Hey guys, first time poster, long time Irish fan. My question is similar to arndtjc's. My buddy and I are driving up from St. Louis for the game this weekend and in year's past we've done the whole all-day campus thing too. We may end up trying to hit up a bar or two, but my question is, are there public tailgates or tailgates hosted by bars that you can buy tickets for? The only ones I can find are busses that come from Chicago, which won't work for us since I'm locked into my South Bend hotel reservation already, or the Shamrock Village, which is $350 per person so out of my price range by a lot.

The other thing we may consider is tailgating at a park n party lot, if anyone has experience with that. I'm just afraid of being the lone people in the parking doing any tailgating.

Your ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Go Irish!! Beat SC!!

The North White Lot is a perfectly acceptable tailgating spot, my buddy and I downed a growler of Lagunitas Sucks before touring campus before the Miami game last year. It’s not quite the party atmosphere like the stadium lot is, but you are allowed to grill and imbibe in adult beverages, with plenty of room to throw a football around if you’re into that as well. It’s $30 and you can just drive up and pay, no reservation required.

Looks like I’m gonna hit a couple of the South Bend staple dives like Frank’s, Joe’s, and Corby’s to get nice and wobbly before the game

I usually hit O’Rourkes before heading into the lot for tailgating. I have a regular tailgate I hit on my yearly trip but you could always ask to buy a wristband at a bus tailgate and join in. I’ve had success in the past. Hope this helps, enjoy! I’m heading out tomorrow, I can’t wait to get there.

I second this. We tailgated there in 2014 before UNC game. Brought a little grill and planty of beverages. And like he said, plenty of room to throw a football around. Safe travels! Go Iriah!

Driving up from MDW Saturday morning, really stoked! I’ve done the whole campus thing all day every time I’ve been to a game and want to change it up this year. Can anyone suggest a good bar/dive bar with decent to cheap drinks on gameday (not called the Linebacker), that is within a decent uber distance?

Do..... The View. Cheap drinks great burgers...my favorite dive in town.

No love for Fiddler's Hearth from you fools? Nothing better than a Friday night when Kennedy's Kitchen is live.

I would suggest Legands. $15 that you get back as a food voucher, Pulled pork, brats, hot dogs, etc.
They have a good mix of beer and liquor. Plus they have the games on and an outdoor tent area with TV's as well. And it's right next to the stadium and South lot.
It may not be a "whole day" spot, but you get, food, beer and football

This is great.

I'm sure braindead USC fan never stops to think why their trip to South Bend is always in October and not at the end of November like when the Irish go out west.

The whole French whore, cheese eating surrender monkey thing was good. Of course you know that if they have one guy on their team with a German last name or their band does something that even vaguely resembles goose stepping, you guys are toast.
