This just came to me... when was the last time ND just rocked a legit opponent (Like Holtz used to do reg. or like how ND gets rocked in bowl games)... it's been a long *** time has it not??? I honestly can't even remember the last time something like that happened.

FSU v Clemson game this year made me think of this too. Its been awhile.

Wen I think of it, FSU 2002 is the most recent I can think of... that was Ty's first year guys...

you'd think purely by chance/law of averages ND would have caught some elite team off guard somewhere in the last ten years... Stanford this year would qualify imo... we shall see.

Miami? What level are you putting "legit" at? We embarrassed a Miami team that many thought was going to beat us.

I guess that's possible... I'm talking a name program that’s not a mess at the time... Miami would qualify for one of those for sure.

given notre dame's recruiting they should be 8 times deeper than byu and you don't hear byu whining about not being able to win because of injuries. who cares if you have more injuries, you should have 8 more skilled back ups.

you sound afraid and too eager to provide an excuse why a lowly team like byu might beat your mighty irish or whatever you are.

i hope byu beats the crap out of notre dame. notre dame's elitist attitude is nauseating to me.

for your info our injuries are

anae (starter offensive lineman)
reynolds (starting offensive lineman)
mathews (starging offensive lineman)
apo (quasi starting receiver)
mathews (receiver, backup)
falslev (punt returner, starting receir)
alisa (starting running back)

defense
kanuch (starting d tackle)
jorgenson (back up linebacker)
hadly (starting linebacker)
trammel (starting cornerback)
johnson (starting cornerback)
hanneman (2nd string cornerback)
peoples (dtackle)

no excuses hear. Beat the domers who are afraid they are going to lose to lowly byu!"

Whoever wrote this is accurate. I don't hear BYU whining about not being able to win due to injuries because I've never listened to a BYU fan in any form or fashion. Am I missing something by not tuning into Cougar Corner (which sounds like a place that 40 something y/o women get together to talk about college kids) or finding the Mormon radio station on Sirius/XM? Further, I don't want to listen to them complain about any of their 20 wives when someone should have told them that 1 was a more appropriate number. Why the F*** would I care about what they have to say? I just want to beat them down. Go Irish! That is all. See you on Sat in South Bend. Me. ---> South Bend.

Did we beat Oklahoma bad enough last year? They were a 10+ point favorite, #8 in the country, and we beat them in their house 31-13.

Man... it's fun thinking back on 2012... that was some good stuff.

I was thinking of that one too, but that game was close until like the last couple minutes.

OU was the best program win in years, but it's not what I'm looking for, that was very much in doubt with minutes left... I'm talking about a game that ND just grinds the other side down and embarrasses them kind of thing... OU wasn't embarrassed in that game... correct? Miami was definately closer to what i ment...

I think in order to get those kind of demoralizing wins you need to start fast and execute consistently on offense. On defense you need to play with a ferocity and intensity that produces solid tackling, generates turnovers, and demoralizing hits.

On both sides of the ball, it requires leadership/accountability to force everyone to keep their foot on the gas....when was the last team that had that?

Actually I think you are right... I remember that one having that feel to it... though how good was PSU that year??

OU and Utah definately do not cut it (This may be because I seem extremely bad as getting my mind around my meaning here... think completely controlling and dominating a top team).

PSU was highly ranked going into that game but then ended up going 8-4 if I remember correctly. At the time though it certainly have that feel to it.

Haha like I said my unhealthy obsession started at a young age. Helps that I went to the game with my PSU alum cousins too. I could probably still recite over half the starters on that team.

Only reason I remember the game so much is because it was my first ND game ever. They were 19th before we played them and the media was predicting an upset. We dominated them--final score did not give us enough credit.

Golson. Trust me if he wasn't kicked out we have a BCS team. With Tommy we had 4 ints to much to finish as strong as we would have. Having Golson at QB would have had this team with at least 2 touchdowns per game.
Again Tommy is my guy, really been on this yr. I can say now he knows how to throw a fade like no other. I think Tommy can lead this team to wins against both Stanford,Byu.

Unless Golson had been Manning-esque this year, there is no way the team could overcome all of the defensive liabilities, and injuries.

False. All he would have had to do was be responsible with the ball and at least two of these losses would have had totally different complexions.

True. If Tommy could have thrown 1 less against Michigan, 2 (one not his fault) vs OU, and the worst throw all yr against Pitt in the endzone.

Now if our defense had a few more stops the same story. Really this is all on a qb to take the team and make the right reads. From what I've seen from Tommy this yr he has really stepped his game up. Most of our games he has been amazing.

Tommy has stepped up this year and overall played the best football of his career. But it's hard to say he was "amazing" against Michigan or Oklahoma or Pittsburgh or Michigan State or USC (he was playing well until he got hurt, though). That's the majority of our games.
I'm not a Tommy hater at all, and I don't think we're a particularly good team. But I do believe if we have Golson at QB we're 9-1 and sitting in the Top Ten (We still lose to Michigan. That was more on the defense.) Likely finish 10-2 and make a BCS bowl.
Oh well...

I'll go as far as saying you can't really make the comparison because the offense is so different with EG

...but all the TR needed to do is play consistently and a couple outcomes are different, IMHO.

Weather looks like 40% chance of snow/rain with 22 mph winds. Crazy really don't want to drive in those conditions. Anyone know how the roads get when it snows in the bend?
