I no longer feel bad, or like we have a roster advantage after looking through their recruiting classes from 2014 and on. Holy Lord are they loaded with talent.

Question, Do you know if Tennessee has ever been a 36 point underdog as they are tomorrow?

Can't remember them ever being that much of an underdog. But I would take them points if I were betting. I have to think they still have some pride left in them... even if they still have B. Jones.

I just watched a man eat three meat lovers slices of rest stop Sbarro. And I saw a truck for a company called Fuchs Lubricants. This is my favorite day.

Not nearly enough hype on this board though. I'm posting as much as anyone when I pull over to pee.

If you're eating Sbarro, you have to get the stromboli.

A fresh-out-the-oven stromboli from Sbarro is bad-food heaven.

The things you see at the I-80 rest stops...

I miss that.

Doesn't USC get a huge ticket allotment? Like 15,000 tickets or something? I read somewhere that they actually returned a number of tickets.

If you're an ISD customer, I suggest reading "LongTimeDomer's" post "My Look at USC". I put it in a word doc in size 11 font, and it was 13 pages long, but well worth the read.

After reading that, I'm less confident the Irish pull this out than I otherwise was. This is not a young USC team. They're replacing 5 star guys with 5 star guys. The entire starting defense is almost all juniors or above. They have real talent on the DL. The secondary is loaded again.

On offense, 3 of their 5 starters on OL are 4th year or above, although there is the one true freshman starting. Their WRs are veteran. Their TEs were elite coming in and the starter is an upperclassmen.

Sam Darnold can pick apart the middle unlike anyone we've seen, and USC will come to play. Their OL is playing better than people pretend, and their defense is giving up only 127 rushing yards per game after week 1, which is top 20 in the country. They also create turnovers, 2 more than ND to date.

This is not the penalized USC team from a few years ago that got depleted due to depth -- they're ready to handle a few key injuries and have experienced players and/or elite young players step in.

I have the USC-ND week nerves.

I'm shitting my pants, you should be too.

Star rankings mean nothing once you step on a college field. For all that star power they have in their secondary they are 89th in the country in pass defense. For as good as Darnold is he's been a turnover machine this year and their offense is 74th in red zone production. I still believe the NC State game will be a tougher game.

He wasn't trying to pump them up, and he picked the Irish in OT. But when he went through a thorough breakdown of every player, they all sound awesome. He individually broke down each starter and the notable backups, it's pretty great writing and through analysis.

For instance, here's a breakdown of like the 6th WR on their team. I hope this isn't violating a rule here, but I'd like to promote his analysis:

" is a wide receiver who only has only 6 receptions this season. He is a former high school quarterback who is 3-5-0 passing. He has totaled 127 yards and 1 touchdown in his flanker reverse passing plays. The big thing to remember about #10 is that he's left handed and that a flanker reverse pass by him will give the Irish defense a left to right look on the play, the opposite look that defenses usually see in a game and in practice."

I both agree and disagree. They're starting a true frosh 3-star at one of their DT spots. You can't sing their praises and not recognize that even when healthier than they are now they:
1) don't have a defense performing as well as ND's
2) have an offense only performing about on par with ND's
3) they've played a lot of close games against inferior competition

Where I agree is that they have pure talent and athleticism at many spots (particularly on offense) that will be like nothing ND has seen to date. And when those players are clicking... like they were against Stanford... they are really fucking good. Borderline unstoppable. Given that this is a rivalry game with both squads ranked high, there is no reason to think they're going to shit the bed and beat themselves... this isn't WMU, WSU, etc. where they're going to show up sleepy and try to give the game away. ND is going to have to make plays to win.

This is where I am at.
It's going to be a slug fest which makes me worry about NC St. I pick ND in a close one, just hope we have enough left in the tank for the following weekend.

Both teams have pluses and minuses to this matchup. It's very similar to Jamie U making a point to say that USC loves to play man coverage, and they haven't played a running QB even remotely close to as dynamic as Wimbush is. If they lose contain on him and play man on the outside, look out, that's how big plays happen. It's going to be a competitive game that we'll have to win. Same as it was on Monday, before you read that gentleman's post. Though, it was a solid write-up, it doesn't change anything

We are not overmatched. So it will come down to execution.

I think that's understating things a bit. That guy's analysis is very detailed and (if accurate) naturally persuasive. But football games like this aren't won and lost on individual match-ups. All the stats indicate that we're better coached and are fielding more competent, cohesive units (especially on both lines). We are rightly favored in this game.

USC has lots of talent, and this is a night game against our rival, so of course we could lose. But all else being equal, ND is a better team right now, and we ought to come out ahead.
