Alright, I stand corrected. It was my belief that he was a three star

His acceleration is unreal, but I think Reggie Bush would like to have a word. His high school highlights at least have to be under consideration for best ever.

My main takeaway from this thread is that Tavon Austin should be playing RB in the NFL.

IMO, he is going to be the exciting returner/receiver we would have gotten had Mckenzie (SP) came here

And don't forget his step dad.

Or the Mercedes he bought his mom as a thank you present when he turned 18 and took control of his trust fund.

sanders would be an outstanding PR/KR
i'd prefer a starting or 2 deep rb , or starting wr not return kicks if we have good alternatives
bk also talked about crawford returning

from nbc mailbag

twebb2: Hey Keith, can you talk about the special teams at some point, especially kick returns and punt returns? This seems to be one of those lingering problems of the Kelly era (like, “Is this the year Ishaq finally breaks out?” – hah)… do you think we’ll make some progress on special teams this year?

For as evergreen as this question seems, complaining about Notre Dame’s special teams under BK also seems like a rite of preseason camp.

I actually think Notre Dame’s special teams were vastly improved last year, but after the Brindza/holder meltdown, you tend to forget about the nifty returns Greg Bryant had and the much improved work on coverage units that we saw from Scott Booker’s troops.

I know, you didn’t ask about coverage teams or kickers. (And you really didn’t complain, either.) But I expect someone like CJ Sanders to come in and potentially add some electricity to the return game, and it sure feels like CJ Prosise would be a fun guy to see get an opportunity as a kickoff return man.

I was not a big fan of George Atkinson as a kickoff returner. While he had a few home runs, he lost me with the tip-toeing, the fastest way to take a 10.3 100-meter sprinter and turn him into a slow-poke. But I’d be surprised if Amir Carlisle was back returning kicks again this year, and I’d hope that Kelly and Booker would be open to giving a young player like Sanders a shot at impacting a game in the third phase, especially when snaps look tough to earn.

didn't know this... from NBC

Irish A-to-Z: CJ Sanders | Inside the Irish
CRYSTAL BALL

As much as I like Sanders, it’s hard to find a way where he’ll make a sizable impact on this offense, unless an injury limits Carlisle. (Then again, Greg Bryant’s suspension all but completes C.J. Prosise’s transition to running back.) But it’s too soon to tell if Sanders is advanced enough from a football IQ perspective to jump into the lineup.

But where he could shake things up is on special teams, likely serving as an upgrade in the return game, potentially taking over for Greg Bryant on punt return. (I’d kick the tires on Sanders as kickoff returner as well.)

Sanders shouldn’t be looked at like a normal freshman. He had a successful acting career as a child (stop me if you’ve heard this one, but he played a young Ray Charles in the film Ray…), accelerating his maturity process while also building some bulletproof confidence. That’ll help with the big stage that is Notre Dame Stadium.

Realistically, I’m pegging the return game as Sanders’ likely home. That hasn’t been kind to freshmen (we’re still waiting for Davonte Neal to break a return), but Sanders shows better instincts. He’s also a wonderful candidate for the “designated deep ball receiver,” a role dating back to Golden Tate, then passed along to Chris Brown and Will Fuller that usually means you’re destined for good things.

Remember when we all liked Isaiah McKenzie from 2014, after watching Sanders h.s. film he showed signs of McKenzie-esque speed. I'd like to see him return kicks and punts.

A) Did you see Sanders 40 at the Opening? And his SPARQ score?

B) Did you watch his senior high school highlights at Notre Dame in California?

C) Did you see his national ranking in the 100 Meters his Junior year in high school?

D) Did you see Sanders 40 at the Opening? And his SPARQ score?

What is your point? He is saying he wants to see Sanders (not Saunders) make an impact on ST.

Thank you for pointing out the "u," I hate the misspelling, when I do it or when I see it!

Maybe that distracted you from what I said. I made four statements. I cleverly repeated the first as the fourth! Cool, huh?

The point I was attempting to convey is that Sanders has McKenzie-esque speed. Particularly if you compare the measurables in static environments :

Isaiah McKenzie, 5-8, 160, Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage

Results: 4.56 40, 4.54 shuttle, 35’ PB, 36.0” VJ, 87.84 SPARQ

CJ Sanders, 5-8.5, 175

Results: 4.32 40, 3.78 shuttle, 38.6' PB, 39 VJ, 139.26 SPARQ

Plus, Sanders placed nationally in the 100M as a Junior in high school.

Maybe stated more succinctly, my point is, McKenzie almost has Sandarian speed!

(Oh, yeah. Watch CJ's highlights as a senior at Notre Dame, and what was tweeted about him. He was unstoppable as a returner.

If he has a breakout year, I might have to add the movie Ray to my preseason viewing list.

With the emergence, or what I think is the emergence, of Hunter Jr. I think its going to be hard for Sanders to get snaps on offense as a freshman. However, I'm really excited about this kid long term.

Hoping to see him on punt returns. I'd prefer Prosise on kick returns although BK might be wary of that with our RB depth now.
