Ouch...

The Irish want to compete for the national title every year. They insist on doing it with academics, but they’re driven to win championships, period. And they won’t hesitate to schedule a home game in your hometown, put their logo on your grass, go into your house, steal your girlfriend and your Netflix password, drink your beer and chill on your couch.

The fact that the Eagles agreed to this arrangement just proves why so many people in Boston have so little respect for their program. You can’t respect people who don’t respect themselves.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought when I saw the field, "I'm sure BC's bulletin board will have a field day with this." Hopefully we come out and stomp them.

Because it is the TD move commonly used by Eagles players, he said he was an Eagles fan before the game and he/BK both said that is why he did it. That's not enough?

Who in the hell has ever done an Owl impression by flapping their arms?

You also have zero proof of the "lying" you are accusing BK of doing.

I am pretty sure Kizer saw an Angel...

Yea, we don't really need to give them more ammo. Hopefully we come out more inspired than we did against Temple.

Does anyone recall when the SS merch goes on crazy sale? Is it right after the game, after the season, next year?

Condolences to the Flutie Family.

How fortunate he was to see their love of more than half a century.

How devastating to lose them both on the same day.

Savor the memories.

I'm calling it. ND in a rout. I changed my mind from my previous predictions. We're going to come out with all the swagger in the world and run it up.

People are making such a big deal about the freaking end zones. To me, it is much more difficult for ND to travel to a "home" game in the opponent's back yard than it is to see your opponent's name painted on the field.

It's not "hard" seeing your opponent's name in the endzones. I don't know what's harder though - traveling to a "home" game or playing in a stadium a few minutes down the road with 80% of the other team's fans. My guess is being outnumbered in the stands is "harder".

But now that this game is here, and Bostonians are pretending to care only because of the endzones, the idea that ND would schedule a home game in BC's backyard is so fucked up. It's diabolical. I love it.

Right, but if the game was just played in South Bend you'd have even more than 80% Irish fans. I just feel like ND did BC a favor and they're whining about it, as BC does. And Bostonians don't really care; ND is probably more popular here than BC. They're talking about it, but only because it gives them a reason to crap on BC. Nobody likes them.

I see Boston as a "Pro Town" and BC has given them little to get excited about recently.

Pretty much. This is essentially Temple in reverse. Temple had the city believing in it and was ready for, by far, the biggest game in it's school's history. BC is just bitter because we're in their city, where our fans already outnumber there's anyway.

I hear you. ND did do them a favor by scheduling a "home" game in their backyard rather than South Bend.

But, I have to wonder if they'll be regretting this decision (if they had any say in it, which I assume they did) by late Saturday night. ND is going to come into their city, pack an iconic stadium with a decidedly pro ND crowd, and, hopefully, embarrass them on the field. That's not a good look for BC.

Boston sold Ruth, lost Leahy to ND, Bucky Dent, etc, etc, etc, traded Esposito to the Rangers, Len Bias, Hobson, and ND's name painted in the end zone of a stadium in which BC chooses NOT to hold home games the lowest point in history?

This tool's great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was undoubtedly rooting for the lobsterbacks at Concord.

First of all, my condolences to the Flutie family. Secondly, I expect us to win decively. I think our defense plays well and our offense comes up with enough key plays. I'm thinking 37-14 or 42-7. We should be OK with fans. I bet fifty percent or more are rooting for ND.

I'm not objecting at all, don't get me wrong. I just think it's silly to have Kelly frame it up as "Kizer was really excited to play in the Eagles stadium." It was taunting, simple as that. Call it what it is.

Of course I was kidding, bud!

But you are on to something here. ----- Really.

I have not said much about this before, partly because it is hard to describe, accurately, and of course none of us really know what's going on in someone else's mind.

Based on first hand observation, and the testimony of a dozen or more people that know DK, what we have here is a quarterback with a linebacker's attitude (think Jack Lambert, Laurence Taylor, Dick Butkus-ish), or maybe defensive back-like (think Ghetto-Jack Tatum-ish.)

Just to paint as clear of a picture as I can, DeShone is a great guy on and off the field. He is what a lot of people would call an old soul; and he is deeply spiritual, full of faith. But, to say the kid is a warrior on the field is an understatement. He is indomitable, and a force of nature. Kind of like water. If you try to stop it, it builds up enough pressure to make its way, eventually, you cannot stop it; if it wants to be there, it gets there. Only question is how long it takes and how much damage it does.

I want to be very careful about expressing this, in this world of out of control sociopathic sports celebrity. But DK is more like a guy I used to know that was a hell of a street fighter. I remember hearing someone not accustom to the nuances of the English language that described him, "He's the kind of guy you have to step on his neck pretty damned hard to stop him. And he is pretty damned big, and really doesn't like anyone trying to step on his neck. People should think twice before they fuck with him, 'cause if the did, they'd just go home and have a drink."

DK was like that from the time I first saw him when he was 14. My oldest son (who went to Central) and I would laugh, at how much DK's attitude was like my boy's. The only thing is that DK was too damned skinny in high school! They used to say "6'2-175", "6'4-195," but I think that was pure hyperbole listing his weight that high.

The dude was skinny, which helped him at basketball and baseball. Not any more. Like I said from the beginning, his foot speed was deceptive, so is his strength, and his hand speed. (PS, we haven't seen the best of his arm yet, either!)

So if you have watched DK closely this year, you have seen a couple of times where he heard something he didn't like or got ridden a little too hard out of bounds, and he came up ready to go. That is DK. And not many should want to go with him. He really is tough and capable.

So getting back to Flap-gate in Philly : It really was the Eagles thing. However, his gaze being transfixed on good ol' number 8, when he did it, and the 'language' he used to return the 'compliment' from Matakevich were certainly indictable offenses. All things being equal, they were a lot more jovial than the play Kizer lowered the boom on Tyler. I think it was a play or two before Kizer's first running touchdown. Go back and look. He delivers a hell of a blow when Matakevich gets a little off balance trying to get outside and ahead of Kizer to make the play.

In a couple games you can watch Kizer get into conflict with opponents, though it is not as obvious as Flap-gate.

But you are right, it isn't a bad thing that ND's quarterback has the attitude of a badass! How long has it been? Tony Rice? Joe Theisman?

Condolances to the Flutie family. I will say, they seemed to have lived a good life, 56 years of marriage, good family. I'd say most people who have been married for that long would probably want to "go out" together. My parents have been married for 45 years and I think it would be very difficult for one to live without the other at this point. RIP.

You always state things so well! Reps, sir!

I was just thinking when watching the news report, and with what I remember of the family from past media exposure; how lucky the four Flutie kids were to grow up in a household with that kind of love!

And how lucky his mom and dad were to have found each other, and had so many years together!

I don't presume to know how it is for anyone else, but one of my parents got ill and died (as quite a surprise) in about 72 hours, and the other lingered after a precipitous decline. It was more of a shock, but easier to deal with the more sudden death. I hope that this is true for the family.

Though the quickness is an incomprehensible shock, from my experience, you go from good memories and loving, to eternity without much room for consternation, or dissipating the feelings of love, present. I hope the family ultimately sees this as a gift.

It's not really about the endzones, that's just the easy thing to talk about since it's akin to a gang tag and that's the analogy most people are using.
