The ESPN team recruiting rankings are not point based. Our scouts look at needs and talent to formulate their own opinion.
Reason #17932549276429 why ESPN is a joke. It's the equivalent of Irish Envy folks making completely subjective recruit rankings based on what we feel like and lackadaisical highlight watching. Then we give more points to any kid that plays in our All-American game.. I mean... visits Notre Dame.... and then we just use the "eyeball" method and rank up the teams based on perceived talent and our ill-informed understanding of the "needs" of 120 different teams combined with what we perceive the recruit's college position to be.
So ridiculous.
In other words, we fake it and make it up (by utilizing less and less than significant resources into) all the while hoping it brings in more ads, more clicks, and more money.

@KippLAdams @JNewbergESPN Correct. Multiple factors. It would take hours to list how flawed point systems are.
Okay, So I'm pretty sure we had 18 commits a few days ago and now we have 17. I don't follow recruiting too much and just wondered who decommited?

You're that pissed about an assistant coaching hire, yet you don't know this?!?
Like I said, I just don't pay any attention to recruiting too much.
This is painfully apparent
Luginbill responded to that tweet with the following:
Maddening. He has the gall to criticize services that use a real methodology to determine class rank, while his pathetic organization just makes stuff up according to gut feelings, eye ball tests, and whoever played in their all-star game.
Todd Gurley to UGA moves them up to #10.
we are now #11 and fading...
We're complaining about one or two 4/5-star guys slipping out of our grasp even though we still have a very solid class. Just check out the link to remember how bad it was...

I'd love to have someone by the name of Junior Jabble play for us now.
Number 6 .03 points behind pOSU with 3 less commits and we know who is dragging down that ranking.

Ha!! If we had a group of kids rated this low right now, there would be a meltdown in South Bend.
I believe 247 only counts your top 17 commits so as soon as we grab another we will jump more. That is why we jumped to #3 briefly when we landed Shumate.
Not quite, they actually just use a Gaussian formula that devalues the rating of your bottom end recruits as you add more and more.... it's smart and something that appeals to the engineer in me because you still get points for every recruit but teams with bloated classes get diminishing returns.
Thanks, I don't why but the number 17 was just sticking out to me for some reason...
Interesting story -- Jr Jabbie stole the modular furniture from a kid's dorm room before they came to campus (in '06 only freshmen got it). The freshmen didn't know until like 8 months later and asked FT, who was none too happy about it, and JJ got kicked out of Stanford Hall... Good times.
Anyway, loving the class. I do miss Darby though, I've been telling my friends about him for months. Come back, Nitro!
