Already giving excuses for a loss that has yet to happen? That makes me happy.

I think we can run the ball down their throats lets face it their DL is banged up without much depth, and they haven't faced an OL this good since maybe Stanford?

There's no excuse for throwing the ball more than ten times this game. Every matchup up front favors us. Control the clock, pound the ball, own the fourth quarter. I said it a week ago and I still think we should be able to beat this top ten team by 20+.

For the record I still have a single ticket available. Face value. Lower level.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm thinking the north white lot may be worth checking into and if nothing else, I suppose there are worse ways to spend a Saturday afternoon than drinking in bars until the game starts. This will be my sixth time back at Notre Dame Stadium and I don't think I've ever been more excited for a game. This is going to be a good one and I think the Irish are ready to make a big statement. Go Irish!

Fall breaks are normal, but getting the entire week is a strange concept to me. We only got two days at my Midwest institution.

Will OJ be at the game?

He'll be there signing memorabilia for traveling SC fans... and later robbing those same fans at gunpoint to get back the memorabilia that he signs.

I think ND justifies the week off by not having single days of class off for things like Labor Day. Instead of those single days, they use a week so kids can get back home, which is more difficult than many colleges because so many students are from so far away.

Ahhh I see. That's a cool way of doing things.

The North White Lot is a perfectly acceptable tailgating spot, my buddy and I downed a growler of Lagunitas Sucks before touring campus before the Miami game last year. It’s not quite the party atmosphere like the stadium lot is, but you are allowed to grill and imbibe in adult beverages, with plenty of room to throw a football around if you’re into that as well. It’s $30 and you can just drive up and pay, no reservation required.

Looks like I’m gonna hit a couple of the South Bend staple dives like Frank’s, Joe’s, and Corby’s to get nice and wobbly before the game

I question that story. How does one share his growler of Sucks, assuming there was just one?

If you and I are tailgating with only 1 Growler of Sucks... you my friend are dying of either A) Dehydration or B) Blunt force trauma.

I think USC is going to try and crowd the line with 8 in the box we should start out running but I think we will need to throw as well maybe this is why Stepherson has been getting more involved in practice this week

Good luck, old man. You may have the length, but you're not winning this scrap.

DON'T LIKE THAT

That's too much anti-USC juju being put into the universe by the "experts."

Had it in my gut earlier this week. I'm sticking by it...For whatever reason, I've had this 2014 ND vs UM feeling. Not that I think ND will shutout USC. But I just don't see USC having a chance in hell during this game. We have a better OL, better running game, and we have Elko. 34-17 (and the under-20 streak continues).

The biggest keys to the game is going to speed up Darnold get pressure on him and make him make mistakes, he has a ton of turnovers fubmles and INT this year. The more wind the better for us. We can't just let him sit back in the pocket and kill us with 5-10 yard throws all day

Anyone look into Elko's past performances after a bye week? I expect good things, but wonder if his history suggests that.

W/L's not as important because Wake wasn't good on offense, but specifically interested in how his defenses play after a bye.

Clay Travis has ND by 10.

Not much of an "expert" but he does gambling picks every week and has historically been a ND hater. He's very high on them this year.

Lost to Army in 2016. Lost to ND in 2015. Lost to Syracuse and Clemson in 2014 (2 byes).

2015 ND-Wake was a good showing for them defensively. Gave up 28, but only 282 total yards. This game was also important from a style point perspective, and ND did not have many. It was an ugly one IIRC.

maybe its just me but i am more worried about SC running the ball than throwing.

Seems like the years they beat us its run run bootleg for first down, run run bootleg for first down. if we can get them in 3rd and longs and force them to be one dimensional in their passing attack (straight drops, no PA, etc) I like the chances our D has.

When they are balanced and have the whole playbook at their disposal they have the athletes to be very dangerous.

With context - defense looked pretty good in 3 of these 4 post bye week games.

2016 - Army scored 14 in Q4 to win 21-13. Army was #2 rushing offense in the country averaging 357ypg on the ground and WF held them to 131 through 3 quarters before wearing down and giving up 107 in the fourth (still finishing 120 yards below Army's average for the year). Wake Forest offense had the ball for about 9 minutes in the second half and threw a 4Q INT.

2015 - 282 yards of total ND offense - 1/3rd of which was one play? Yikes "The Demon Deacons had 23 first downs to 15 for the Irish, 340 yards to 282 yards in total offense and had the ball for 11:36 longer than Notre Dame.

The Irish (No. 4 CFP, No. 6 AP) won 28-7 anyway, getting a 98-yard touchdown run from Josh Adams, scoring twice on two trips into the red zone and adding another TD on a 28-yard interception return by Andrew Trumbetti. The Demon Deacons were 1-of-4 in the red zone"

2014 - Syracuse - 14 of their 30 points were by the defense (INT and Fumble returns for TDs)
Clemson - Yeah they scored pretty good - game was close going into the 4thQ at least.

I think he's very high on them because their success presents the best shot for the SEC to get two teams in the playoff, at which point he can crow about how great the SEC is and how the other conferences are all dead out here on these football streets.

Conversely, pumping ND up is convenient for him, because if they collapse and lose two or three more games, he'll have a whole week's worth of radio segments to talk about how they were a fraud, how the fans are delusional, how ND is nothing special anymore, how BK needs to be fired, and who should replace BK.

Now that they seem to be decent, he'll ride the hype to talking points either way. If ND wins out, he pumps the SEC. If ND loses a few, he rides the hate to some clicks/listeners.

Hahahaha classic line. And I too love a good Growler. For the record I've just polished off some Tributary Brewing Company (York Me.) Octoberfest and IPALS (IPA w portion of proceeds going to ALS research). Win win. Carry on.
