois (104th total off / 51st scoring off)
Penn St (59th total off / 28th scoring off)

For posterity sake, ND is ranked 20th in total offense and 12th in scoring offense.

ND is the best all-around offense that Michigan has played to date, despite the shortcomings. The only one that comes close is Wisconsin, who not only is quite one-dimensional but also completely dominated Michigan's defense. That doesn't bode well for Michigan.

Nice. Kelly most of the time seems like a total buttoned up CEO, but he's had some epic pregame speeches in his time at ND. That one is right up there with Lou's "run through me now" speech.

I actually have always liked his demeanor. Him coming in wearing a suit and acting like he's ready drop a shit on his yacht is infinitely superior to us having to watch snot river Charlie sit down at the picnic table in his sweat pants and do a Belichick impression.

Yeah well not everyones a weird psycho like you and your old coach lol. Playing corner and wideout made it lame as hell. I prefer a clean and crisp game with full athleticism on display. Rainy days are gross. The only thing I enjoy about the Lions is they play in a dome. Could be a blizzard outside and it’s perfect 70 and dry inside. Don’t tell that to Patricia though. He thought practicing outside in the rain when their next game was at home and inside was gonna help them haha. To each their own I guess, but that’s just my preference. Not trying to get pneumonia like ole Gipp.

True, a cold, rainy night game wouldn't be my first pick. I've done them before, but I certain'y prefer it to be warmer if it's going to be raining good. Summer shower for an afternoon game? Hell yeah, I'll be there till the clock hits 0. I'll be there anyway, even if it's cold, but it would be more enjoyable if it's 50+. Best of luck to you guys, bundle up and bring us a win!

BC 93 still trumps them all

First game I ever went to :verysad: I've been there for all the Michigan wins of the last 19 years, so I've got a good track record there. I'm about 70/30 when it comes to USC, but I was there for the Bush Push unfortunately. Never been there for a Navy upset. I still have yet to see a win against BC though, and the only Michigan State win I've been there for was the improbable Tommy Rees game of 2013. We shouldn't have won that game on paper, but Tommy kept chucking it deep, and MSU's DBs in 1 on 1 kept committing pass interference. Most unique offense that Kelly has ever run

Sampson tweeted ND is 4th nationally in RZ TD percentage 86.4%, scUM at 118th 75%. When the lads get to the RZ, they deliver.

Just watched a little of last years game. I had forgotten that Book came in early in the game for a few plays while Wimbush had his eye looked at. Brown brought the blitz and Book handled it.

Long also called a few screens in the first half to counter scUM's aggressiveness. Look for some on Saturday?

One of scUM's TD's was from a KO return. I don't see that happening this year. I think we'll also see Claypool and a few others on ST like we saw against USC.

After watching that, I'm ready to put on the pads.

I'm pretty sure ESPN tried to create some narrative about Kelly growing into a robot CEO after the fake backlash they created for his sideline anger.

Kelly has got some fire in his belly and I love when he shows us.

Reminds me of 2010, when Michigan injured Crist's "throwing eye" on the opening drive.

Very dishonorable of Michigan, always going for the eyes.

from espn:

No. 8 Notre Dame at No. 19 Michigan

Caesars line: Michigan -1
SP+ projection: Notre Dame 24, Michigan 28 (win probability: 41%)

How Notre Dame loses: Pretty easily, actually.

Michigan has lost eight games in a row to top-10 teams, and by an average of two touchdowns. Notre Dame hasn't really spent much of 2019 playing like a top-10 team, though, and some of the traits most of these Michigan-vanquishing teams have possessed -- elite defenses, explosive offenses -- are not really clubs in the Notre Dame golf bag this year.

The Irish are good, of course, but they have been even more bend-don't-break than normal defensively, and while the passing game largely avoids crippling mistakes, it also ranks 80th in passing marginal efficiency. They have played two teams ranked better than 35th in SP+ so far this year (No. 5 Georgia, No. 23 USC) and have been outscored 50-47. Michigan: 14th in SP+.

Frustrate Ian Book. Make the Irish run game work a lot harder than it had to against USC. Force the Irish defense to bend right into scoring opportunities. It's pretty easy to describe how Michigan wins this game ... though the Wolverines have proven that following said recipe isn't always easy when the spotlight's on.

Our O-line has gotten better by the week and I expect them to do well Saturday night. scUM's D line isn't nearly as good as last year, plus BK and Long have had two weeks to prepare Book for Brown's blitzes.

Random feeling, MTA, Hinish, and our entire OL will show well i this game.

MTA and Hinish aren't used to playing this many snaps and they're big dudes - I imagine the week off lets them reset their batteries.

Same with the OL - I believe OL in general is prone to having lingering pains (not injuries) on the hands, fingers, feet, etc. This helps them come out with power and energy. Most importantly, Patterson.

Maybe it's my pessimism kicking in, but I can't help but think that the forecast favors them. just allows them to blitz our dicks off even more.

Media picks are rolling in and most are picking ND with our improving OLine the biggest reason. Even some here (Koonja?!?).

Terrible weather makes the line play an even bigger factor than usual.

Keep in mind that if you blitz a lot on run plays you set yourself up for chunk plays in the run game.

I would like to see some advanced stats on Book vs blitz.

But i would think getting blitz happy would help us create the big plays we need and might not get as easy as going over the top.

THIS they got absolutely shredded by wisconsin with this....was watching the game and taylor hit the hole on several runs and there wasn't ANYONE within 15-20 feet once he got past the intial line of scrimmage because of them basically bringing the house several times on blitzes which completely backfired

I don't think this is random at all. Outside of the just the bye, I don't think these two are getting enough credit for how well they've played the last few games. Both have essentially become more complete players. Hinish is becoming more disruptive while MTA is holding up better against the run for extended periods.
